  1. Caorann as far as i understand you add your SJ into the rope and then use the tether from the RW in the same way Joe Harris connected it in DRT? P.S thanks for the treetools blog i enjoyed reading it.
  2. Hey caorann, can i see a picture as i think i know what you mean but would like to be able to clarify in my head what your saying, if you know what i mean.
  3. Hey Al, i don't mind people pointing out stuff that i do as it makes me strive to be better.
  4. Blimey thats a good distance covered, I'm still reading up on a lot of SRT systems because I'm new to it but fully immersing myself into it.
  5. Hi jpbever, Cheers, i'll pm you when I'm on the better computer as this old one plays havoc with the web browser from time to time.
  6. Hi Al, i didn't mean the holy grail commit at you i was referring to how i filmed it in the video. sorry, i think i was taking too big steps as i was creating a bit of slack when raising the pantin up. But i have tried smaller steps and this seems to eliminate this and gives me more rhythm whilst moving up = i get there quicker. I looked at the rig you were talking about but haven't had the chance to play with one.
  7. Hi Oldmilltrees, Reg is right i also wouldn't recommend it to novice climbers, tree access yes anyone but even i have came to a few situations where i feel i have to stop and think about it, but i am still learning. You use a fair bit of your core when working the system in the tree and limb walking takes a bit of getting used to because your not pulling your weight off another part of the line but the static line itself.
  8. Hi everyone, I made these videos to be as honest as i could for me using the wrench. I didn't want to make a video making you think you'll be 90% quicker, 10 times more good looking and 3% cooler. Just an honest day to day use of it. So i'll get down to the questions i've seen. Yes i have planned a limb walk to capture the movement but to be honest you tend the hitch rather than in DRT the slack or the line. Going up is very quick and at a lot less effort. Working the tree is much better mainly because you don't worry about friction created from the running end of the line. You do use more false anchor points/re directs but i have found this to be vastly beneficial to my work positioning, oh and my back and shoulders are thanking me. Im really sold on the wrench and I'm not sure if I'm going back to DRT anytime soon. Its just easier with the wrench but you do have to learn a different climbing style. Al the illustrate using it, thats all I'm not trying to make it out to be the holy grail, ascent wasn't handwork at all in fact i wasn't even out of breathe. Just looks inefficient because alder is bouncy, bouncy. Oh yes I'm using the lockjack in a very tight system, i haven't had a chance to have a play with my spiderjack on it yet but apparently it is very, very good.
  9. really need to get me one of those pins.
  10. Just in case you haven't been tuned into the most awesome thread ever (subject to your opinion ) Here are 2 videos i recently did with the Wrench. 11. Cheers Drew, Look forward to seeing your videos.
  12. Will try as it did feel a little stop, lift, step, stand and not rhythmic as i was aiming for. I took larger steps just because I told myself to
  13. Cheers Mistahbenn, Im so sold on SRT now, just going up to retrieve the lowering block after those stems was easy.
  14. I had a go with an XPG saw today OMG i want heated handles!
  15. Hi Dilz, it can be fitted midline with a different pin, of which i don't own one. Um going up and setting an anchor can be a lot quicker. Throw it over the branch you want the base anchor it and away you go. In this case i went up with the line on a base anchor, got my groundsman to undo it and tied it to make a top anchor. Worked the tree, stuck some spikes on for the last 2 sections then switched the connection to DRT to decend so i could retrieve the top anchor easily. Hope this gives you a better mental image, i will get some pictures and better footage next week at the reccy climb if the weather is good.
  16. I guess my running costs are higher than yours:001_tt2: I work further a field than 7 miles theres not enough work to keep me going in that small radius. (a lot of companies you see). Personally i dont think its taking the P im not a charity and don't work for free, i want to make profit. If i did it for £30 i would only make £2 profit! £25ph + £3 fuel costs to run too and from site £5 wear and tear on the job (the spade might break or i lose a pin from the tailgate). So £2 profit or £42 profit Just my break down in costs for you. xx Plus you'd still of lost out to the gardener he was £20
  17. Hey Drew, I use the LCD back so i can review my footage if i want. To be honest i use the LCD back to line the camera angle up then ignore it for the whole filming episode. On the plus side the Hero2 has a louder beep sound so you know when your filming 1 beep and when you stop that section of footage 3 beeps. Anyway the best software i have found and by a long way is Final Cut Pro 10 for editing. Cutting and balding is really easy, idiot proof hence why i can us it. I use compressor 4 to make the files smaller but still 720p HD because i hate waiting hours for footage to upload. Im learning how to use Motion 5 which allows me to create my own graphics and transitions. Although i am hopefully getting my hands on the WiFi controller soon too
  18. £75 minimun charge to cover 1 hrs work if its just me. £150 for 1hr if there is two of us. The way i've learnt is small jobs your generally up against the gardeners who charge £7.50 per hour. Well at least i normally am. Heres todays example; I arrive to view the job a magnolia to be removed and dig the stump out, 4 ft hight and a spade will easily lift it out. I was thinking of bagging it up and putting it in my parents garden. £75 i said. She hit the roof! My gardener said £20 i said well i cannot compete with that price as my running costs are much higher than his obviously.
  19. It lacked a certain wedge fail for me...... haha Great vid Darren.
  20. Just spoken to a few of my friends from parks, sad times, Something like 13 arborists too out of work. Feel for them as its not the best time to be out of work. Hope they find work quickly.
  21. Fridays training day for Frosty (Neil) and Sam. Fracture prune a 80% dead ash. I let them loose with the access line Rope Wrench / Lockjack combo. Anyway theres a number of photos and they weren't great as it was really overcast and rained a lot. heres the link, Ash Fracture Pruning | Facebook
  22. Yes underneath the spikes and off set to towards the ankle/achillies but only used it to tension up the RW and Running bowline below me. So i didn't put any real weight into it.
  23. Mistaben, Spikes only used for the last couple of bits of stem, didn't effect the use with a pantin at all.
  24. Hi, I'll try to answer the questions i've read. Mark, its about the same in speed wise as DRT except for a couple of things ascending the tree in now don't even break into a sweet. Working the crown there is no worry about lines gaining too much friction as the line is static. My back feels better by a long way as ascending I'm pretty much upright with no curving of the lumber unlike when i foot lock. It does also allow me to switch it to DRT as you could see at the end of the vid. For me I think I'm going to be staying with the RW system as i even use it in small trees just like i would with my DRT SJ system. Oldmilltrees, I'll try to get some footage of a limb walk without using the RAD return and with for you. I need to setup my extension boom on my hat as the RW seemed to spend a lot of the time out of shot. I'll see if i can 'rope' someone into filming me when i got to the Arbtalk reccy climb in 2 weeks near me. Personally i used this film as i thought it was a more honest day to day video of the use rather than the more exciting (for me) jobs i put up. Just thought it would be fairer if people could see it on a very simple non taxing tree. Cheers Ian
