  1. That's what I mean about dog tooth cut, dunno what other people call it. I am going to take my helmet cam because it is 1 big mo fo . We got that to fell and chip up and an ash to dismantle tomorrow then hiab the day after to crane it off site. It's give off 30mph wind and rain here tomorrow B][/b]
  2. That's where the problem lies, there is not much sound wood left for a hinge. The tree is located on the corner of an building site that has not being developed so it can't hurt anything wherever it goes,
  3. I have got a huge pop to take down, it has heavy lean in the right direction. it has a large cavity inside, I have never had to fell 1 this big with so much lean and with a cavity. Question is...when I gob it out then dog tooth it I will loose a lot of control of direction as there is a small amount of hinge left. Is there a different way of going about this? Leave as bigger hinge as possible?
  4. Stop hating
  5. Second day out today, managed to track it into both gardens and leave the chip behind, dunno how we managed without a tracked machine before. Feed rollers were wound right up to full whack! its just way too fast to feed, it actually makes it harder as it rips brash out of your hands, we have slowed it down and its kept 2 of us busy not done much snedding as it broke down most unions easy, i rate it on a par with out TW 190 so far. Redwoods have being really helpful so far

    I am back

Good man Andy...glad your back, i now have someone to pester with any tree / mechanical related questions
  7. I have being going through tree surgeons insurance for the last 4 years, never shopped around, but now we are a ltd company and i want to insure plant and tools it has shot up which is understandable.
  8. I am looking for an insurance firm to cover tools and plant, can you recommend 1?
  9. Our tie over tr6 arrived today from Forst, its even remote control...Going to put it through its paces tomorrow
  10. c1+e is 12 gtw
  11. Looks cool, are you going to put a chip box on it? or is it just for moving heavy?
  12. What truck you got?
  13. Payload on a 3.5t would be less with nose weight of chipper/trailer deffo under 1 tonne with fuel men tools, a 7.5t Mitsubishi fuso has a payload of 4 tonnes, if you want a hiab your better off going 10 tonner as the weight of a crane on anything smaller will kill its payload.
  14. 3.5t vans are crap for tree work, i have being granted an operators licence but have hung off buying a wagon as i have bought a new chipper. Their is pros and cons to going hgv the big plus is the fact that you may only have to tip off once instead of 3 and 4 times! I paid for a firm to get my o licence as i didn't want the hassle all in all cost about a grand. Inspections are not much bother with a mobile mechanic. For us i would end up running a 3.5 tipper along side to quote / when we go fencing and sell my fiesta that i use now. Also i would have to park the wagon at the yard which means dragging all the gear down their everyday. You can get an Isuzu grafter that can legally tow 3.5t no o licence , park where you want, no inspections etc. this has thrown a spanner in the works hgv or no hgv???
  15. Its being on there loads of times before.
  16. We are going through all this shizzle now. did the 1 day rolo training last week "load of bollocks"! got to book the cscs touch screen now.
  17. Yes vertical. When it is off the van I can move it up and down, but no play left to right.
  18. It's not dangerously bad, only a couple of mil, I wanna rectify if before it worsens. Don't really want to buy a new one as they cost a fortune!
  19. The ram that activates the trailer brake on my indespension plant trailer has got a bit of play in it through wear and tear, is there bushes bearings inside that can be replaced? or do you have to but the whole lot?
  20. Did he get it remapped?
  21. Its not good really is it! yeah warranty is great but like hamdog says all the down time can cripple you work wise! mine is around 3 weeks away...we are getting a tr6 on loan at the end of the week.
  22. I ring our tree officer if he is in the office he checks there and then.
  23. Ha my face hurts laughing...
  24. Years ago my friend had to do a ladder course while working on the council, I couldn't believe there was such a thing. It's not until you see how some people work that you realise that in the day and age where people sue at the drop of a hat these courses are needed to cover yourself against accidents that could have being avoided using common sense.
  25. He will graft but that's it. He can only labour, when it comes to common sense there is none, when we go fencing after 2 years he still can't set out without me. Now the buisness has grown I can no longer be in 3 places at once, on site working looking at jobs servicing tackle etc. it frustrates me having to do everything & Worrying about him dropping a bollock and hurting himself or someone else. I'm coming to the conclusion that minimum wagers are useless! I'd rather pay someone £10 an hour and not have to struggle on
