  1. Cheers looks like i need to get a piece of 6 x 1 then! Wheres the best place to go? Builders merchants?
  2. Might be able to get round to do some milling this weekend and am looking to mill some oak posts with the Alaskan and Mini mill. So i was just wandering how to set the mini mill up and what size board do you guys use to mount the guide rails on?? Cheers.
  3. Ok cheers so my best bet is just to cut a piece of ash out of a larger log then rather than use a sapling/small branch? How did you get the shape so well and smooth, what hand tools did you use? Cheers for the help! James.
  4. They look great, did you use a thin bit of ash, roughly the same thickness you wanted or split a larger piece? How did you make the leather guards as well please?
  5. Ok cheers, how do you get the rubber and sleeve out? mine seems pretty well in there, don't want to damage them!
  6. Thanks
  7. Ok thanks. The bearing was in a pretty bad way so the clutch drum fell of without having to remove the circlip at the end of the shaft. (I take it its that small circlip you mean). How do you go about pressing the old bearing out then? do you have to remove the metal sleeve and antivibe rubbers to get better access? And yes mine has got a screw which holds the bearing in place. I think the one which has a big circlip holding the bearing in has a different bearing part number, which is where i got confused.
  8. Is it best to make the handle out of a log that has been split into quarters or from a sapling tree that is about the right diameter?
  9. Got a clutch bearing to do on a Stihl FS100 long handle hedge cutter. Got everything apart ok but trying to figure out the best way to get the bearing out! It seems a tight fit in the plastic case. Does anyone know the best way to get it out without hurting the casing? Cheers!
  10. Got a FS100 thats got a clutch bearing gone, does anyone know the part number for it?
  11. I've got a couple of small hatchet axe heads laying around amd was wandering whether or not to make some handles myslef for them, rather than buy a handle from the shop. Do any of you do this? If so what is the best way to go about it? what wood should i use etc etc any tips or pictures you could show me? Cheers!

    660 :)

I now run a 461 on 20" which i love (its my day to day saw) ,don't use anything else! And my 660 on 36" bar, but will probably only run it on a 30" for normal work. The 36" is handy for milling. Which IMO i'm covered for most situations.

    660 :)

Just got my new 660 that i'd been waiting for since the beginning of February. Its on a 36" bar as i will use it for milling as well. Was going to go for the heated handles but they didn't have any and the 36" bar wasn't an option unfortunately. Lets hope she goes well being as i have waited a while lol!!

    Tools

Cheers for all the replies guys, where do you normally get your tools from? Interent or local suppliers?

    Tools

If you get them on offer they're not too bad IMO i brought a set of ratcheting spanners sizes 8mm to 19mm i think for £40 when they were on offer.
  20. I know this is not strictly "on your bench" related but what brand of tools do you guys use? I need a set of pliers and spanners and was wandering what the decent makes are nowadays? Or what you use at the moment and think it is good quality/value for money?

    Tools

I need a new set of spanners and pliers for doing maintenance on saws, mowers etc etc. And was just wandering what the decent makes are nowadays? I mean mid price range type stuff, not snap-on prices! Or what people are using at the moment and think it is good quality/value for money. James.
  22. Ok thanks! Just to sort of confirm things with you Justin. Stihl released the 661 over the 660 and then recalled the 661 to then re-released the exact same 660 that was already on the shelf before the 661 came out. Which i presume all stihl dealers have had the same scenario? Is that correct???
  23. Can you still get them with the heated handle option?
  24. No, but you can still get a ms461 which is manual tune. I got one instead of the 441 just beacuse of the auto tune. And i'm glad i did after reading this. Cracking saw on a 20" bar btw!
  25. Thanks for the update. I know this may sound like a strange question but will the new run of 660's be the same as the old ones? I.e same quality etc..? Don't particularly want to buy one if they are not the same! Cheers, James.
