  6. final few planks , loads of offcuts to remill, and all the top of the log to make into a chainsaw carved shell, and mushroom tops etc,,, no waste here, by far the biggest tree ive milled, thanks arbtalk ,for putting this tree to a good use,,,,
  7. some more, we used the alaskan to break it down, keeping a few rings for big table projects in the future, then maxed the woodmizer out, in fact had to take it off and make it smaller then try again,,,
  8. heres a few pics al of the beast you gave me, quite a challenge,,,, it was 22ft long 5-6ft round tapering to 4ft,,weighing approx 7ton,,,(i dont have the pics of it arriving on hi-ab)

  10. nice one mate, looks like hazel or alder,,,come on silky,,,,
  11. yes the winch really helps, being a bad back sufferer, I used to dread it, but now its a breeze....
  12. I`d agree with all the above ,but get yourself an alaskan, also,,breaks down bigger logs, but also planks,...best of both worlds,,p.s make sure its got a winch(the alaskan)
  13. sweet....
  14. gray git, lovely work, and at lot of tired hands sanding those mushrooms, I think your prices where very reasonable, I`d have charged about 20% more, this is your job, now if the head mistress was getting paid less than she is,,she`d go on strike! the kids will love it!
  15. wow top tip
  16. nice one mate,,
  17. heres my latest story telling bench before I oiled it, pretty much all bone oak.and various planks,,

  21. go for it and post your results,,,we should start a monthly challenge,,,lol
  22. this was some stuff I put aside to turn ,about four yrs old, and the bark just fell off, having been out to colorado earlier this yr, it inspired me to have a go,,pleased with the results, need to make a bar stool next,,,
  23. they are solid ,,,no movement what so ever,,,,yew is a very hard and dense wood,,,
  24. all depends on where your planting them mate, growth rate, etc, being an x countryside ranger, we used to allow planting of oaks, but as they where in a public area, there was a very big chance of them being damaged, and the customer(family usually) could be prone to being very upset at a later date, something they should be made aware of, saying that 85% of them are doing nicely, if its in a private dwelling then the choice is endless, I`d like a cedar for myself one day,,lol
