  1. A couple of us up here were thinking about joining the 4x4 Response Network. They've got branches all over the country. From what i've read they did a lot of good work last winter when the emergency services got stuck. There are plenty of folk on here with some pretty capable vehicles - what d'ya think?
  2. Yup, cue the scary music and watch for the ensuing panic!
  3. Don't be daft come on in!
  4. Treequip - you're probably right!!
  5. Will def. be watching the rest of the series. Me planting on Skye in March of this year
  6. He's the same. What is it about hedgehogs though? Guess it's because they're spiky and therefore off the menu. Dog: "If I can't eat it i'll scare it to death by barking at it!"
  7. Yeah, expect so! It's funny, he's a big sop anyway but bl**dy hell does he make some noise when he's unsure about something. Still, he got a biscuit and a big fuss for his efforts either way. He's strutting about the place just now looking proud of himself:laugh1:
  8. Just heard my dog out the back going mental. It was the "I don't like you and i'm going to eat you" bark. Legged it outside torch in one hand.... errr... feather duster in the other.... to find him throwing himself at the fence right beside the shed next to where my truck's parked. Who were the potential thieves he'd cornered? Two hedgehogs! Still, nice to know he's on the ball:001_smile:
  9. StevieMac Just had a look at your website and you live just along the road from where I used to stay near Winewell. You don't run about in an old desert/tigerstripe looking Land Rover Series do you? Used to see it about all the time and always wondered who's it was.... used to get overtaken by a nutter on a pushbike on my walk to work with two chainsaws hanging ninja style off his back talking to himself too - ring any bells...? (sorry for thread derail!)
  10. Hook line & sinker....
  11. Gotta love Arbtalk - cheers boys I haven't laughed so much in ages Tommer I owe you a dram
  12. Errr.... right.... aye.... .... gotcha.... I'll just get my coat (hides Claymore behind back sheepishly and tries to walk off casually)
  13. Sorry, is only having an estate in the Highlands some sort of consolation prize for them? If they perceive that it is, and their attitude is that of the so many (often absentee) landowners up here - perhaps they should've sold it instead! :wtf:I think it's bang out of order that for so long the Highlands has had it's landscape degraded and it's people displaced by the wealthy few who come to abuse the place twice a year as their own private playground. You think what's been forced on the rich is a shame - a local history lesson on what the locals had forced on them up here would show you where the shame lies....
  14. Good on ya
  15. Now for something completely different! Just been introduced to theses guys.... wait for the ultimate feelgood chorus.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtH8m_i8O7k]YouTube - Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Janglin[/ame] Fantastic!!
  16. Blatant favoritism! No freebies with my order the other day:hmmmm2: Kidding! I'll second the thumbs up for good service - ordered one day delivered the next, sound advice over the phone too. Cheers Clarks i'll be buying again.
  17. Just watched the other one suggested (top left) -MY PALMS ARE SWEATING......
  18. Quote from the vid at 2 mins 30 secs: "Attaching, climbing, attaching and removing safety lines every few feet slows progress and is tiring." How about: "Attaching, climbing, attaching and removing safety lines every few feet slows progress but means you get to go home to your wife and kids in one piece at the end of the day and spend your hard earned danger money, instead of ending up raspberry balmanged 1700 feet below and going home to them in a placcy bag...." Mental!
  19. I expect you were a beginner once too.... Other than sitting about waiting for divine inspiration how else do you learn if not by asking questions? Maybe you did - don't take it out on the newbies though.
  20. I use Alt-Berg Leder-Gris Original it's easily the best, but is only suitable for leather. Might try the "extreme" stuff over winter too.
  21. Was told the same as above when I did my ticket - instructor recommended a quick pass over each tooth at every fuel stop or two. As posted in another thread, i've just bought one of these to improve my sharpening. First impressions are good - it certainly works and isn't nearly as fiddly as it looks. I whack a stump vice in and sharpen thoroughly at the end of every day, I always top up fuel and oil too so the saw's all ready to go in the morning.
  22. In an effort to improve my sharpening I just bought an Oregon Filing Guide from the nice folk at Clark Forestry (thanks guys). It arrived yesterday. I'd was planning a wee write up for yous but the Mrs is away with the camera. I guess it's maybe a bit too much of a newbie tool for some, but so far i'm well pleased with how it performs.
  23. We've recently moved into an old one bedroom stone cottage we're renting. Just one open fire, no central heating - you can imagine the amount of wood we're getting through! Have got a WindySmithy burner out in the shed waiting to go in though - happy days.
  24. Yeah, see your point . Ignore me....
