  1. Either footlock the line and use my hand to clear the stem or my more favored method, clip a hand asecnder with footloop above the limb and step up freeing the system below the limb. I tend to plan my routes with false anchors a lot now so i rarely have this situation unfold. Since getting into my head i have constant friction i have found a revolver and small sling invaluable. I rarely put a pantin or have a hand ascender now just footlock up the line.
  2. Ok so i thought id share something i do when descending after being asked about it. So before a descent i lift myself up on the line and place my hand on the hitch whilst it is in the free position i then lower myself down with the hitch in motion rather than under load makes descending easy peasy. Just came about after someone saying it was sometimes hard to get the hitch moving from the off. Rupe: Stick with it, you will love it i hope.....On the energy side its more efficient but you can still burn as much energy if you just footlock the line and use you hands. I think i work my arms a bit more than i did as im holding all my weight rather than a reduced amount like in drt.
  3. This is the comedy bit they were removing the damaged branches caused by the beer lorry. They hadn't even started the reducing part of the work as i agreed with them you might as well wait until the scaffolding is ready to go up and see if/what needs pruning so they did 50% of the spec.
  4. If your tending slack on spikes its the same tending motion as DRT pretty much.
  5. Thats how i see it. Just was really confused by the situation and im thinking maybe someone else within the department has just gone and sent out the paperwork before checking.
  6. Sorry as far as im aware they are only in a conservation area and do not have tpo's. Sorry for the confusion.
  7. So heres a question. Full planning permission is given and access to the site for the site office, deliveries is required. As i understand if its suggested in the report and has been approved it can be carried out without applying for works?? Right? wrong? The reason I'm confused is because in the past full planning was given to a site of which 2 of 6 abies that had top's were to be removed for the driveway. They got removed and no tree work application was sent in. Just got asked the question in which i did the report and a contractor carried out the access works only for the client to have a questionnaire/notification about the tree works? Im sure its quite clear but i thought id put the question out here to other who can help my mind thats easily confused before i give my opinion and advice.
  8. Why don't you just rescue them like you did in DRT? If the base anchor has the ability to lower great but if they are attached via a strop then this makes it impossible anyway. But I'm sure the ground crew would spring into action like a well oiled olympic team.
  9. Have you checked that you didn't put an effect on with imovie?? looks like ripple effect to me
  10. Nice vid and good use of the multianchor eye. A little too long but all good.
  11. Indeed i like to think so Its quite funny how i read it and others have read it. I wanted to keep it and the council were open to suggestions including getting shot of it but, it took a lot of back and forth with reference material to finally get the permission.
  12. Bee-line is really good feels a much better cord than Ocean Poly.
  13. Theres an even bigger problem the tight access might fit a bigger city crane but this is where the gate is (yellow) and this is where the tree is (red) note the distance in the bottom right plus the loader would only be able to get to the yellow mark as there is not much room to turn around. I've done my homework on the site and i had to accept its a pain of a job.
  14. Yeah but they only extend to 21m this tree is taller than that (25.2m according to the clinometer). The 6t lift at zero extension is good but imo they would of ended up costing me money by not being suitable for the job.
  15. We started smashing this out over the past 2 days. We couldn't get anything wider than the transit through the old stupid manor house gate so it ruled a crane out but on the plus side i could get right under the tree for chipping. Tom climbed all of day 1 and until midday today (hes only been climbing for about 8 months). He did really well and i hope it was a good learning curve. I took over removing the large timber sections and thoroughly hated using his DRT setup! Anyway theres 99 pics so heres the link. Bad Access Beech | Facebook
  16. I'll see if i can make it iPad/iPhone friendly later then. Works on the iMac tho
  17. If the weather stays dry.
  18. I've got a huge beech to take down the rest of this week and know its going to be the best option, way to much up and down for double rope.
  19. Still from time to time i do that. Its a refreshing way to climb, have you had a chance to try climbing using either natural or removable redirects yet?
  20. I prefer the ISC one for some reason as they are the same pretty much. Never had a go on the Futura but seen joe harris use it in his vids a few times.
  21. I use both on my stein hat the sticky pads and they are very strong, on my petzl i use the vent attachment.
  22. I was there doing a drive by on the job we cancelled today. Went all tropical by turning the heater up.
  23. Has anyone else found that using the RW in the pouring rain is awesome?? Seems to run very well maybe better than in the dry.
  24. Well we retrenchment pruned this oak on friday after a long mediation period with the council over the exact works as we were keen to save the tree rather than fell it. The crown had two stages a lower section of which we took it down to with a few long limbs dying back and the upper section which was sparse and starting to go into decline. I very nearly fell off the stem when the top section came out as i lost my footing seconds before the pull line was pulled. [ame] [/ame]
  25. As long as we do what is classed as a reasonably safe option. Thats why i like the choked alpine/ring eye combo.
