    Public

remember me and my mate was doing some work for the council in the woods over a footpath. we conned it off, put barrier tape round, i was on the ground, highly visible, keeping an eye on my mate as well as around me, even though their was another footpath 10ft that goes around where we was working which was safe enough for the public to use, it amazed me how many people just seemed to ignore, tree cutting signs, me, cones, barrier tape, truck parked in the middle of the path, flashing light going, hazards on, you would think you would be seen... BUT NOPE! people tried to keep coming through and under the barrier tape! AMAZING!

  5. Just thought id ask the question... you have been with the same company for 3 years, you are reliable, very little time off through the year, decent local knowledge of locations, you can drive a tipper and tow, you get on in all weathers, basically, how much would you pay a day rate, employed for someone like this? Qualifications... basic first aid at work nptc 30,31,36&38 and will be doing cs39 this year. thanks guys
  6. sorry to hear mate... if ya need a hand! ----)
  7. with you all the way paul
  8. tar mate, gives me a little idea to go on. thanks for your help
  9. welcome to the forum! thats the best start mate.. try and get in with a local arb firm afterwards as well and get to know the industry. You will soon get to know the do's and dont's! but a great bit of advice, when your a groundie, just support your climber as and when, your his eyes and ears, and dont spend all day on your mobile phone whilst at work. Wont win many fans that way... work hard and be safe and accept to work in all weathers!
  10. hi guys, if this has been asked befor i appologise, but i would like to ask any self-employed people, how much do you pay in National insurance and tax? is it every 25p in every pound you earn? { trying to work out my day rate bring home} like i say ive heard lots of different versions at hmrc website is a little confusing! thanks guys
  11. Did my cs 38 at B.T.S. two weeks ago, all round brilliant, got my cs 39 tomorrow! great bunch of guys, and usually go ahead with any course regardless of how low numbers can be on attendance.
  12. Hi guys... Just testing the water a bit to see if its worth going self employed or just staying employed for now.. I am 28, nearly 29, married with some years experience now, with many aspects of tree surgery and i have references available should anybody wish to see. Basically i have the following N.P.T.C. Units: CS 30 - 31A & 31B, 36 & 38. Am doing my CS39 at B.T.S. Suffolk next week. {9th May} i have been in and out of arb since 2003, but have been back in arb full time since 2008. I work for a small arb company in Norfolk, got a full clean driving licence, inc able to tow, and i have BASIC FIRST AID at work certificate too. i have my own saw { 038 } but i do not currentley have my own P.P.E. but am setting up to do so. If i may be of assistance to anyone how ever big or small a job may be, be great to hear from you.
  13. im kinda thinking along the same lines as you treetop1, but agree with skyhuck, very hard at the moment, i just got some simple buisness cards made up, for friends and family, that spread kinda well, but word of mouth is the best way and its free! but keep at it if you really want it mate. Im saving hard for my own gear, not easy atall at the moment, but my attitude is.. Rome wasnt built in a day... best of luck mate.
  14. just let your work do the talking mate and that will show.

  17. tar mate...long story short, got 2 connifer trees to take 10ft out of each, but the customer cant really see the height that would be removed, i dont mind quoting for the job but get the feeling she will want more here and their even when i have taken 10ft out....
