  14. hi sloth yes got your pm,,hence its in the post,,, I finnished it with chestnuts,,,,food safe oil! one coat is good enough ,as the honey will sort out the final finnish,,,,, I usually make them in ash,on the pole lathe during the summer months then remount them in the winter and sand them up when dry,,,but in the winter use dry cherry on the power lathe,,,,both methods work fine,,,
  15. heres .a cherry one, forgot to take my camera,,,will make some more tomorrow of different styles,,,got carried away on making ten bird boxes to go round a clients fishing lake,,so this was a last minute thing,,,played with some colours to play on the honey bee thingy,,,
  16. if you drill a one inch hole in the centre and replace with a flexible sealant that reduces the splitting ,,,,(it allows movement and moisture release).

  25. the above comments are correct,,,its having the forsight into making things,,that makes life easy, ive bought two lots of lovely elm from big J ,whilst i was busy,(sept-dec),selling logs, and bringing money in,I re-invested it ,into stunning green elm,to turn into, coffee tables etc,,,,,might seem like 2 yrs is a wait,,but in the mean time I`m making stuff from wood I`ve already milled two yrs ago,,,certain things I make are great air dried,,others need longer or kiln dried,,,
