  1. Dates confirmed although woodfest might be a 4 day show because of the Queens Jubilee. I will be filling in the exact site locations and adding postcodes this year so people with sat nav can find the show. I will endeavor to add the camp site locations but i will not know these until last minute.
  2. Hi Mark i have a picture in this album, hopefully it will explain but if not i'll take some tomorrow when i go head to head on some lime reductions SRT VS DRT!
  3. Found this off treetools blog _DSC0077 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
  4. Arborholic reminded me to post these up. Follow the link for some pictures of us 2 on the RW/LJ setup Rope Wrench Testing climb | Facebook
  5. Nice video Cary, nice smooth climb too
  6. Yes Please Just need this weather to clear off a bit,
  7. Yeah, currently I'm sitting in the I'm having more problems with it camp than hate or love camps.
  8. Yeah I'm already planning a spiderjackery type video, just need to a) find the right tree (possibly a plane i have my eye on or a 100ft beech) b) Good weather and light are required c) get my other cameras up the tree and in position for filming and people to use them well. work and reccy climb is one thing but planning is required for a good film. But I'm on it.
  9. I tried my sawpod out today and noticed a couple of things, one sometimes the blade is close/rubs against my chainsaw trousers when drawing the saw, it stops me utilizing my shins when climbing and also sometimes get pulled out by my strop. None of these problems i've ever had with the saw on my harness.
  10. Very much so Mark, this is the thing i love the most about SRT it allows me to create new anchor/re-directs and change my line bend to vertical for working again rather than a long 45 degree angle from one point. That and the no more moaning about the friction in my lines. But in all honesty im still very much loving using the RW, this week i moved to the HC/RW setup and cannot see myself on most jobs going back. BUY ONE! Shinny, Shinny,
  11. So is it worth a subscription? I've held off renewing my Forestry Journal because i wanted to know if this is any good and worth a read (honest opinions please if its not great then i'll renew).
  12. Does this mean your fully converted Haven't been back to drt for a month now. So easy using natural re-directs that you just wouldn't think of using in drt because of the friction, today a used 5 in these lime re-pollards (3 trunks with lots of tops about 20ft from the pollard point, allowed me to create a new anchor on each tree then work my way back to the 1st tree removing the stems that i had anchored to) Very easy work and work positioning.
  13. Sounds like he was trying to seranade you:lol:
  14. Hi Mat, Yeah i've decided to give a hitch a bash this week, works nicely but i have been using armour pruss on 10mm static line so i think i need to try a different cord. Also i had to DRt this afternoon to around 70ft = Me knackered, only yesterday i had to do the same on SRt and well, it was quick, easy and my arms didn't hurt one bit.
  15. I found if you descend a little bit like you have to with the HC/RW setup the LJ/RW LJ re aligns and doesn't have any side loading. So basically go a bit higher and drop down a bit. This week i switched onto the HC/RW setup to give it a fair bash, good but not as good as the LJ/RW setup.
  16. swinny is spot on, you need to gain experience to be worth more money as you'll be hopefully more efficient and able to tackle the harder more mind taxing jobs.
  17. Hi Rupe, LJ over the hitch defiantly but i cannot comment on the Spiderjack as i haven't tested/tried it myself yet.
  18. Interesting thread Tony, One of which when just thought about it would have to go with 'managing trees for human aesthetics', purely because sivaculture covers everything else i can think of. We all know trees manage themselves well all on their own so anything we do is mainly subjective to our 'human' need and opinions??
  19. Hi Rupe, I've read on the buzz the brake gets in the way off a spiderjack, not got round to trying it myself as I'm still testing the Lockjack system thoroughly. Paul, Works really well except when ascending i tend to place my hand below the hitch rather than on the Wrench as i do with the Lockjack.
  20. Social misfits love it.
  21. Agreed, we will all be like a mass of magpies staring at all the shiny gear.
  22. Dean, honestly its no different to a hitch climbers level of cumbersome.
  23. Hey oldmilltrees, The wrench itself doubles up as a pretty good hand ascender tho, with practice using just the pantin is very efficient for short hauls and it means your pretty much straight into work.
  24. So heres the video of myself and Arborholic playing with the Rope Wrenches. If you missed the reccy climb you missed out! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u99KXlpzmg]Rope Wrench UK test 2 ( Joy Formidable - Austere ) - YouTube[/ame]
  25. Hey oldmilltrees, Nope LJ is siting perfectly straight on my line its the RW which sits off to the left.
