  1. As you can see a 10 crown thin will hardly be noticeable
  2. Where abouts? ive got a job in harrogate in a few months time.
  3. Sounds like the trap door is creaking...you can usually tell when they will abandon ship.
  4. Not familiar with Jensen but my Tw & forst both have a lifting eye on top of the machine, they just need an appropriate lifting shackle.
  5. I have dealt with 3 separate people from the hotel, 1 of them worked there and didn't seem to know much about it! the other told me they wanted it "tidied up" considering the circumstances i applied for a 15% crown thin, crown lift to 3.5 meters & draw back from building by 2m, which would of "tidied it up" let more light through and lifted it away from the building! then the owner jumped on board and told me about the problems they were having, in all honesty i wouldn't want it where it is, its huge, bird **** all around it, its the first thing you see when you walk up the drive, the only pruning that will rectify the situation is where the 660 goes through at ground level Surely if a tree is causing you to loose custom and you are willing to re plant whats the issue? i often feel trying to please the client and the TO is like fighting a loosing battle :001_huh:
  6. All that heavy on top of brash makes me cry
  7. A site where we have done some work at before has a tpo'd horse chestnut right next to the building, building being a hotel, the hotel are wanting to take the tree down as they say the rooms around it are less desirable as they are dark and the tree blocks views from the guest rooms. The council has rejected crown lifting and 15% crown thin and have gave consent for 10%! this wont rectify any of the problems they are having with the tree. Tree is perfectly healthy and it would be a shame to lose it however their is acres of room around the hotel grounds to fell and re plant in a more suitable place. At what point does the T O say yes your loosing business because of the tree and their is no amount of pruning will rectify the situation i give consent to fell & replant? or am i fighting a loosing battle?
  8. I got a builders bag wrapped around the cutter wheel on full chat and it slid the whole lot over! its a bit involved getting the whole wheel, shaft, bearings off. once its off just unbolt the taper lock tap it out, slide it over and re-fit. Apart from that occasion it has never budged an inch.
  9. No prices though Jon...what are you using?
  10. Is there no difference in speed when it runs off 1 or the other? is it a big difference in price to have pto & electric motor?
  11. Why did you decide to get 1 that runs off pto and electric?
  12. Ive been looking at those too, what model have u got?
  13. How much are them Posch Hydrocombi splitters?
  14. Yes, mine is the big base version, decent splitter, just make sure you have got a decent machine to run it off. Can move it yourself, tends to get splitter head stuck a bit unto you get the nack.
  15. From running a small business point of view the 9 quid odd an hour minimum wage they want to bring in will cause more harm than good! I know people need decent wage to live but what happened to bettering yourself and picking a trade up to enable you to receive more £? Too many people getting their arses wiped! I know people who have worked 2 jobs while at college and come out as sparkies etc and don't get much more than £10 an hour, so why should someone doing unskilled work receive the same??? Bog cleaner £9 quid an hour! Really!
  16. Them posch ones look decent. What are the prices like?
  17. looks a bit flimsy, ive got a tm 400 big base version off back of the tractor but its killing the tractor!
  18. Thinking about getting another log splitter but not sure if i should buy or make 1, has to be vertical with waist height table, self powered unit, 10T minimum where to look?
  19. I cant see anything decent! id end up bringing it home if it were trailed and tbh i want to be able to leave it at the yard without the fear of it going walkies.
  20. Just for ease of movement, plus its harder to nick .
  21. Tired of lifting the hydraulic splitter on and off the tractor, its an old david brown doesn't have enough pasty to get through big stuff and running it on tick over aint doing it any favours! i was thinking about making a splitter on the undercarriage of a tracked wheel barrow so its easily moved around, any ideas? pictures? of your own.
  22. Group of 7 trees, 5 are protected as i have the tpo info, the 2 that wasn't we felled a month ago, now plans have being approved to remove the 5 remaining. However the plans only relate to the 2 that have already gone, not the others! i think somebody has misunderstood the plans, also their is a block of social housing going up within 3 meters of the remaining trees! seems strange
  23. some work has being approved by the council to remove topd trees on a construction site, i would like to cover my own back by speaking to someone myself. So who goes out to site on the councils behalf?
  24. i am looking for a direct line to 1 of the tree officers at Selby council, can anyone help? the council website doesn't have any contact numbers on!
  25. Got a log stuck in the splitter, hit it with the lump hammer a couple of times to free it, swung hammer, missed log, hit myself in the goolies! was laughing while in pain.
