  1. Cheers for that how long does one battery tend to last?
  2. So a combi drill is probably the one i want for an all rounder then? although sometimes it'll be used for taking out pesky screws... which would be better done with an impact driver. lol! It will only be used occasionally i guess so doesn't have to be top of the range but a good quality one as i want it to last. Been looking at makita, bosch and dewalt drills hard to tell them apart tbh.
  3. Didn't know where to put this so thought i'd pop it in the general chat. I'm after a cordless drill but there seem to be an endless amount off opnes available so was wandering if anyone out there has got any recommendations. Something that would be a good all rounder really, for drilling and screwing index screws in etc.. There are also three different types of drill available: combi drills, drill drivers and impact drivers. Could someone shed some light on what the difference between the three drills are? Cheers!
  4. I'm looking to start milling some oak for boards is it true that quarter sawing is the way to go? People say its more stable than through and through is this correct? The other thing i want to mill is some 6x6 posts which is the best way to mill to get posts that will dry well and won't split? Many thanks, James

    Socks!

I think my problem is more to do with circulation. I have cold feet practically all the time. I suffer very badly from chillblains as well, I'm only 22 so i need to get something to keep them warm as i don't want to suffer all my life!!! I've heard the wool socks are good where abouts do you get them from may get a pair of merino wool socks??

    Socks!

I suffer really badly from cold feet and was wandering what are a good quality warm pair of socks to buy? Cheers!
  7. Been looking at the rg 13 myself and wandered where the best place to buy one from is? nowhere seems to sell them local to me!
  8. I've been following this thread from the start, but never posted anything. So thought i'd better make a contribution! Looks like Chris is a fantastic arborist and boss, its great to see a young lad like myself being given the opportunity to learn on the job. He seems to be able to learn at his own pace and with two experienced and down to earth guys he'll go far. I went to college for two years studying arboriculture and i believe after doing that i would have much prefered an opportunity like you have given Conor to work with a crew in the industry. Down my way theres no opportunity like this and its mostly big firms who have their lead climbers and don't seem to want to give kids the opportunity. Keep up the good work! James.

    461 or 441?

I am looking for a new medium sized saw and my first preference would be the 461 but no-one seems to have them in stock! So was looking at the 441 as well but i'm not sure about the m tronic stuff as it means if anything goes wrong with it you would have to take it back to a store to get it fixed which for me would be a PINTA so i am a bit reluctant to buy one. So was just wandering if any of you had any experience with either of these saws and which one you would choose out of the two? Cheers, James.
  11. I'm getting a MS461 and would also like to do some milling with it but what size mill should i get and what is the largest size timber i could mill with that saw?
  12. Anyone else brought one? I'm now tempted to buy one as my large saw, well its either that or an 880 but thats quite a bit more cash so will have to see... But what are anyones thoughts on it if they have been using it for a while? I know the 660 is rated very highly and i'm always reluctant to go with saws that have just been released.
  13. Agreed! We tend to use a generic risk assesment as someone else on here said i think...
  14. I usually go through a brokeer for my PL and EL insurance but they seem very steep at the moment, and my current insurance company won't cover me for tree felling! So am going to look else where. We are mainly garden maintenance contractors but do a fair bit of small tree work as well and woodland management. so was wandering who the best insurers are to have a look into?? Many thanks!
  15. So as a subcontractor climber, when you turn up on the site would you expect who you are working for to talk you through a RA before you start work??
  16. As the title says i have a Stihl fs100 and the bearings in the hedge cutter head have all broken up has anyone tried to rebuild one of these? Or do you just buy a new head for it? Many thanks, James.
  17. Where abouts are you based s ward?

    husq 372?

How many of you guys are using a husqvarna 372 on a 20" bar? and how have you got on with it? had any problems etc. I'm thinking of buying one as my main ground saw to use. Its either that or i go for a stihl ms461 on a 20" bar which i have heard good things about. any comments would be very helpful!
  19. Sorry to hijack this thread a bit but where do you normally buy your spares from spud? I sometimes struggle to get hold of certain parts (like pistons) from my local supplier.
  20. Air streams are top of the list atm i think. People say theres more flex in them than the zermatts and they are a bit cheeper to. The only issue i have is i'm so use to a high top climbing boot with the haix protector pros they may feel a bit weird to start with.
  21. Yeah i had a look on both their websites but they don't stock all the boots i'm interested in!
  22. I was just wandering what the value of woodland is in the southeast per acre?
  23. Where do you guys get your spares from for your repairs i always have trouble sourcing the items i need which delays getting my kit back up and running!
  24. I need a new pair of chainsaw boots by old protector pros have seen better days.. I've narrowed my selection down to the meindl airstreams, the pfanner zermatts or another pair of protector pros. But i can't find a store that supplies all three so was wandering where the best place to go is! Cheers, James.
