Maybe but then you've got three metal components in a row, any twist could create some nasty torque. I'll try it and see though. Cheers

Also, if you make a mini footloop with a croll, some bungee and a sling, your hands are free to do whatever you want. Once you get the technique and posture, you won't even need to use your hands to keep you aligned.

I think Ewan means having the bolts countersunk with flush heads. To do that I'd imagine would need much thicker and therefore more bulky side plates. Personally I never use LOTS with the wrench, just my left hand underneath to advance it, Some people find this awkward I know but the main thing is to position your hand to gain the most leverage, i.e. right at the back of the wrench on the tether.

Bit of a derail but I use a 21cm dyneema, girthed onto the shackle. I'd like to try to put on a 7cm cut away I have but can'f figure out how to attach it without removing the shackle off the LJ, plus I don't have one of those weird three pin tools for it.

That would be good. You may have to tend in a similar way I do witht the wrench. Pull slack up through the hc, let it self tail through the sj

No idea, I'll try the hc with my weight tomorrow, and if it goes well, maybe try with Ian's sj on saturday

Scrap the hitch part, use a hc with a krab in each of the two end parts, clip both into the dyneema bit of the sj. It has a lot of friction on a test pull, but I'll wait until tomorrow to put my weight on it.

No..I remember a few years back when they were doing a big research project on pseudomonas, they got in contact with someone I know asking loads of questions and could they look at their trees. As soon as he did they were rather aloof and didn't seem interested anymore

using two krabs and a hitch on top but with the krabs arranged differently so as to offset the hc from its intended working position. If that makes sense?! It doesn't quite make sense in my head at the moment, I'll have to try it!

Just had a thought about using a hc set up the wrong way, I'll put it together and try it.
