  1. Nice one. I got 8 minors on mine. Two for not checking my blind spot although I did! Have the insurance demons devoured your life savings yet?
  2. If I sort mygrinder out then I only need two sizes! I'll have to start being able to guess the chain gauge and pitch and type now. Very steep learning curve in this game!
  3. Well I have adverts out already after domestic tree jobs but I'm in two minds about adding a couple of lines or making a separate advert! I have a grinder which needs the fan as it got dropped so currently I'm using a guide bar mounted sharpened. But I actually prefer using that although it takes longer. For the depth gauges I use my dremel with a stone and the guage tool from stihl. It's a good combo! Maybe even a sign on the road outside?
  4. I had that in mind, people who are qualified for the saws will do it themselves and if anything goes wrong they will go to their dealer. Im still earning carb and engine stuff as im teaching myself, looking to even buy old saws from ebay, tidy them up and sell them on and hopefully make a few quid on it. ive done both of these without a compressor, as our packed in a few weeks ago and we are yet to buy a new one, having to use brake/clutch/part cleaner for now and a brush and a towel, working well as the cleaner evaporates. But never as good as a compressor!
  5. Just came in from putting mine and my dads old saw back together, cleaned them up well and gave the exhausts a little opening up and a lick of paint, the 039 needs redoing, muppet here decided to put laquer on it, forgot about the heat properties, melted it all and now its covered in bits of wood. IM thinking of starting up doing chainsaw servicing for local people, get some ads out, what do you think i should charge for: 1 saw clean and sharpen 1 saw clean and sharpen more than one chain more than one saw? im thinking of charging by the hour?
  6. do you think he has even used a flight of stairs for their actual purpose?
  7. i found that a 4 wrap 3 braid works well on the yale 13mm ropes with 8mm OP, i prefer the security of the system over the fluidity, although its still nice to use, i can be sure it will always bite, i weigh 11st and im confident in the system, but each to their own
  8. I always found the pre sewn e2e length to b too long. So I buy my own sand cut it. So much easier. I'll be trying the 42" method though!
  9. It depends how badly the rookie gets the tree hung up! I needed it once on my training. Ed: sounds like a plan. Could use my dads navara as I'm insured to drive that and I'm used to it with a trailer aswell
  10. Youwill probably benefit more by getting your b plus e as not many people my age have it. So it would be a massive advantage over other young people. I'm saving up to do mine ATM but it's 600 Inc training and test
  11. im surprised it wasnt done with duct tape and glue! maybe he wanted a 20" bar but only had two 15" so had a brainwave?
  12. i wouldnt use your landy though ed im looking to do my B+E, with local jobs requiring a trailer to be towed that exceeds my licence, it makes it awkward, soemtimes ive just done it myself, ive driven a tractor with a large trailer, a car and trailer is actually easier! i would choose B+E and chipper, you are trained in 31, may aswell get some practice or some use out of your kit before you can get your assessment again
  13. there will be schemes and other things out there, but as mentioned above they will just be obscure and have odd requirements like you must have webbed feet or an iQ of exactly 123
  14. even though planes can handle more compaction than other species, that is just not acceptable:thumbdown:
  15. Yeah as James said you have to organise the folders on your computer and then when syncing the phone click the photo tab and click sync photos. You can then choose which folder eg my pictures and then all the folders in there you can choose all of them or select folders. The ios 4 is an improvement on previous versions. There are more useful features such as you can organise apps into folders. They are good pieces of kit if you use them well!
  16. I wouldn't give them a penny. They obviously aren't repairing the saw as you asked. Are they even qualified to do so? Are there any other places you could take it?
  17. yeah because i wouldnt have been able to do the back cut properly, that height meant the saw would actually have enough room to get between the tree and the shed, with me still being able to hold it. that was actually my first domestic job, i look back on it now and i do see many flaws that day.
  18. I did actually nearly bring the hedgecutters (I mean forgot to pack them but same thing!) . But I could have done with some some secateurs on that job. Everything was as thin or thinner than my little finger and I had a zubat to do it with! The odd leader to do but that was 3-4 strokes with the zubat and it was done. I found the job quite therapeutic actually. As it was a nice day and nice weather and It was all done before 11! Would have been more fun as a takedown though. Got another job through the customer so happy days
  19. I would have preferred removal. But that what they wanted. Didn't want to leave it as a square top so left it staggered like that. I didn't have another rope with me unfortunately and it was only a a central point to keep my balance. The ladder was the best access to a good standing point which even that was crushing my feet. Worked with what I had to do. Customer was happy so why should I complain?
  20. I have used ZAGG invisibleshield for 3 years nearly now. First on my iPod and then on all my iPhones. £15 for a full body cover that you really can't scratch and it comes with a lifetime warranty. I had an issue an went through 7 on the front of my phone. It was a dodgy screen I think as I had that replaced and I put one on after and it was fine. They make them for all sorts of devices. Pricey but worth it I think.
  21. its still cheaper than a new one! If you smash the screen on your iphone you can book an appointment at the genius bar in the apple store and you pay £139 and they give you a replacement, you give them your smashed one and they swap it for a new one out of a brown box, my dad has had 2 new ones this way., he stood on one, then ran over the next! Both within a month! I find the iphone to be the easiest to use, it has so many capabilities especially with all the apps available. Im looking to upgrade to the iphone 4 in the next month or so! Ive been brave enough to take my phone up the tree a few times, i have a camera lens case with a very secure velcro strap that fits snugly on my sequoia and i can fit two phones in there and t zips up, plus it is padded so its great. Ive had every model so far bar the newest, ive had a few warranty replacements (dust under the glass) but ive always been careful and when ive upgraded ive given the preivous to my girlfriend so we both have one. WE must look sad in public places!
  22. id be worried about your mate, what was he searching for to find that!
  23. i think they do also, they are persistent in the winter on common alders, italian alders and grey alders to my knowledge!
  24. I've got a job in the works that has a sycamore that is stressed (pointed out by Hama in my picture thread the other week). It wants a 10% reduction, deadwood removal and a root feed. What would be the bees practice during the reduction and deadwooding? I don't want to induce further stress to the tree but also I'm struggling to judge how much deadwood I need to take out as some tips are dying back but still have little leaf area. Help would be appreciated! Thanks
  25. I believe alders produce catkins. Being in the betulaceae family
