  1. Because it works just as well with a hitch or Lj setup. I hear the rope brake gets in the way and you have to remember the SJ doesn't hold well on a single line by itself.
  2. What a lovely set of pictures, nice work.
  3. Got ya, i was thinking of something totally different.
  4. Mat, im a bit lost, but like a brake setup?? Wouldn't that produce a fair bit of friction in retrievable mode?
  5. Rupe, yeah, but, yeah, but, you reduce any chance of repetitive wear of rope against rope. I know the risk is low and you could put a crab or crab and pulley but its still simple and works nicely.
  6. Very much so, I'm not a huge fan of the base anchor due to the load increase on the anchor point.
  7. Simple to install too,
  8. forgot to add the picture link Untitled Album | Facebook
  9. oh yeah on this blog theres a good bit of info on the RW by Drew too Treetools Blog | life in trees - hell yeah!
  10. Hi Rich, Heres a link to a picture set Drew B took, and in the video i show it at the end. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru1Wqa5dZik]Cherry Removal - YouTube[/ame] Its the best setup i've used as i was using a long tail in the bowline to about halfway down the tree. Saw this on DBTree on Facebook and was like, i'll try this.
  11. Mark to make things even easier try using a retrievable anchor too, takes seconds to install (quicker than a cambium saver from the ground). Works really well for me and i also use it on stems so i can get my line out where as a running bowline wouldn't be retrieved.
  12. Blimey Nod, hope you get up and running quickly. Some people are just the scum of the earth.
  13. I have a large silver bull pouch on my harness for my lanyard and it has a pocket where is stick my other srt bits.
  14. The one in this video is the GoPro helmet hero2. You get all the bits an bobs with it but to be honest if its going on youtube just buy the 960 or Hero1:thumbup1:
  15. Cheers everyone, Adam they are really good especially if your only doing easy rigging or want to lower timber down horizontal. I have a lot of ropes..........
  16. Nice work Mat, any pictures of it before and after? Looks like you had good weather for it too.
  17. I spent the day climbing for Neil (frosty). We stripped the rear of the cherry out because most the weight was heading towards the ivy covered wall and garden. Nice weather after a chilly start and spectacular views of a reservoir, but i cant remember the name. I made sure i filmed the retrievable anchor system and tried to show a brief clip of the use of srt using multiple anchors to create a better work position. Anyway heres the video:biggrin: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru1Wqa5dZik]Cherry Removal - YouTube[/ame]
  18. Hi Dan, I have written in my method statement that this (srt) is applicable to our industry for safety and work positioning. Also it reduces fatigue and rsi injures that can occur from drt climbing. Then i explain its use, i.e its an rope brake and not for life support etc, etc, basically just provide info that shows its pluses and how it reduces rsi's happening. There not going to do you for using techniques that reduce your risk of injury be it minor or major. Hope this reads right,

  19. Nice climb Mat, Are you using a GRCS to winch those limbs back over?
  20. Ok, so i've been off this thread for a few days but have just read and caught up (ish) so i've taken my RW right back to the minimum to see how i fair, so its RW/HC which works just as well as the LJ/RW combo and I'm using PI instead of my Static SRT line too. So my findings, Pantin is easier but I'm just as at home foot locking my way up and using pretty much the same advancing technique as i did with the pantin on. I popped a quick VT on the line when heading out on bendy limbs to create a rads system, takes only a few seconds in reality. Natural anchors work a treat for positioning, of which in art i may have just tried to get out there on a long limb walk. This means I'm already in a better work position. BUT mostly my body feels better from using this system, i know some people are sceptical but it does take time and practice to learn any new type of climbing or even climbing at all. For me personally once i gave it my full attention and cleared my mind of how i think i should climb everything came together. No longer am i governed by planning a route for friction against my running line. Gibbon has put up a very good video recently too.
  21. With Deer man on this I too was like it just makes sense... Dinosaur Rope Technique its called by Rope Access workers, I couldn't see why because what we did was very different in our working dimensions but the RW is a great transition over and I have the chance to test the Uni soon.
  22. I've always used a long prussic loop tied in a klemheist but i don also have a dual but prefer using a loosely tied friction hitch.
  23. Mark, you only need to travel about 1.5-2m of line before my pantin picks up from the lines static weight. But i have on longer ascents tied the bag to the bottom of the line.
  24. So the weather was a PITA today so no filming as all you would of seen was rain on the camera. BUT we did carry out the test and Myself Vs Norfolkfreelancer (tom) Rw/Hc combo Vs Hc/Tk = RW completed its 20% reduction in half the time (in fact i did 2 trees to its 1) and being lime it came into its own today. Being able to run it pretty much wherever i wanted through the thrifty crown and not worry about friction, just added removable redirects as i went out to one part and collected them on the way back in. So we both allowed each other to put in an anchor as i felt it would be unfair if one of us was having a bad day with the throwline. Then once the anchors were in it was off you go.
  25. Yeah either the middle clip on the HC or a dmm thinble attached to the RW itself. With a slic pin you can switch over in seconds. Running bowline your top anchor, srt up, strop in, remove pin and RW, remove runing bowline and away you go. P.S the 1st time you use it for work positioning it is going to feel weird but give it a few hours and you may never ever want to go back.
