  1. Did you look around the back of the tree for Meripulus?
  2. I was really disappointed with my C.T I loved it when i was using it but the strap wore through from my Meindl airstreams after less than 12 months. Iv since changed over to the Camp in the last week. Its O.k but early to tell. TBH if this is your first ever foot ascender, then either will see you well. Many of us here though just have a personal favourite but i doubt theres much in it any more. I personally wouldn't go for Petzl new gen. I don't like how small they are and don't have a lock catch as @Mark Bolam said. I prefer the Camp because its very much like the old gen petzl. The hole fits a small tool karabiner to in which allows the gate to lock if you want it to. If you don't, then you can quick clip in and out.
  3. Nice failure on this American Oak?? last week. Tree had a small fb of Kretz on the base but was very difficult to spot.
  4. That's awesome! I agreed to go watch Bristol Rovers v Oxford for the b.inlaws bday not knowing it's on the same day and time as the rugby? I don't even like wendyball that much. Need to try and get through the day without knowing the score to watch it on replay.
  5. Monolithed this sycamore yesterday at an estate we manage. On the other side of the hedge is a busy A road and a not so busy footpath adjacent. Prevailing wind heads towards the road and the site is very exposed. The tree had been vandalised around 3 years ago and the bark peeled off the lower trunk on the right hand side. Flammulina velutipes has colonised the dysfunctional trunk with Armillaria sp. also present but the species unknown. Due to the dysfunctional trunk, the tree has gone into severe decline on the right hand side of the picture and so the decision was made to remove the sail area, although the tree was not a stability risk. Hopefully the trunk will remain standing for quite a few years to come.
  6. P. Igniarius was my first thought David but after looking back through the photos I started to doubt myself thinking it resembled gano. Unfortunately no closer shots as I was in a bit of a hurry but will get some next week. Tree is in severe decline with one stem failure at the base. Think I noticed at least 5-6 fruiting bodies. It will be left to degrade as it is not in harms way and off the main track.
  7. Hey guys. Where are you getting your geology maps and borehole records from?
  8. In the Bristol area have noticed mature trees have significant selective limb dieback. Not all over the canopy but specific selective limbs for no apparent reason.

    Moto GP

Man that is terrible! I used to love watching Nicky in moto gp. Haven't seen much of him since he went to wsbk. RIP Nicky[emoji17] Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  10. I had a mixed show but not all negatives were down to the AA. The layout I found really confusing and felt I was missing a lot of little islands of tents and just didn't flow for me. That being said many others appear to have navigated the site well and perhaps my misjudgements came from one too many 'stump grinder beers' which was lovely by the way. There were some fantastic talks on this year I'm told but I never got to see them as I had the wife and kids with me (not your fault). Next year I'm now looking to come on Friday for the seminars and the Saturday with the family looking at kit. Just didn't feel there was enough time to do both. The atmosphere also appeared to be lacking on Saturday, don't know why just didn't get great vibes from it. Overall I had a better experience last year (in the nice weather) but this wasn't your fault, mostly mine. Oh and the kids loved the zip line[emoji106]🏻 Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  11. This isn't from experience but I assumed airpots basically came in large sheets or off a reel type thing so they can be cut down and fitted to any size pot with the clips? Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  12. Do you have a link or lead too these quals Kevin? are you referring to the CAS mortgage report course?
  13. Sorry I was poorly trying to say that records need to be started somewhere. If the heights were to be recorded, fruiting heights would be the easiest to record and would also encourage more people to add their findings. Colonisation entry is a little harder and invasive to determine😉 Jake Andrews
  14. Hmmmmmmmm[emoji848] Its got to start somewhere. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  15. Is there any form of records in terms of fruiting height and species? Jake Andrews
  16. Unfortunately for this one I'd say around 40%, but that was mainly due to the target area beneath. We left much of the side growth as a Trade off for the top as its a woodland edge tree. The tree shows great vitality with a lot of inner epicormic growth to hopefully take on the new canopy. The client is keen to manage this vital habitat tree which is great so hopefully we can monitor and report back with the results. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  17. Veteranising a poor old Ash today. The tree has a large cavity at 8 meters that extends right through the other side of the tree and we can see daylight. There are a series of further cavities up and down the stem (not as large as the one in the pic) but we suspect the tree is hollow for quite a distance. No fruiting found to be present. The spec was a harsh retrenchment prune due to the (albeit low used) road below. Jake Andrews
  18. Perhaps you could start a thread on spore microscopy? Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  19. That is definitely not the AA's best advertisement is it:001_rolleyes:
  20. A lot of the dangerous scenarios i see (granted i have never seen an actual accident), but i feel its down to poor work positioning. Im no god when it comes to two handed use, but i try my best to get into a solid work position. What i do see many times over is short cuts and laziness.
