  1. steves given some good advice,I had various lathes,,my first a rubbish clarke lathe,,vibrated,,madly,,,and annoyingly cheap......bits breaking,,,,,moved onto a union graduate,,,good lathe,,but was only short bed,,and as I cant make a living making bowls as there very time consuming,,I moved to the axminster 950m,,,not a bad lathe but varaible speed handle annoying as I`m left handed and it got in the way,,,so now have a variable speed poolewood 2000 direct drive,,,,,,,the rolls royce are vicmarc and VB lathes,,but there serious money,,,,,,,Yoy cant go wrong with sheffield made record lathes,,,cL4...reasonable priced,,,,,,
  2. have made cedar ones,and there ok once you oil them, as they lose the cedar smell once oiled,
  3. acording to our local council,,you actually need a licence to post flyers,,have to admit was news to me,,?

  10. hi had an enquiry about milling a Oak log near warick! its already been halfed so think it will fit most types of mill, or somebody with an alaskan! pm me if your round that area and fancy a days work,,,,will pass your details on,,as bit too far from me,,,

  12. feed my birds every day, fat balls, peanuts and spare bread etc,,had the pleasure of seeing a barn owl at 5.45 sunday morning,,it flew in front of my truck for a good 200yrds before finding a gap in the hedgerow,and making its way over a gate into open recently ploughed field,,,very gracefull,,,,
  13. top turning,,,,,,nice to see you`ve used this lovely old tree for a good purpose one fitting for it,,,,
  14. now I rarely disagree with you,,but I always wet my timber after 320grit,,,sand again when dry and then 400 grit,,,if its cherry or yew i take it further too 600/800 and sometimes 1200 for a glass finnish,,,, if you sand after oiling it cloggs the grit paper very fast, and even more so when wet,,,,,but each to there own,,,and having seen your walnut wave,,,you seem to be getting it right,,,,
  15. thats the beauty of mushrooms mate,they come in all shapes and forms,,everyone makes them slightly different,,
