  1. I found this fungi/fruiting body on my own mature apple tree in my garden and am struggling to identify what it is. Could anyone help me ID it? Cheers, James.
  2. Cheers for the replies guys, might give banshee a go see what thats like.
  3. Anyone know of a good tv series thats got a decent bit of action in it? I've watched and enjoyed both black sails and the vikings so i'm after something similar to those to watch. I find stuff on the regular channels is pretty rubbish atm (don't have sky!)
  4. That might mean I'm an extra small in the pfanners I guess then.
  5. I'm thinking about changing from my old, tired Hiflex trousers to a pair of these. My local place doesn't stock them so i'm not sure about sizings, I'm a small in the hiflex's does anyone have an idea of what size i would be in the pfanners? Its either pfanners or i have heard good things about sip trousers, i find hiflex's rip a bit too easily ime. Cheers guys!
  6. Interesting responses thanks guys, looks like it's down to how quick the customer wants the job done in the end! Past the tree today and there are still quite a few leaves on it which is surprising it also looks like it has been reduced before at some stage.
  7. Surely this would apply to all trees though?
  8. cheers for the replies guys, i did think spring was a bad idea. I suppose it may be worth waiting until Jan/Feb then? I'll speak to the customer and see if their willing to wait. Out of interest how many of you guys leave pruning of particular trees to a certain time of the year?
  9. I've got to reduce a horse chestnut for a regular customer of mine and just wandered about the best time to do this? Will now be OK, tbh honest there are very few horse chestnuts round my way and the ones that I've seen are suffering from leaf minor. So i thought i'd see if there was a best time to prune them before diving in. cheers guys!
  10. That is a lovely gate, I'm thinking about trying to make a door in a similar style, do you have any pictures of it being made at all? And what was your cutting list for the timber you used? Also where did you get the hinges and latch? they look to be made when and high quality.
  11. Thanks for your help, I won't be planing loads of big 6x6 posts tbh, just the odd half a dozen every now and then. It will mostly be used for planing boards etc for things like shelves, cupboards etc etc. The only problem with going for a bigger machine is it will take up more room in the workshop which isn't ideal. Is there another machine similar to the baos that doesn't have two motors? as it would be nice if i had to in the future to be able to run it off a standard plug. I have been looking at sedgewicks cp/mp machines as well.
  12. How are these jointed together? been thinking about making something similar myself.
  13. Ah ok good thinking osmo top oil would be safer bet then? I presume there are no issues with that? Not sure what osmo is made from..
  14. Ok so osmo top oil seems my best bet? I know you said not to use 'top' oils but I presume they just call it that for done reason as you sat it cures and doesn't leave marks? Is ting oil ok to use on oak someone told me you shouldn't use it on oak????
  15. So as the title says I'm making a chopping board and some serving boards/plates out of oak and just wandered what oil or polish I should use that is food friendly and seals the wood? Cheers, James
  16. Got a link to the sedgwicks? Can't find them!
  17. yeah thats one i have been looking at tbh , shame its a bit too far away for me to go and have a look at it. Is the tersa system a straight swap for the original blades?
  18. Ok i will check them out. Out of interest what would you call silly money for a bao in good condition?
  19. Interesting, is there a similar model of Sedgwick to the wadkin bao then?
  20. That would be great send me a pm please!
  21. So I've been looking at planer thicknessers for sometime now and stumbled across these. Has anyone got any experience of these machines? I've been looking at metabo hc260's as well and I'm not sure they will stand up to planing 6inch square oak posts like the wadkin would. That's the main reason I'm now looking into second hand all cast machines. Any Advice would be great!
  22. Just read through your thread, makes me want to get milling again. I must invest in a winch looks like it makes things much easier. I just have a few questions for you if you don't mind. Firstly what bar and chain combo are you using and do you sharpen by hand or with a graneberg sharpener? I notice you get your boards super smooth! Also do what do you make your stickers from? or do you buy them? Cheers for the videos, very helpful! James.
  23. Interesting thread, I've been thinking about getting a metabo for some time now but uncertain it will do what i want tbh. So i've started looking on ebay, the scheppachs look decent and go quite cheep but its finding one local enough to me so i can look at it first. Also do you have to move the tables around to use the thicknesser on the scheppachs?
  24. Cheers for the help, will look into them!
  25. So I've got to replant someone's border with new shrubs all must be around four foot tall plus. I've got a good idea of what I'm going to plant things like pittosporum, choysia etc etc but I need to find a good supplier. So does anyone know of a good plant supplier in the south east or even one who could deliver? Cheers in advance!
