  1. If you decide to go ahead with courses you're as well to do PA6 AW, it costs no more than PA6 but gives you a bit more scope for work.
  2. What effect does atomising the product too much have? Increased drift and so patchy coverage?
  3. Good on ya Big J! Nothing like a dog at your side for company. Feels good to rehome one that's not had the best start too doesn't it? Here's to your long and happy relationship
  4. After 2 days going round in circles with the Micron Ulva+ on another site i've got a mistblower on hire as of tomorrow - problem solved hopefully. I don't think there's enough of the growing season left to brushcut and spray, so thanks for the offer of extra hands but I should be ok I think. For future reference and potential beerage though i'm about an hour North of Inverness near Bonar Bridge
  5. What time of year did you brushcut it and how long did you wait before spraying the re-emergence?
  6. Is it not too late now to brushcut AND spray this year though Matt? Surely there wouldn't be enough time for the fronds to re-emerge after cutting? Would they be able to get big enough to spray before becoming senescent? Have just sprayed about a hectare on similar ground for some friends and it was damn near impossible!
  7. Great to see! Aahhh...... one day......
  8. :scared1:
  9. Same here - but then that's the Highlands for you! I look after 700ha about 3 mins drive from my door. I can lie in my hammock in the lime trees beside the house with a beer and watch the sunset over it after a days graft At the other extreme I was on Skye working last week - 4hrs there in the morning and 4 hrs home again the next day! Money was good though, couldn't say no. If the numbers stack up i'll always travel for work, plus it's good craic to get the truck tooled up and head off for a couple of days somewhere new.
  10. Keep it up lads! About time I did this too....
  11. Spoke to Doug today - love it when a plan comes together. Thanks for hooking me up! He says to phone him for a blether, said he's often wondered how you're doing. Him: "how'd you know I hire out bikes?" Me: "errr Stephen Blair suggested you" Him: "Stevie Blair from Ayrshire?" Me: "Aye" Him: "Bloody hell! How's he doing these days? An affy nice boy is Stevie...." First impressions still count for a lot up here.
  12. Cheers Mr Blair will look them up Monday.
  13. Cheers for all the info boys. Plan is to get trees in the ground on the site next year, so as much as i'd like to run cattle followed by pigs on it, it's not going to happen. Crushing with a roller out due to the planting plan/timescale too. Helicopter's out as the site is just accross the road from a bog which is a SSSI, the site itself is known for Pearl Bordered Fritillary (butterfly) and has a pretty interesting wildflower understorey too, dog violet, bluebell, primrose, bugle, etc, so burning's out too. Too steep, rocky, stumpy for a quad to manage. Matt: could've/maybe should've subbed it, but the site's just along the road and I want to maximise the profit on it, ie do it myself. I've got the tree planting contract for the site next year too (only 3500) and was concerned that if a subby didn't deliver on time it'd throw the schedule out for that too. Wish me luck - i'm going in!!
  14. Anyone know where I can hire a quad bike and flail mower to tow behind it in the Inverness(ish) area? Thanks.
  15. Thanks for all the info so far guys. I'll be using Asulox and Mixture B as recommended by another contractor locally. The site is pretty steep in places, with a couple of rocky outcrops, and plenty of fallen down stonewalls, ditches and old stumps under the leaf litter. I really picked a belter to cut my teeth with huh!?! Don't think it's doable on anything but my own two feet TBH. The bracken is head height for the most part and thick as can be too.... You can tell i'm really looking forward to it can't you!?! Any more pros and cons for CDA vs knapsack, i've been looking at the "micron ulva+ bracken pack" (google and you'll see) - has anyone used it? Ta
  16. Have 2 1/2 hectares of bracken to spray and have never done it before, so ANY advice gratefully received! First question though: should I go with the tried and tested knapsack method, or go down the Micron Ulva + CDA road? Which are you using and why? Thanks.
  17. Thanks very much all! Andy: you're right about the hi viz, have found some amazing crawlies on my vest recently, the best was a scalloped hazel in caterpillar guise, it looked just like a tiny twig! Dave: that makes for interesting reading, ta very much. In my (in)expert opinion i've a feeling it's definately bracken related. The more I read about it the more i'm starting to dislike the stuff!! Ray - aloe vera's the one, thanks a lot. It's the only thing that's had any effect on it. Porky - had a nasty hogweed encounter a while back, but it gave me blisters like i'd been burnt?! Don't think it was that this time. Thanks a lot fellas.
  18. Doing a lot of forest path maintenance at the moment - strimming etc. Tonight a rash has appeared all over the backs of my hands, it looks similar to nettle stings but more severe and kind of weepy (though that may just be from scratching it as it itches like mad!) I wore gloves as usual all day today, but it was raining and they were fabric backed so got soaked through. Could this be caused by bracken? Any help appreciated.
  19. OSMO oil for finished pieces or a mix of gum turpentine (the proper stuff!) and linseed oil for anything rough finished like cladding etc. Not 100% on how effective the OSMO is when it comes to prolonging colour without greying though - time will tell. When colouring the wood is not a problem and you want max durability "Varnol" is the only way....!
  20. Trust Insurance get my vote too - I've gone with them for my truck insurance, the Mrs car and my public liability.
  21. Bought 50l of this a while ago, will let you all know how it goes.
  22. Watch out for the VAT on 'em though! BF GOODRICH TYRES / 4X4 / BF GOODRICH ATKO ALL TERRAIN BFG AT KO - 235/75R15 104S RWL TL :: £101.00 :: 4x4 Tyres - SUV Tyres - All Terrain Tyres - Off Road Tyres - 15" :: R15" - 235/75/15, 235/75 R 15 :: £101 INCLUDING VAT I think 235 75 15 is standard size for a Ranger too (or it's what mine was wearing when I got it anyway) so shouldn't change your drive either.
  23. Try Camskill or John Craddock Ltd on tinternet. Not sure where you've seen 30x10.5x15 though as that's not a standard size. Did you mean 30x9.5x15 or 31x10.5x15? If you're running the old style Ranger with the 2.5TD lump it'll just take 31x10.5x15 without having to do anything else, they'll give you a touch more clearance under the diffs and make the speedo read spot on too.
  24. WHOA!! Amazing....
