  1. I really like the look of these bags. I deliver quite a few dumpie bags to the older generation but I think these would suit the older person even better. They wouldnt have to worry about stacking the logs for a start etc. I reckon doing these type of bags would add more money to the job also
  2. I posted a kindling thread couple of weeks ago and had some positive replies but unfortunately most from suppliers up North. And delivery over such a distance makes it hard for me to make much profit. Would be interested in know, if anyone does, if there are any guys who supply firewood bit closer to Suffolk. East Anglia ideally then I can pick it up. Cheers Ben
  3. Why would people understand though??? We can't really expect them to understand when I'd say 99% of firewood processing is done in/on private ground and away from public eyes. All General Joe Public will see is a tree standing one day and a load of firewood delivered the next. If my customers are quite interested in where their wood comes from and how i cut it etc, its worth taking time to explain it and they'll soon realise £80 a pick a load is good value.
  4. I had some very catchy and pro looking firewood flyers made up and they have paid for themselves 20 times over easy in 8 weeks. I've put them up in any village shop/pub that has allowed me too. There were normally other firewood adverts in there but looked crap when next to mine. Worth taking bit of time and getting a decent desginer to knock some up for you instead of homemade jobbys. I also sell a few nets of logs at top of my drive, we're situated on a very busy main road and these "display" logs work well.
  5. Not much more than B&Q sell 25kgd for
  6. My suppiler has 1000's of tons of salt, might be as useful as a chocolate tea pot mind, we'll see in the morning.
  7. I was think around £6 or £7 a bag. I'll triple my money if i do it at £6, providing i sell it all. Not sure what its like yet though so holding fire until we try it on the farm in the morning. All our yards are like ice rinks so hoping its good stuff
  8. I'm going to pick up 600kg of salt tomorrow to spread all round the farm, if it does the job like its advertised I'm probably gonna buy another big bag to split into 25kg ones and sell to general public. Thought it'd compliment my logs quite nicely. Anyone else sell it?? We rung round all the DIY chains in town today and everywhere had sold out of the stuff:confused1::confused1:
  9. Always forget the search option, will have a look through the arcives , cheers
  10. Just after some advice regarding what chainsaw boots to buy. Currently wear a pair of Stihl rubber boots but find them bit heavy and not right for me really. Ideal need a pair of boots that i can wear all day even if i'm not sawing etc, I work on a farm and often have to rush to load lorries, feed sheep etc etc. As i wont be wearing them everyday like a pro would they have to be reasonably priced etc as cant justify top of the range jobbys!! Any suggestions would be great and websites too thanks
  11. I bought a couple of the Tesco long sleeve Thermal tops the other day and christ they keep you warm!! bargin at £8 a pop. I have a Nike one i wear for footy and the tesco one is much better!!
  12. Sometimes a mans just do what needs doing for his money!! The only problem I've had with collecting money the winter is from a close friend who keeps passing me off when I ask for my £50. That'll teach me for not getting it off him straight away like all my offer customers!!
  13. Conversation i had last week..... phone rings 8.50am me - hello him - its mr x i'd like to cancel the order of logs please me - ooo ok, its 8.50 and im on my way with them (9am was drop off time) thats a bit short notice don't you think. him - not my problem me - ok then pal, before i go was there a problem? him - yeah you were way to expensive, i have got a pick up load coming later for £60 and you were way way to expensive at £80 a pick up. me - shame you didn't say i was too expensive when ordering them, not to worry. just out of interest, is it a double or single cab pick up and what sort of wood you got coming? him - not sure what sort of pick up, why are they different sizes? and the bloke said its a mixed load. me - ok well good luck with that, hope its not a double cab load of freshly cut apple or something similar. good day now
  14. Idea of price? And would you put of a pallet/s and ship to suffolk?
  15. I've realised I have missed a trick and not stocked up with nets of Kindling for my first year at supplying Firewood. Most of my customers have asked me for a bag or 2 when I have dropped their logs off etc. Does anyone on here supply pallet loads of netted Kindling?? Or anyone have any numbers/emails/websites for guys(or girls ) for suplliers. Seen a couple of guys on Ebay who supply 50/100 nets on a pallet but wanted to ask on here first. Any help would be great Thanks again
  16. Stuck a few bags off Oak off cuts up top of the drive today and they sold straight away, helps being a main A road i suppose Few extra Christmas pints tonight I think
  17. £60 is way to cheap buddy, you are doing yourself out of another £20/£30 really.
  18. Did 3 pick up loads today, and another 3 orders this morning. Hopefully fit them in before christmas. 3 pick up loads lined up for tomorrow and a 4 buliders bags Weds. And all by hand Busy Busy.
  19. Why is the franchise bit a joke? Not being funny I'm just keen to know peoples thoughts as its something that interests me. I never said buying an area though.
  20. This is what you want It was on a trade stand at SIMA Show, Paris, earlier in the year
  21. I looked into gritting recently via a big gritting company who advertised in the farmers weekly. There is potential there to earn some good money but initial investment is quite high. You sort of buy a franchise off this gritting company. The chap I spoke to had all contracts sorted this year apart from Portsmouth and South Birmingham. I'm hoping to look into it again more seriously next summer with winter 2010/11 in mind.
  22. A farmer where I get some wood from is building a traditional oak beamed barn at the present moment in time. The oak beams are amazing, huge great bloody things. Oak out of his own wood too. Going to use oak for window ledges and door/window frames etc. He has already replaced all the window frames in the farm house and had them remade with his own timber. Fascinating chap and farm, would be a dream to have money to play like that.
  23. Only went in Pub in Honington once, ventured into the one in Troston bit more for food etc as 30sec min walk from farm yard!! I met DH few weeks ago at Stanningfield where I was carting his sugar beet. Where abouts are you North of the BOarder?
  24. Yeah i think i make bout £20-£25 extra by doing 2 bags instead of one pick up. Am selling bulk bags easy at £55 but people are reluctent to pay much more then 80/£85 for a pick up.

I know its worth more but would rather have the customers now and increase money next year maybe.
