  1. all good points steve. the guy on Riko stand was fairly sure there are still a few grants around, and i'm going to look into a few trust funds local to me and who are keen to support young farmers. safety is key factor for me, and my saw bench i have right now isnt great on that front, hence why im looking at a new processor.
  2. can you buy say 100 nets already made for him, he sells them on and you go 50/50 on profits? i use to make kindling out of pallets when i was at school but was slow and dangerous! hats off to him though for wanting to earn some doe himself
  3. Anyone run one of these machines? I'd be very interested in any views, good or bad, anyone may have on the machine as I looked at one at LAMMA today and was impressed by it. Thanks
  4. Billy, i'd be interested in knowing how you've got on with the Riko, I was at LAMMA today and had a good look round the wp36 and wp30. was very impressed with them. regarding the price, the guy on the stand was quoting a starting price of around 6k....?? and around 7 for the one that had a couple of extras. at that sort of money im seriously interested.
  5. haha only just seen the date!! how'd this thread come on recent stuff then?
  6. hullsmill and gensteve are both great kindling suppliers, i'd suggest buying more then 80 at a time though mate
  7. andy, welcome to the forum mate. i use to sell, nets of logs and kindling at the top of my drive when i was still at school. it worked well and ment i didnt have to rely on parents to help me deliver etc. stick with the poplar if its dry, your more likely to source it cheaply and make more cash although dont be tempted to sell it dry its bone dry!! we burn it at home and burns lovely, doesnt spit at all
  8. i very very nearly bought an l200 king cab tipper, in the end i got a standard king cab and ifor tipper, more versatile and handy for my usage cracking truck by the way andy
  9. we're in the HLS and our woodland advisor has never told us to fell anything and just leave it there. he is all for leaving dead wood standing (whilst safe) for as long as possible. off the top of my head i dont think its a actual requirement for ELS or HLS managed woodlands but then i havent read the manual for 2012 yet
  10. criminal that! we're currently restoring an old Farm Orchard and the advisor has been very good to us. Any decent weed trees coming out are being kept for firewood (sycamore and some thorn), stuff we dont want is (elder and small willow) is being cut to length and then stacked for creatures to make home. We have been encouraged to bring in dead wood from else where on the farm if we want more dead wood on the floor in the Orchard
  11. i make my own fired rice, boil rice first, then cool it down under a tap, put in fridge for half hour then wack in a steaming hot pan with couple of eggs
  12. no thanks, jcb loaders god awful machines on farm imo!
  13. we tried the claas and merlo on demo this time last year. i fancied both to be honest! but the decision came down to merlo being 1000's cheap!!
  14. yeah it does, and its a cracking loader. new last march and hasnt missed a beat. to be fair its not worked that hard, but does far bit of road work harvest time and is loading grain lorrys all day most days in summer. we use it every day around the farm as we only have one tractor normally. tows well. cab is a bit basic, but then that doesnt bother me, compared to claas or manituo
  15. 6 years ago i had a 3 motnh harvest in Oz lined up and bottled it as a result of a relationship problem. i have regretting that decision everyday for six years. now me and my girl are planning on a 2 month trip to NZ next christmas time. I CANT WAIT!
  16. Just looking through some old pictures of mine and came across this one, was taking at an Enduro event couple of years ago with my 2 best mates. One is married now and has a little girl and another has moved out of Suffolk, but we still all keep in touch. Think the pic sums up the day, great fun no worries and great company
  17. Shall be at Lamma on the first day, look forward to having a look around. What stand number?
  18. No worries Wally, not a problem at all. I was busy on the farm today, so I've shown my bro your message as he processed and delivered for me today. Many thanks
  19. My american neighbours had a load of logs delivered last year in a Landrover crew cab! the back seats were down apparently and the whole truck full of logs even the passenger seat and foot well!!!!!!!
  20. been very very quiet start to the new year, just couple of loads to get done. farmer just up the road has just put a sign outside his yard selling seasoned firewood for £60 a load!! another bloody cheap firewood is all i need!
  21. I had nr 30t couple of months back and was £55t delivered. Im near Clare, Essex Suffolk boarder. If the wood was bit closer woould of been £50t delivered.
