  1. We need a dictionary of crud combination words! We could get like IT and nobody outside out industry the would understand us. We could refer to Crustomers - ex customers who gave us problems. Or Thumbags - Individuals who misunderstand ownership issues. No doubt the list id endless.
  2. I torque mine to 110 ft/lbs. Thats what my manual says to do.
  3. So impressive - not just how long the top took to fall but how it fell into the darkness of oblivion. Was there acrually any ground down there at all? It must take quite a throw with the rope in a monkeys fist to get into some of them trees.

    Bottled it!

Huck, I agree 99% with that 'if it stood up...' statement. I've often gone up a dubious tree reminding myself of it. BUT - If it were true trees would never fall over. Maybe time for a re-think

Who pays your wages when you are dead?
  6. That's a valid view but its strange how so many people want to kill Gypsies every time any piece of kit is stolen. In both cases there has been a transgression of the law and, I suspect taking revenge on gypsies would lead to a lot more 'looking over the shoulder' than reporting the OPs incident. Of course, if it was gypsies who did the work.... your screwed. I guess we all draw the line in a different place.

    Bottled it!

That's exactly it! You made sure there will be other days. Someone once siad to me 'Don't make today your last day'

    Bottled it!

I'd say the bottom line is... By not climbing it in those conditions the outcome (your safety) is certain. Had you climbed it the outcome was very UNcertain. We need to know what happened next! Funny how their lack of appropriate kit led them to expect you to take a risk.

    Bottled it!

I agree with you. Was a risk assessment carried out? If they did not do one then that says a lot. We all moan about H&S but in cases like this it should be right on your side. It stops people being put at risk as a result of their/someones's work. Well done. Keep us posted on what happened after.
  10. I feel such a failure now! I auditioned to sing for them (and failed). I was in the same class as their drummer (Adrian Lillywhite) - whos brother is Steve the producer of many quo albums -aaah if only I had had any talent.....
  11. Weight distribution over the axles?? IIRC many have warned that a double cab puts more of the load over the back axle, so even if you are under 3.5t gross, you can be over on the rear axle. This can lead to much sadness for the driver. On top of that the double cab (usually with a longer chassis) weighs a fair bit more than a single cab witha tool box behind -QED less payload anyway.
  12. Does it say Frost or Forst ?
  13. If I openly had such low regard for my competitors I wouldn't have the nerve to subscribe to a forum where I could be perceived as benfitting from the knowlwdge/opinions of exactly those people. Still, hiding behind an alias and remaining geographically anonymous does make it easier.
  14. If, they have made the application themselves (with no input from a tree professional) and are subsequently getting quotes - fair enough. If not, I'll console myself with the fact that I can happily do without the sort of customer who is persuaded by undercutting after they have agreed a price. I am surprised at how many 'opportunists' there are on here though.
  15. I admire your determination - I'll say no more.
  16. That reeks of jippo to me. Do you check if the applicant is a tree company? I tell my customer at quote time that the TPO stuff is free if I do the work. If not it's a £60 - £150 charge depending on meetings with TO etc. On the two occasions customers have 'changed their minds' they have paid the TPO fee.
  17. In town, most garden gates are 2'6'' - or 29 inches allowing for the jams. Remember any sort of tight turn or waste pipe down the side of the house can cause access issues. I have an RG13 (13hp) which is 25 inches wide. We have carried it into gardens where access is really tight - so very good for that, just a PITA as it's so slow and clogs up with mud. My other one is a predator 450 - 29 inches wide so fits through most gates, but not all. It is 25hp so just works on through mud without slowing. I would rather use the 450 and maybe remove the wheels to get in. The RG13 's wheels are two piece so if you take them off they fly apart and you have to re-inflate them after you put them back on. The 450s are 'proper' wheels. Remember, a big macho machine is faster (if it will get in there) but absolutely useless if it will not. There is a tracked predator which is narrow but is still limited on tight turns. Have a look on every job you do and see just how many gates are what width.

    Sod's law.

I guess I've never had flu - from the descriptions above my sneezes and runny noses were for pussy cats only. I did have a sore throat resulting from a surgeon using a cheese grater to fit a breathing tube during an operation. Absolute agony every time I swallowed. I was taken to A & E several times as I had overdone the aspirins and ibuprofen. Like people said above - you can see why people top themselves to get out of pain.
  19. I took redundancy from an IT job at 46 - never looked back. I was a keen triathlete so fitness wasn't an issue. Like many have said - the only obstacle is attitude. Remember - You can if..... rather than you can't because... Doo it! You'll be knackered, but a really good knackered.

    Jokes???

How do we know Adolf Hitler was a rubbish golfer? He spent the last 6 weeks of his life in a bunker.
  21. Spoons, Lewis, Ant, Callum - are you all paying attention? I may be a senile old git with the political inclination of Adolf Hitler but even I cant believe someone would treat an 'employee' based on the responses from a forum.
  22. Bleedin eck - Ive been a bit slow there.
  23. Oooh what a pain in the arsenal. I guess you can only make it as secure as possible to deter the 'little reprobates'. Good luck
  24. Now they KNOW youve got something worth 'having'
  25. So when are Jonesie, Honey Bros, Gustharts etc conna do us a Black Friday? That would lead to a real bun fight.
