  1. I have em. And hate em. I will be replacing them when I can. I am thinking of trying a different brand bottom strap to get them tighter. Don't know why they chose such big increments. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. I'd like to believe that it's not a coincidence but finding the connection is the hard part. Possible aeration disturbance from the mulch causing panick fruiting? That is purely off the top of my head by the way. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Oh I have no doubt that the tree had the Armillaria in its system prior our arrival. I was just throwing the question out weather we may have stimulated the fruiting with the mulch. Client is certain that it hasn't fruited before. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Staying David. Very little targets and the tree has been reduce in the past. Very sheltered in its position also. We are regularly in the garden to keep an eye on it and the client loves the tree. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Also had a interesting turn of events a couple of weeks ago. Had an Ash tree with severe die back on one side (the side adjacent a very recent house extension from the neighbours😉) we removed the deadwood so we could review the tree next spring and see if it would retrench further before considering what remedial action should be taken. The soil was also very dry so we added a mulch layer as far as the client would allow us. The following week we get an email with pictures of extensive colonisation of Armillaria around the roots and Base closest the new extension. Client initially thought we had brought in the Armillaria and after lengthy talks and he did his research, he was OK. But just got me thinking about VTA, you can only prescribe what you see. Now then, do you think we may have stimulated the Armillaria with the mulch layer. laying down more food for it perhaps? Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. My first sight of Pholiota squarrosa on a Malus . Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. No dramas. It's what I used before splicing myself a balancer. Also means it's adjustable because you can tie the clove hitch anywhere along the length of the rope. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Tie a fig 8 on a bite leaving a loop long enough for a klemheist. Then tie the klemheist to the rope and on the other end tie a clove hitch to the log. A spider leg with no connectors. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. Hey Paul, Already been contacted by Stephen (he's on the ball and seen the post). I'm just waiting on the second one. Cheers.
  10. Thought that I may have spotted my first Laetiporus in an adjacent field. Hopped the fence for a closer look but unfortunately was just some Polyporus. Still, pretty cool seeing it growing off the log aswell.
  11. Pfffff. Whinger 😉
  12. Good on ya Gary, your positive attitude is great too see. It's not something iv ever thought about before but now a microscope has me thinking I might need one! In regards to your plant pathology library. Do you just have samples that you know are the exact species thus have something to compare samples with?
  13. No worries Paul. Thanks for your reply and hope you had a good holiday. Do you want me to pm you my membership number? I shouldn't be an ordinary member as iv been sent a technician membership card but would be good for you too check.
  14. Hmmmm. I haven't received any yet for this year. Had 3 arb mags from the same quarter sent to me though!
  15. Found this Innonotus dryadeus on a Oak stump yesterday. The tree was removed last year as a standing dead stem and no fruiting body was present at the time.
  16. Literally found one tiny rhizomorph which was odd considering the severity of infection to the trunk. Adjacent to the birch was a dead hazel clump and a dead lawson stump which could be connected. Tried lightly digging the ground to see if we could find anything but nothing to report. My suspicion is that the tree was suffering long before it died. Just not to the untrained eye.
  17. Removed a birch today that had 'suddenly' died over winter. We removed the top just as normal but when cutting through the last 8ft of trunk we were amazed by the radial cracks and the infiltrating mycelium. The discs were very easy to split and snap and the bottom trunk was noticeable lighter in weight than the top sections. Would not have been long before nature would have taken its course and we would have been there on a clean up job. We suspect Armillaria sp to have caused the damage.
  18. Nah just plucked them slightly to know which ones to pull. Yeh home made fids hurt.......but they work!
  19. Well played Joe. Can't believe you managed to keep Mark quiet! Either that or he's plotting his comeback. I used a red pen and marked the green flecks for the first few marks. For the taper I pulled the strands as I counted. Was quite difficult to be honest but I made sure I just doubl3 checked my marks before doing anything. Was chuffed with the result. Used a soft fid from premium ropes to bury the core which worked amazing. Only cost £15 I reckon. Can send you the link if you wanna check it out?
  20. Cheers mate🖒 gave me the buzz again. Haven't spliced anything since Christmas.
  21. PPE Mark. I'm no idiot. I get trashed when doing rigging gear only😉
