  1. That was full on. Very good interesting read though. Seams as though Fomes could be in a lot more places than we think it is.
  2. Would you say this is likely to be in the stem also now? Presumably this would be secondary to the decline of this branch?
  3. That's a great photo of the cross section David. What happened to the back third?
  4. Cheap skate:p Thanks for the offer mate but I'll probably hit up tree kit for their 4srt one for a try. It's pretty cheap and iv got an order to make any way🖒
  5. Fair enough. I quite liked the look of your chesty...................until you said it was crap😂 think I like the thought of a chesty but don't know if it would p me off. I'm currently on the neck tether and have been for 3 years. Maybe time for a change, I'll see.
  6. Can't you just dismantle it and use it for something else Joe? Tenex is always good for something.
  7. Not strictly tree related but I went to westonbirt yesterday and experienced the new tree top walk. Was pretty good with loads of tree facts on offer to the public. It seamed to be themed on educating the general public about trees.
  8. Good thread! If I would have known I would have stuck it in there😳. I'll have to get back for a tap.
  9. Potentially as there are a lot of hazel and field maple as understorey. Mainly old oak as the canopy. If it used to be coppiced it hasn't for a long time. A small Brook that can overflow slightly undermined this tree and probably put to much pressure on the single tension root that had significant white rot.
  10. No I never David. I should have though now you say it for my own personal benefit. the tree must have fallen along time ago as it had moss on the one side and was almost completely covered in ivy. Are fungi geotropic? The fruit body was horizontal with the stem so would have appeared after falling.
  11. A fallen Hawthorn had its protruding root cut off as it must have been blocking the walkway. Interesting to see it starting to callus.
  12. Fallen field maple due to delignified white rot in the roots. Carpet of new shoots aiming skyward toward the woodland canopy hole where the tree once stood.
  13. Found a beauty Ganoderma sp today on a fallen cherry. Growth would suggest food reserves running low?
  14. Yeh Sean, I'd like that. Be great to meet and chat trees with you. Ill contact via pm🖒
  15. 😨 I'm in stockwood Sean! Only a mile away
  16. Yeh Steve. Hitch hiker can be used for both.
  17. The 'surgery' of removing included bark.
  18. Can you expand on this practise Guy? It's not something iv heard of before.
  19. I do now Sean. Came back from a 3 year stint in Australia and came back to Brizzle. You still here too?
  20. I'll be there removing the tree so I'll try and remember to re investigate.
  21. Sorry just realised you refer to coal fungus as Daldinea. Could well be but iv not seen it on Lime before.
  22. I'm not sure tbh, I couldn't get an id on it. Definitely not Kretchmaria so I'm happy for suggestions.
  23. Unfortunately never made the clean up of this one and is now a horse jump. Still would have been an impressive failure.
  24. As you can see the trees are feeling very sorry for themselves, scheduled to be removed in a couple of weeks.
