  1. I'm lost off but must be something in it I've climbed poplars and snapped healthy branches off easy but smaller dead ones on the tree are harder to snap?
  2. Obviously don't don't put much chip on though mate cos you would be overloaded haha
  3. I'd never asked for the help of the police before but Ioved to an area in Newcastle I didn't know got up for work and my car was smashed up along with the rest of the streets, apparently there had been a young girls funeral on and a 15 yr old lad got upset and acted out of character, the police said sign a form so he doesn't need to go to court and hel pay for damage, I thought fair enough. Once that was sorted the lad turned out to be 18 and said he only kicked the wing mirror hel pay me 40 quid out of his dole over 6 month?? Where is the justice I felt the police led me into what this lad wanted
  4. Sounds good mate I missed out on the proper lisence so stuck with the 3.5 for now they do well to be fair don't think they were designed for the grief we give them haha
  5. Not that far mate haha I used to laugh at that sort of work but since working for myself and getting this sort of work I get more return from it and my machines get a break don't get me wrong from my posts my love is in big takedowns and we've got plenty big uns on next week can't wait.
  6. Are the 3lt still on normal license?
  7. By sympathetic pruning I mean a very light reduction of trees just the tips there is some examples a reduction thread on here rich rule and them have showed some fantastic reductions and half the skill must be convincing private clients to have that work done because most want them cut in half to get there moneys worth.
  8. I've been unsure what to get ours is tired now she's got a huge steel back on and I reckon we forget how well they do I was thinking of 7.5 toner but you got all the checks and that. I drove a transit 115 with a timberwolf 190 and chip on and it was canny impressive like. I think thats what wel get but was wondering about a crewcab but heard you lose a lot of space have you tried crewcabs mate?
  9. The trouble with our line of work mate is if it's private clients they don't realize what we do until they see it everyone thinks a big tree is just a sple gardening job
  10. I've been wondering about other trucks mate we need a new one in a few month we have a transit 90 I fancy a 115 or better was gonna ask you about the iveco?
  11. That is interesting mate aye some timbers seem to be stronger dead. I wasn't having a go at your theory it could well work the hardest thing would be selling it to customers like sympathetic pruning etc.
  12. When in Ireland I worked on Michael flattelys estate never seen him when I was there but the lad who did reckon he was good crack apparently he used to be a builder. I've worked at a couple of Newcastle footballers places but it's questionable wether they are celebrities outside Newcastle haha best was we worked at keiron dyers through a friend of a friend and so on but I got paid and Owa youngen didn't so we liked going down the training ground and shout "hew dyer you owe Owa youngen 60 quid" haha
  13. Haha good one mate. Just noticed your signature have you seen fear and loathing in last Vegas?
  14. Haha me father reckons he a got a big shot with him one day heard this saw making a queer racket and the lad was cutting a log with half the saw in the ground:001_rolleyes:
  15. Exscuse my spelling using I phone:blushing:
  16. That's how I feel maye I've worked at so many companies when dangerous tree comes up it was "get the lightest climber to do it" at 18 I was working bad trees because I was the "lightest" climber the other lads at most were half a stone heavier! People get too technical IMO it's more about feeling what you are doing and feeling what the tree is doing I lime your thinking though mate we wouldn't learn new things if we were all old fashioned knuckle heads like me haha
  17. We take down a lot of big trees and because of TPO's or preservation orders they need to be in serious decline so I would prefer they were as strong as possible when up them I know a week or two of no cambium layer shouldn't make a difference but saves my paranoia haha I like your thinking though mate it's interesting. I've always wondered when my old gaffers sent me on a job removing ivy from a tree why they didn't spend ten minutes severing a section out to make it easier when we got there a couple of month later:sneaky2:
  18. I feel when I use a saw it's like a extension of my body or part of it same as jcb drivers I know reckon they can dig soil but feel pipes through the joy sticks in the cab. You can use a saw one handed safely but you can't teach it and the lads who think it is dangerous obviously don't feel comfortable doing it and shouldn't but I know the lads who do are standing up for themselves as they feel they can do it safely but are not encouraging others to do it.
  19. It's a thread which will go on forever I was trained old school and i do my work without having to think step by step it's just natural I remember my first day at a countywide firm and doing a takedown which was only 30ft I felt under pressure being watched h &s wise so instead of a usual cut and hold move as in hold a branch and do a cut 2 foot away I had to do a step cut but it broke early and I naturally quickly reached with a hand over the top of a running saw! That would mever happen but I was in an uncomfortable position having to think too much. It's got to depend on the user in my opinion but if your client wants you to work a slower certain way do it and price it to suit
  20. Me and the wife love gardenstown near macduff banff it's not quite as far as the highlands but isn't too far, we stop in a little fishermans cottage named suil na Mara (eye of the sea). Has an open fire and the sea is literally outside the window will put a couple of pics up when I'm at home mate on my phone at the minute. The attic is done out in timber and has a big window which opens for sea views and dolphins can be spotted I love it.
  21. I would of been on but banned mself from drunk posting:blushing:
  22. Haha no way mate I struggle to remember my name sometimes.
  23. He'd tell you but then he'd have to kill you:001_tt2:
  24. Congratulations on the pregnancy mate and on being a true gent. If there is a tree across the road at the time I hope it's not the size of that bloody welly in you avatar mate haha
  25. I reckon so it goes to mill and fits on timber wagon flush? Looks lovely when selling a bit of timber you can do the work of legends but they only see the dressing up you've done
