  1. I own a 56plate transit and its now just gone over the 100000 miles mark and was wandering how many miles your trucks have done? And what sort of mileage would you do before you considering looking around for a new vehicle?
  2. I really like the look of these mowers but at about 3k new its a bit out of my price range! To be honest i'm looking to spend around the 1.5k mark. I want something reliable that will be able to cut long grass (up to a good 10" at least). And will do it even in the wet, and be able to spread the grass well to mulch down. So at the moment there are three mowers that are in my price range that people have suggested: The little honda: Honda HRS536SD - Mulching Lawn Mower from Mowers UK The John deere: JohnDeere C52KS Commercial Walk Behind Mowers And the AS Motor mowers: AS-Motor AS 53 B6 RB | PSD Grounds Care Ltd So anyone got any opinions on those? any experience with them? I do like the etesia attila 51 so may even look into a second hand one of those.
  3. Ok cheers, will have a look. Yeah scag are to big for what i want tbh. I've also found this little honda as well: Key features | HRS536SD | Lawnmowers | Lawn & Garden | Honda (UK) Anyone used one of those either?
  4. Cheers for the help guys! I like the look of those AS motor mowers, I found this one which is a pretty similar idea to the victa: AS-Motor AS 53 B6 RB | PSD Grounds Care Ltd What do you guys think? I've never heard of these mowers before so am a bit hesitant to buy one until i find out a bit more about them. The john deer looks quite good as well, but am leaning towards the AS Motor as its two stroke. Any one using one of the john deer mowers either? Would be nice to know peoples thoughts on them before i buy. Thanks again, James.
  5. I have one arien mower that i use at the moment but i'm not sure if it would cope with long grass, especially if the conditions were wet as well. What model of ariens do you use?
  6. Do kaaz to a walk behind mulching mower? can't seem to find one?
  7. Thanks for that do you know what model of ariens you had? there are loads of models! I have one but it doesn't like being used on steep banks as the fuel mixes with the oil for some reason?
  8. Ok sounds brill reckon i'll order one in the next couple of days do i have to sign up to your website first?
  9. Does it just hook up to a car battery or can you use it from the mains as well?
  10. Been looking at buying one of these for a while now and was just wandering how they worked etc. and is it worth it? I'll many be using it to get a really good edge on the chain for milling. Could i also sharpen hedge cutters with it by taking off the guide? or is that not possible? (just a thought!) Cheers, James
  11. Also ahs anyone got a picture of their stacks?
  12. Cheers for the advice, so you would stack in any order then or would you start with larger boards at the bottom then smaller boards at the top? but you would also mix the boards up from different logs as well so if they are likely to move when drying they won't all try and move the same way i guess? Also what thickness stickers are you using?
  13. Ok thanks, thats really helpful. I'm currently milling oak at 1.5 inches thick with a max width of boards at about 22 inches. What size stickers would you go for? i was thinking about 3/4 of an inch maximum? I'm more worried about them drying to fast tin a barn as they may split so i've heard thinner stickers is better? The other question is i have a lot of oak to mill and i want a variety of boards so what sort of sizes/thicknesses would you mill? Thanks again, James.
  14. I have finally managed to get some time to try out my alaskan mill which i brought about a month ago! I've already milled a bit of beech and some oak and am very happy with the results, but now i've got some planks i have a few questions about the best way to dry them! So here goes: 1) Should you only stack the same species of wood in one pile or does it not matter? 2) How thick should the stickers be between boards and how should you space them out along the boards? 3) What should the stickers be made from? I have some pine skirting that i was thinking of using as its bone dry and all the same thickness. 4) What the best way to stack the boards? As high as possible with as much weight as possible? 5) I am planning on storing the boards in a barn will this be ok? Any help would be great guys! Its my first go at milling so just trying to get clued up really! Cheers, James.
  15. Its a shame if they are no longer imported as they are one of the best mulching mowers i've ever used, take on very long grass with ease and still manages to spread it with ease. Anyone know of a similar mower i could look into buying then?
  16. I have an old 550 pro mulch mower and its getting on a bit now and don't want it to fail on me. So i'm looking to replace it with a similar mower, but i can't seem to find anyone who sells victa mowers in the uk? So does anyone know of where i can buy them from or a similar sort of mower capable of cutting long, thick grass and spreading it well? Many thanks, James.
  17. Haha not really..... you may have to elaborate! thanks for the replies though!
  18. I'm on about the vertical mini mill. I'm milling some 6x6 posts and wanted to try and avoid screw holes in them I can't see how i can avoid screwing into the usable wood at the moment???
  19. I've put the guide rails on some 4x2 but want to try and avoid screwing that to the timber i'm logging or is it to much hassle to bother with?
  20. Just wondering if there is any other way of attaching the guide rail for the mini mill rather than using screws into the bits of wood your milling? How do you guys usually do it? i was thinking of making up some clamps or something like that?
  21. Cheers guys!reckon i'll go for that one then, although looking at it again it doesn't say it has a reverse gear? will have to havea look on the makita website i think.
  22. Had a look at that one and with the two batteries it comes in a bit over my budget tbh. I've found this one Makita BHP458RFE Combi Drill 18v x 3Ah Lithium Batteries same sort of torque as the one you have but is cheeper? Don't know why???
  23. Cheers, do you reckon its worth getting two batteries if its only going to be used now and then? how long do they tend to last you?
  24. I've decided i'll probably go for a makita as it seems popular with good reviews. Still not sure which model to go for, there are loads: 18v Combi Drills, DeWALT Combi Drills, Bosch Drills, Makita Combi Drills, Hitachi Combi Drills, Lithium Combi Drills, 18v Makita Combi Drills, Tools Online, Makita UK, Power Tools UK Any ideas or are they all pretty similar? Ideally i want one with two batteries.
  25. Cheers for all the replies guys! whats the customer service like for the makita drills? Just in case anything went wrong or needed replacing.
