  1. Has anyone had any experience with using treesurgeoninsurance? thinking about getting my personal accident cover with them and wondered if anyone had dealt with them before or had any experience with using them? cheers.
  2. I have a small crab apple tree to prune (only about 18foot tall max) and a small rowan tree to prune at one site. I usually prune apple trees in the winter for fruit, but as the customer is not worried about fruit will it be ok to go ahead and do it this time of year? The rowan is on the same job and would prefer to do them both together than have to go back and do the apple tree in the winter. I havn't pruned many rowan trees, i was told they don't like any hard pruning? Is this correct?
  3. if i had a local forge!...
  4. Does anyone know where tyo get one of these? I've been thinking about getting one to put my logo on some of my woodwork...
  5. I'd definitely be interested in a video. What model have you got? I have a wildflower meadow to maintain this season, do you think it would cope with a years growth of that?
  6. Are these actually any good?? what about in foot long grass and thicker plants like nettles, docks etc
  7. The larger of the two stems does have a bit of rot but doesn't have many unions. Although there are a few burrs on it
  8. I've got one pretty large oak butt to mill and two other smaller ones and just wanted a bit of advice as what people would say is the best way to mill them. I.e quarter sawn, through and through maybe some dimensional timber like posts an rails? I don't have a set use for the wood, so I just want to get the best out of what I have if you know what I mean...l
  9. ??? I'm on about the width of the alaskan? I use a ladder thats plenty long enough for the first cut...
  10. I need to extend the rails on my Alaskan as I have some very Large Oak butts to mill. I'm just wondering what my best options are to do this? Is it to buy the upgrade kit from Rob D? I'm not 100% sure what this includes and whether or not it will allow me to extend my current mill as well as upgrade with the new fittings etc. Or do i go down the route of buying a new mill altogether? maybe a panther setup, I am looking to buy a winch kit as well so the upgrade kit plus a winch will already come it 220 + VAT. I could then sell the mk111 mill if anyone is interested in it on here? Its not had much use.... What are peoples thoughts?
  11. Got broken into wednesday last week. Took all my small equipment. Hedgecutters, Strimmers, Blowers etc etc 4kplus gone. Broke into main workshop then into container. Both locked and secured (well so I thought.....) Gutted! Be aware!
  12. Looks good. What router bit do you use? And what's the attachment and bars you've got on the router? Havn't seen that before...
  13. Unfortunately the only guys i know don't have a big enough planer or one of those big drum sanders...
  14. Best not to cut it if you can in my opinion. Where in the country are you. Basingstoke, Hampshire.
  15. A good electric planer, plenty of sanding and lots of patients. It can be done, just takes time. I'm not saying that you'll get it perfect but it'll be close enough. I thought about a decent belt sander?
  16. Yes it is. Small patch of sapwood in front middle gives it away. Hard to grain match burry wood. Lovely table though Ah yes I see it now! Didn't look that closely before! I presume it's easier to join thicker boards? My board is 2foot wide but only an inch thick, as I'm just doing this as a hobby will it be harder to join it back together if I cut in half to be planed?
  17. Shouldn't speak for him but that top is made of 3 boards so wouldn't need a huge planer. Just a careful glue up and some sanding. The burr oak top in his picture is three boards?
  18. This looks awesome! Going to try and make a coffee table myself in the next couple of weeks. How did you get the top nice and smooth/flat? I haven't got access to a large planer/thicknesser. Cheers, James.
  19. Nice boards what do you treat it with before stacking?
  20. I have had problems with my feet getting cold for all my life and have always suffered from chillblains on a regular basis that are pretty bad and painful. So i'm just wondering if anyone could recommend some decent socks and boots that are warm? I currently just wear meindl airstreams and a pair of good quality thick socks but i still suffer.. Any advice would be most appreciated! Cheers, james.
  21. Where can i get hold of a generic risk assessment? had a look on the aa website and it seems you have to be a member to access their downloads?
  22. Some lovely stuff there mate, where abouts in the south east are you?
  23. Looks good! Is the logosol a lot more productive than an alaskan? Whats the cost of the logosol? I presume the logosol couldn't handle bigger rings like the one your 550/560 is leaning against in your last picture?
  24. I saw this thread a while back and I am going to be in a similar situation next autumn. (I know it's a year away but like to make contacts etc early on)... The meadow is 1/4 of an acre and access is reasonable. The spec is to cut and collect. Ideally a scythe type machine but I guess a rotary would not brake up the flowers too much so most of it can still be collected? The meadow is near Warminster, Wiltshire if anyone is interested?
  25. Interesting what sort of moisture can you get the wood down to?
