  1. no its meant to sit outside, it sits flush with the end of the truck as it is now, its just a little bent on one corner so it needs sorting. When i can be bothered!
  2. i remember that hedge! i like the last pic. But, HOW ON EARTH did you manage to get chip in your cab, are you turning it into a wildlife habitat?
  3. Its not a definite point made by someone, its the way i see it from reading about it and doing it too. dont quote me on this, but from my very limited time in this industry, after reading what shigo has said about pruning cuts and looking at different diagrams, the cuts are aimed to provide the smallest surface area for the tree to occlude and also to use CODIT to wall off the decaying branch material. In a way its creating one wound as oppose to lots and lots of small wounds through the cambium
  4. I certainly do as good as I can without taking all day to do one. As much as a pruning cut is a wound, it's meant to be a less harmful wound than a few spikes up and down the tree The afag/bog roll reference was because it seems like who did the work didn't know best practice. So the afag guides may aswell have been toilet roll!
  5. Well they are designed for moving sheep! You are in a landy though. Thats probably still making you look like a farmer! What do you mean by the ladder rack? The bars over the outside?
  6. These trees were in a school field. I could see the lime carrying on without hitch. Justba few battle scars. There may be a chance to trace back to the company who did the work. Steve you are right. I don't know the facts. But a few trees on the same field had similar works. But I only had a closer look at these two as I had a few spare minutes and wanted to have a gander. I know there is sweet FA that we can do about things like this. Best practice and getting the professionals in to do a proper job are things people don't take into consideration as much as they used to IMO
  7. Wait till the chain stops before you move the saw. It's a shock when you are too hasty to do a top cut and as you draw the saw out it tries to kickback!
  8. yeah, designed them myself and got them printed onto magnets, £35 for a pair, im pleased with them!
  9. Not that i want to break any forum rules here, but whilst working in the tractor yesterday, i noticed these trees, a lime and a horse chestnut, the chestnut isnt in a good state, and has had some crown raising done, im not against that and the cuts seem ok, but they seem to have used spikes! Its the same story with the lime, with some impromptu fracture pruning by the looks of it too! The chessie had a really bad case of bleeding canker, brown/red goo coming out of a couple of points in the bark.
  10. im jealous. Ive bought a box off ebay for mine. It was raining outside so i took a photo from my bedroom! Ifor williams ally box, the guy didnt have the bolts to fix it so rachet straps were the order of the minute. i think its bent on the front right corner as it doesnt want to sit down properly, nothing a gentle tap with a mahoosive hammer wont fix! oh, and it cost £9.99!
  11. 4th September. Count me in for a day on that! Kendal is about an hour and a bit away. Perfect location! Would anybody care to show me some SRT setups on the day? I can never get my head round a drawing or photo!
  12. I was planning to do that with the big one if I use that. I'm on good terms with the guy who owns it. Plus he owes us half a tank of red diesel for the tractor. So there's a good chunk saved. Has want about £60 for a day so 20% off that would be a good saving. I what I'm cutting off is mainly on it's limit fir the little chipper so I'd rather use the bigger one
  13. I was thinking has butvthey want nigh on £100 for 2 days with a 55mm chipper. Its a last resort. I don't need a big one for the job I've got on. There is always shades of green near Runcorn but I think they only do bigger TW. I can hire a 12" pto timberwolf for £80 per day. I've got a tractor that will run it and has done before. If I really need one I can use that. It's a shame places don't hire out more of a range of chippers. But I spoke to one guy and he said every time it came back it was battered and abused
  14. Stihl all the way for everything if I can. Then if something ain't right there's only one place to go! I've been told no more than a few weeks. If my saws are left half full for over a week I empty the fuel out.
  15. I would also be interested in one of these for a day or maybe two. Mike could you by any chance pm me if you get the price through? It would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Northern means north england not Scotland Any ideas for a date?
  17. you beepy beep beeeeeep beep!
  18. i however, do have it on steam! i lvoed playing the single player with godmode on run through hordes of zombies with the chainsaw running and you manage to make a mess!
  19. M62 by Huddersfield. I couldn't believe it. Copper must have had a good night with the mrs the night before!
  20. i had this, i was doing 80 down a dual carrigeway and a guy was stood at the end of a straight and he was there in a hi viz jacket down a junction. He pointed to me and signalled to slow down, i did after he told me and he just gave me a thumbs up and i carried on. More coppers like that please. My dad was pulled by an unmarked on the m62 doing 101 and got let off, he gave a good story and we were in a hurry at the time to get somewhere, very lucky that day!
  21. I followed samisens directions by inserting at Mark c. I had got the cover all the way through to where it is in the pic. It's difficult to near impossible to get it to go past the core still in the rope. A wire fid and a pusher of some sort will help me next time. I won't let it beat me!
  22. I don't know of I've caught any. I think it's just because it's a tube fid and it's quite tightly woven so there's almost no room to squeeze the fid down. I just want to get it out so I can try again with a wire fid. I'm gutted as I had my head around what to do aswell!
  23. Looks like I'll be investing in some tools from treeworker. What about that splicing wand? Bit expensive mind! @sjb I thought that I may aswell make a nice easy big accessible gear loop. Thinking about buying some more small biners and putting them on for floating attachment points. @Peter. I'll have a go tomorrow. I'd been battling with the 16 strand for about 3 hours and had done a splice before that. So after about 5 hours of splicing my hands had lost all dexterity! Here's a pic to show where I got stuck on 16 strand. Spot the fid poking out! I can't get it out. Might pull it all and try again with a wire one when I get some.
  24. Made a full loop for on my harness struggled with the final bury. Couldn't quite get the crossover to sit inside the throat of the splice. Had a go at 16 strand. What a nightmare! Got about at inch past where the core comes out after feeding the cover back in and it's so tight I can't even get my fid out. I use a tubular one. Is a wire one much better I'm guessing? Would love to do one of nods courses!
  25. Mr policeman says "so mike, how exactly did you manage to destroy all this property?" Mike says "well I thought there was a wasp nest inside one o' me logs and was told that it's probably just them collecting nest materials. Not taking any chances I poured brake fluid and ep90 on it and dropped a match on it. Not realising I was inside and near a vehicle as I left the scene. That's when I started running and knocked the acetylene near the flames. And we now stand were the doors used to be."
