Remeber never to walk right behind a tree leave plenty of space and make it sure the ascesor sees you taking plenty of space. Hinddge is important On myy first 31 assesment I cut into my hindge thus failng the course. Just take your time keep cool and youll be fine good luck
  3. Ahh but what oak in scotney? Such a lovely place just moved outa there!
  4. Cheers for the good advice/encouragement steve and ad means alot
  5. 'It' as in tree work
  6. I see what you mean steve but my feeling is why stay in the same place all your life? why see the same drive to your house everyday of every year why drive past the same tree for 20 years to say I done work on that tree why not experiience some different ways of life Ive got massive plans to travel proberly to many ill never cram in and you see Mikes thread on his logging pictures and I think wow I want some of that at sometime why settle for just the same tree in the same country? just my opinion anyhow:001_smile:
  7. Yes I should be in bed I have a driving lesson tommorow too:biggrin: I said on the tesco vs tree work thread last night I think that sometimes I have to slap myself to remind me of my age and not to want everything now I want to be a climber now but college courses that im doing dont allow it etc I have to wake up to my age at times and think that although its frustrating now when im let loose its going to be all so sweeter:thumbup: Sounds like you have been doing ok for yourself now though ady how long you been going at 'it' now?
  8. Quite young realy proberly to old to be up at his late time:sneaky2: !7 mate 18 iun about 6 month
  9. LOVELY!! We run a palax soething or other what is the string about about by the ram/splitter leaver jsut easier to work?
  10. Still cant belive this thread is going! some interesting points being put up on here! My feeling is that you love or hate it blah blah blah everyone else has said it its about risk liefe is about about risk I could go self employed find forestry work and work my tits off for three times the wage im on now. but. would I want that? maybe. Do I need a change? Maybe. Can I afford to risk the change? NO Im to young to do that People my age who do the same apprentership as me say coonstantley about running there own bussiness and each to there own and all that fair play to anyone who makes it but why have the hassle at such a young age I'm personally all about moving abroad finding interesting work different people, different countries... And you only have to look at josharbs thread to see I think that is any young persons dream IMO Good luck everyone though
  11. before last month I was on 25 quid a day ( earnt to little to pay tax) yes im younger but have same amount of exp but I wouldnt change my job for anything I know ive got a carrer ahead of me and an enjoyable one at that. I sometimes forget that I am young and that there is plenty of things to learn plenty of people to work for and plenty of trees to climb sometimes I get fed up of my monney and then I have to slap myself and remeber all the people on here that are older and have childern morgates and things who cant find work.
  12. Should be end of thread after that mozza hit the nail on the head your never going to be a millionaire but you need a love for it I think anyother job would bore me to death bar a few.
  13. some employers may wont a quick climber but im just saying I doubt many will. Why not find work on railway or utility work you said you had correct tickets didnt you?
  14. Speed is only half of it mate theres been numerous threads about climbers vs groundie sort of thing and if you knock the tree down to a mess on the floor the groundie is oging to have a tough time clearing it all up so making the job take longer.
  15. I must admit growing up I never realy had to do anything like this I used to fix my mates push bikes for a few quid from time to time but thats it. My dads always said when he was 15 he was stripping down and building new engines Ive never been taught anyhting like that sometimes I wonder what school was for. Saying that since I started this game Ive learnt quite a bit about tractors so try and relate some of that to cars.
  16. Then what is the point on this thread? You have work theres people without Count your self lucky IMO
  17. Ever thought what its like being a 'newbie' Ive never had to go through half what others have to find work we are all feeling the pinch at the momment but saying you wont get out of bed for £50 a day taking that kind of attitude aint going to get you a job is it. Works work would your rather sit on your behind wacthing jeremy kyle and loose women?
  18. How update the website is I dont know but look on arbjobs There is hundreds of jobs there if you are willing to re locate and like others have said if you have your utility stuff do that theres loads of work out there . With regards to lack of work there are quite a few companies down here that are going bust or severley cutting back on there employees and most are pretty big companies. good luck
  19. I dont like the writting on the stihl hat:glare:
  20. Read through the thread frank:001_smile:
  21. Or even hire a little bobcat type vehicle that should fit through small spaces to take logs out with?
  22. E=TREE-SURGEON-ESSEX;307662] You can put lots of men on a job do it in less time cost more in labour or less men more time cost in time ??. I think that is the ''beauty' of doing this work you need to work out productivity. I can tell you one thing that does rarely work that ive learnt recentley is a higher climber to groundie ratio its a pain for your groundie. Also see if anyone in your local area has a tractor mounted stumo grimnder for thowsse big trees if the access is good it will save alot of time monney and pain!
  23. that was incredible to do 80 foot in 17 seconds wow
  24. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ brilliant
  25. There is a refuse lorry which take almost everything realy that comes up to somewhere near me we have taken loads up instead of oign to the 20 mile trip and its just one bloke up there who works hard for about 6 hours on a sunday and is realy helpful used to give him a tip most of the time as he used to turn a blind eye to some stuff. Then they scrapped it! As it cost to much monney. Councils annoy the hell outa me
