  1. Very good! What have you been smoking?
  2. Commercial can be silly, mostly no problem and a decent amount of work and they are happy to pay 'appropriate' rates. I had a large letting agent in Worthing write to tell me they were changing their terms. From now on payment at the end of the month after.... AND they would only pay if the landlord had sufficient funds. They said it was possible for them to agree a quote when there may be insufficient funds. I told them where they could file their new terms. Tons of work with other agents so not my problem. Allow for everything that has an impact on the job and price accordingly.
  3. That sounds like an awesome blow job Macca
  4. Invest in new kit from reliable suppliers (not eBay) Sell your old stuff on eBay. Every day there are cruddy bits of kit going for stupid money, don't moan about it on this forum, use it to recover decent bucks. Never reduce your quote for a cash job - why should your overheads be less just because some Audi driving wide boy fancies a haggle.
  5. Boo Hiss - I've seen that one before, come on Silky you can do better than that!
  6. Agreed - as shown on recent threads, wide variety of views, entertaining. Silky, are you going for an avatar world record? I recon every time you post you change it - keeps it interesting though. Maybe each year there should be a vote for thread of the season, the one with the most deleted comments, most comments, best piccies, etc... It's a good place to come and just chill out, learn or offer advice/opinions.
  7. Ask your accountant? They should be able to add it in, they are only at draft stage after all. I guess once you sign off the draft the accountant will then submit the figures to IR
  8. Thankd for the replies, I am a tight-arse so will wait, I guess some dealers will give it a go and try to sell whatever they can.
  9. I've noticed on some web sites that Echo sell a Tuning screwdriver which cost about £50! What is it? and do you NEED if if you run an echo saw? If you do need it it makes the saws a bit less competitively priced. Only asking cos I'm thinking of getting a 360 at some point.
  10. One question about the echo, what's the 'tuning screwdriver' that costs about £50 ? Is it some special tool that you need, and why so expensive?
  11. Coletti - did you get the 350 or the 360?
  12. I'm sure there are plenty who would agree it is a hornbeam.
  13. It sounds like the land owner ia spinning a yarn and trying to get you to do it cheap.... If the situation is making you feel uneasy then my advice is to walk away from it - unless you REALLY need the work or the landowner is somehow able to 'lean' on you. Don't get yourself bullied.
  14. Fair do's I see what you mean. If you found the van ideal for your purposes - maybe worth finding another. If your license is a recent one the towing limits might preclude the option of a decent sized trailer. There are guys on here who can give you the run down on all the weights and so on better than I could (My license was issued in the Jurassic era).
  15. That's a fair deal of value to 'let go' to avoid an insurance hit. Might be worth a chat with a local Insurance broker to discuss possible amounts - BEFORE you decide. Have you not notified your insurer of the theft yet? The damage to the hospital will need to be paid for somehow anyway... Maybe not worth repairing the van (it may be a write off) but surely you'll have to tell the insurers something?
  16. I wondered when that would come up. When my brother in law was killed aged 21 the road was dreadful (potholes, recent previous deaths on same section). We saw no mileage in sueing the arse of the LA or the other driver. We were devastated but did not call the ambulance chasers - does that answer your question? And don't moan when someone chases you for compensation when one of their children gets hurt playing in your unsafe garden. Good luck, you are entitled to go about YOUR business however you wish. So am I - Freedom of speech!
  17. Must there always be blame? If the initial investigations were inconclusive .... Nobody doubts the awful result but there have been numerous threads bemoaning the litigative society which could lead to a lot of trees being removed because they 'could' pose a danger. There now seems to be no such thing as an accident.
  18. Tell the customer they are also responsible for tidying the house (unless they are happy to pay professional tree surgery rates for the cleaning) - I've never has a customer ask me to tidy in the house - result. Just manage their expectations and theres no surprise.
  19. I don't remember the last time I had half a day spare but if I do I want to either relax or do a decent half day's work and not rummage around a pile of sticks to complete a job that some half-arse has left incomplete. I don't think that is a matter of work ethics - it's life priorities (my choice). If I find myself with no work or money I would, of course, apply a different set of criteria, but that's not the case so my view is still 'no will do'.
  20. Get there, set up, chip, tidy up, travel to tip site, (pay for tipping?) Wear and tear on chipper blades (40 mins of xx hrs), diesel. Plus - during that time you CAN'T be doing another job which might be better paid. Remember the threads about tree guys not earning enough???
  21. If our main purpose is procreation of the species then why are some not inclined to behave in a manner which would facilitate this? Illogical, captain. Are there gay trees?
  22. Lots, mostly browsing. Interesting to see if Steve can do leage table of time logged in by user-id. Who would be the Chelsea/Man City and who is the Hartlepool?
  23. Anothe vote for 'I don't chip other peoples stuff.' From experience the 'customer' thinks all the hard work has been done so its just a case of 'the last bit of the job'. I can earn a lot more per hour doing a full job for someone so why waste my time and equipment filling in for some knob who can't do a full job. I would have to be desperate for work to even contemplate it.
  24. I'm actually training him up to become a Judas squirrel. Then when he leads them all into the garden for a feast....... banzai!
