  1. Yeah I've seen the insulated ones but they are a lot dearer so i'm not sure its worth it. The only work around powerlines i do would be domestic stuff i.e the lines that are insulted anyway, you know the ones that feed your house...
  2. I've actually got a set of those that extend to around 14ftish put the pruner head doesn't seem man enough for some jobs and at full extension they have a lot of flex in them. Just wanted something a bit more heavy duty tbh
  3. Then no their not! just general domestic arb work.
  4. No, I tend to stear clear of working near the poles with the three uninsulated wires on them. 33kv ones i think they're called, they the ones you mean? Obviously the standard insulted ones that feed your house you can't help but come across in domestic arb work...
  5. Interesting just had a look at the aus kit frjones do, seems a fair bit more expensive than the jameson ones, also the bahco pruner head does not seem quite as good as the heavy duty, double pulley one jameson do. Where did you get yours from? would probably just prefer to buy 4 poles and a pruner head to start with. http://www.skylandequipment.com/aus-utility-firbreglass-pole-pruning-set.html
  6. I'm thinking of going for a jameson heavy duty double pulley pruner head with four six foot poles. Has anyone used these before or is there a better option? Are the jameson tested for powerline use? These are the ones i'm thinking of going for: http://www.skylandequipment.com/jameson-hollow-extension-pole.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyNPfkK251gIVTLvtCh1npQqrEAQYASABEgLJuvD_BwE I'm not to worried about having a saw head but will probably go for one later on, could you put a silky blade on the jameson poles? Cheers, James.

    scythe

I've got to mow a wildflower meadow at the end of the month and have been looking into powered scythes. Has anyone had any experience using one of these or could recommend one if i wanted to look into buying one? Cheers.
  8. Could anyone recommend me a decent pole pruner, the heavier duty ones where you connect the rods together? I keep getting the odd job where can you just nip of this bit of that other tree and a pole pruner would be ideal as most of the time its nothing over two inches. I know there are aus poles, and samson but what are the differences? Cheers, James.
  9. Cheers where did you pick yours up from? looks very tidy and a good price, what size timber does it take?
  10. I was thinking along those lines but my budget is about 750 max so its trying to find a decent machine for that sort of money within a good distance so delivery/picking it up isn't a pain
  11. Could anyone recommend me a reasonable planer thicknesser for finishing my milled boards? I've been looking at the metabo hc260 and dewalt one. Is there any others i should take a look at? I've been looking at some second hand cast iron ones on the bay but shipping etc is always a bit of a pain to get them back to my place. Cheers, James.

    Small pro saw

Thanks what fuel are you using in the 550? Nice to know you go for the 550 over the 560. What bars are you running?

    Small pro saw

Thanks for all the replies guys, just been to have a look at the 261 and 550 in my local store. I like the way the husqvarna handles over the stihl so am leaning towards the husqvarna. If I go that way what fuel do you guys use in the husqvarna? All my other saws are stihl and I use stihl super 2 stroke oil (the green stuff!) would it be alright to use this or do I need something different? Cheers, James.

    Small pro saw

Interesting, how long you been using one? I'm leaning towards the 550 over 560 purely just so its a bit lighter probs leave a 15" bar on it as well.

    Small pro saw

    Small pro saw

Which small pro saw is the best to go for? Around the 50cc range I was thinking either a 261 or 550 on a 13 or 15" bar. My other saws are stihl so probably will stick with them but heard the 261 has had a few problems when they first came Out with needle bearings, is this still the case with the new ones? I'm tempted By the 550 because of this but they don't seem to last long with the people I know who have them. Any thoughts/experiences or recommendations would Be great!
  17. Thanks for the pics, whats the weight like with the ap300 battery? thats the longest lasting one i believe..
  18. Yeah it's a shame the weight is as much as it is, I thought about using the shorter life batteries as it would make it lighter. It's good to know they last a while though. I suppose you may end up saving money as you don't have to use two stroke all the time. I hadn't thought about using a combi with the extension but they are 4mix engines which I have had a few problems with before...
  19. Been thinking about getting one of the long reach stihl battery hedge cutters (hla65 i think) and was wondering are they a lot lighter than the two stroke engined long reach ones? Having a look at the stihl website it works out to be maybe 1kg lighter than the stihl hl94 c-e two stroke long reach hedge cutter. (with the ap300 battery) Just wondering how many people use a battery hedgecutter now over a two stroke one and are they capable of the same sort of cutting? cheers, James.
  20. were you the same size in the andrews as the airstreams? i fancy a change..
  21. Just been watching a few of yur videos, you do some great milling work, some really nice timber you seem to get hold of as well. What do you do with the stuff you mill? Sell it or make something out of it yourself? Cheers, James.
  22. Just caught up with your thread again and read the last 10 pages or so. Great coverage of the arbshow and looks like your enjoying your time off and making the most of it as always! I went to the arbshow myself this year and thought it was great next year i might do the camping and try and meet up with a few guys. Especially you Silky! I'm 26 and would love to do a bit of travelling around like you have done and work at the same time! James.
  23. I would like to do a similar thing so would like to know how you get on with this. What would happen to the land/property if you ended your business or retired?
  24. Cheers for the input, how do you find battery life?
