  1. Yep. Done mine. Didn't want to be the one complaining about changes (if they are to be done) if i never voiced my opinion. I suggest others do the same: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WZHXMSP
  2. Ah ok. I only ask as I had a large stand of Salix alba to survey today and there was multiple failures throughout due to a brown heart rot. Just trying to get an idea of what it might be. My first thought was Laetiporus but found no evidence of dessicated brackets anywhere. Jake Andrews
  3. Is the Laetiporus confirmed from previous seosons fruiting David? Jake Andrews
  4. If i was an employee of yours reading this post i would be extremely angry. If you have a successful business then i would assume you couldn't of done it without hard working employees? Yet it appears that they are worthless to you and should try and make a go of it on their own so you are not "financially supporting" them.
  5. Proper Friday fell that. Job'n'knock. Jake Andrews
  6. Hi Liam. Hope your well son. I'm currently doing my Level 4 with Treelife and gone from a l3 to l4. If you want the honest truth...........it is sooooooo much work. More than I anticipated but I can't say if it's worth it yet as I'm still studying but what iv taken from the course has been invaluable. I would just recommend a course with a class session as I would be utterly lost without it. If you want info or ask any questions, private message me and I'll help as best as I can. Jake Jake Andrews
  7. I used to put the footascender under my spikes before I got a spikescender. Had I not got the spikescender free, I wouldn't have bought it and I would still be using the panting. Key is to place the ascended just behind the shank to try and minimise movement. (Worked for me) Jake Andrews
  8. Sure that's not just dog pee!😉 I don't think iv seen slim fluxes occur on a wound that fresh. I wonder what other issues will occur from the damage. Is it widespread or localised to one area David? Jake Andrews
  9. Would this not be calculated as an open cavity?
  10. I can access it Nick. PM me your email address and ill send it over if you like. Im just in the process of trawling through it now.
  11. Thanks Paul. I'll look into that. Jake Andrews
  12. Thanks David. Very interesting indeed. 11% on the compression side of the stem is not a lot but as you say has been heavily reduced. All we need now is for someone to do a PhD on the t/R ratio of reduced trees and come up with a new safety margin. I'm not putting my hand up though😉 Jake Andrews
  13. I would be interested in the t/R ratio David, even though it's not a full crown tree. The hardiness of the decay barriers is also a interesting observation. Have you noticed that before when drilling trees? Would you say that's a limitation of the PD400 or the other drills? Jake Andrews
  14. Good work David. Thanks for sharing. Looks like the tree did as best it could to contain/out grow the decay but unfortunately lost the battle. Out of interest, at what point will the residual wall be to thin on a reduced tree? Taking into consideration the extent of the reduction as well. Did the target value persuade you more in this case? Jake Andrews
  15. Sometimes you cannot get a lift to certain "dangerous" trees and so climbing is the only option. When you do this enough times you become experienced in knowing your own limits and the trees to a certain degree. Just because you wouldn't have done it without a lift doesn't mean it's dangerous for someone else too. It's about experiance and ability, and not necessarily about trying to win a job for cheaper. Jake Andrews
  16. I disagree Mark! I wouldn't have climbed this tree without this piece of PPE. Jake Andrews
  17. Use ratchet straps in places for a strategic confidence booster. In reality they probably do nothing to make the tree any safer but it does wonders for your confidence. Jake Andrews
  18. That's really cool David. The bark plates are really exploding from the new growth. Jake Andrews
  19. Yeh I knew I wouldn't have the discipline to go completely online. The class rooms are very helpful I must say. I will look to do the fdsc online though if I choose that over the l6 next. Just need to choose my next path. Jake Andrews
  20. Ummmmmm difficult question. Iv never felt that I can't ask the lecturer for guidance if iv felt stuck but equally we are encouraged to do the work ourselves. After a first go at the assignment we gather in class and go through our assignments where feedback is given on where we went wrong and what we need to do to improve them. It's a system that works well and where we do the bulk of work ourselves but are given guidance and help at the same time. Jake Andrews
  21. Just doing this now funnily enough. My deadline is Monday to hand it in. Let's just say I'm expecting to have to resubmit the assignment when it's marked. Jake Andrews
  22. I'd have shortened that bolt if it was me Matt😉 bit of an eye opener than one. Top job mate. Nice looking reduction. Good to see some other forms of remedial options too. Jake Andrews
  23. That's quite unusual to see an included union in an old plane like that. Plenty of the new stock trees planted (in bristol) appear to be full of included unions. Jake Andrews
