hi mate,,those bits you have sound perfect for making bird boxes /bug boxes etc,,,i`m currently making a batch from some second hand oak floring, and to be honest its a little too good for it, might make up some blanket boxs, as now it prepared, its about 18mm..but afraid it might be too soild and heavy,,,

totally sold out this yr by end of november,,hardwood and softwood,,,,,£80 pe m3 roughly 200 bags,,and the demand is for twice that here,,,,but all our wood is arb waste, or sawmill offcuts,,, another supplier just sold up because he couldnt sell it at £100 m3,,,so £80/85m3 seems about right.....

have you been on the cider all ready mate,,,lol its the jolly farmer,,lol:lol: would be good to catch up and christen the benches proper style,,,, just been given some second hand oak flooring so going to go have a play on what I can think up to use it for,,,,, hope oscar enjoys his rattle, if you need a hand putting your bench together let me know:thumbup:

hi Big J, will stack the rest of your elm up next week, as ran out of time, There was two days making the legs up for the benches,(done before xmas),with two of us, then two days putting them together, to include drawkniving the edges, sanding with a belt sander and angle grinder with a disc on for the edges to get smooth, then a day to oil them all,,,quite a task,,,we also managed two days of tree work, having not been drinking for the month has helped as it kept me motivated, and far more energy,,,any way off down the yard now,,want to finnish my yew wine racks,,,

well been a busy week, dodging the rain, and trying my best to get orders finnished,,finnally finnished the ten benches for the local pub,(in credit for once) also recieved some stunning green elm from big J,,to add to my pile,, and supplied the pub with 20 heart shaped t-light holders,,, and had my first pint havng done no drinking for all jan,,,,(bad idea).

theres turners,,and theres turners,,,,if you sell to turners who are really hobby turners,who dont really sell there products,,you get them offering you a fiver for this& that, (ie wasting your time) etc,,if you sell to people who actually get a return on what they sell because there good at it,,they will offer you better money as they appreciate you as a "contact", looking forward to what you might provide next!!,turners get bad press on here,,,but the good ones ,,r worth finding!!! I buy my timber from big J,,,at greenwood prices, and season it myself for 2yrs + ,,getting an end product worth much more by having the forsight in doing so,,,money well spent,,,,

I`d use the 38mm, this allows for any shrinkage in the timber too!!

brilliant job, (might have been tempted to lay some insulation between the battens, but only my choice) well worth the time and effort:thumbup:

not that tight,,,,,or you struggle to get the empty t-lights out,,,on the bigger ones I use a glass base,,,,,

cheers,,,,,as far as the strength goes,,,there pretty good,,the oak one pictured could be damaged if dropped,as it goes with the grain,,,hence I`m making them mainly with yew, as the grain is tighter and much closer, making it stronger,,, been busy making some more large picnic benches over last two days so havnt had time too finnish the yew ones yet, but will have by weekend,,,,got to go do some tree work tomorrow,,bah humbug,,,lol:001_tt2:
