  1. Like masterh said - anything with glyphosate in the ingredients list.
  2. Pretty much all we burn up here is birch, larch and pine. Plenty of it around, cheap and easy to come by. It's true to say you have to feed the fire more often, but as long as it's dry it's no bother. Can think of much better things to do with oak, ash etc than burn it tbh.
  3. This always puts me in my place when i'm wound up, it's on our wall at home: To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget. - Arundhati Roy
  4. I've just got a new Husqvarna 343r and am well happy with it. Seems to be the standard issue, do it all, medium size machine up here at the moment. Although not a dedicated clearing saw i've been bashing whins and clearing small trees with it for the last couple of weeks and it's been great - not as thirsty as I thought it would be either. Next size up is Husky 345fx or Stihl fs450 (both +0.2hp bigger) All depends how big you need to go really.
  5. Phone these guys HighWater Scotland provide a one stop solution for private water supplies What they don't know you could write on the end of a match
  6. Have never heard it called Scotch Pine up here myself, but we do call them "Callies" as in Caledonian - not sure if that's just a colloquialism though....
  7. Husqvarna Type A Class 2 - bought for winter use as they were on sale locally. No real complaints. Warm as they're class 2 - but that's the reason I bought them. Stood up fairly well to the dreaded sitka last winter - and owing to the amount of sap they're full of as a result, are now pretty water resistant too! I would say though that the material in the arse of them is pretty thin, so expect that's what'll do for them in the long run - another reason not to spend too much time sitting down....
  8. Is this still available? Am really interested in this as i'm making a yurt at the mo' (hence my other posts looking for hazel etc) - if there's any chance you'd consider putting it by 'til I could collect or preferably letting me sort out a courier i'd be really interested. Let me know eiter way....
  9. A guy up my way has his yew priced at £1500 - £1900 + VAT per cu m, it's the most expensive timber he sells. It's planked and kiln dried mind - his green sawn is less about 20% as far as I know. Where abouts are you?
  10. Cheers for that one phirow, problem is there's little coppice up this far North in all honesty. Think I may have it sorted now though.... will let you know. £40 for an hours walk in the woods - sounds like easy money csservices!
  11. Pound for pound the meanest animals on the planet - truly amazing. I was whiling away my evenings on Skye a couple of months back (was over there planting trees), reading a book by Sir John Lister Kaye who set up Aigas field centre. In it he talks about his first Scottish Wildcat sighting in the 70s - it was only in the very bloody woods I now look after not 400 yds from my house!! Needless to say i've spent a LOT of time looking for them since - needless to say i've not seen one either. If these beasties don't want to be seen they just disappear.... Brilliant to know they're around though. They reckon now the biggest threat to these moggies isn't loss of habitat or persecution, it's interbreeding with domestic cats.
  12. Go on admit it - the soundtrack was your favourite part wasn't it....!
  13. Anybody got any hazel for sale still? I know it's out of season for coppicing but thought i'd ask in case anyone's still got some cut and sitting around. Am looking for 120ish at 7ft long 1-1.5 inch diameter. Am pretty far away form most of you (Highlands) but sure we can sort something out. Have also posted a wanted over in the trading place too. Ta.
  14. Scratch that, just realised I did't post the bar type or what saw it was running on and have subsequently found the Husky catalgue.... doh! Problem solved.
  15. Just spat my porridge all over the monitor reading this...... class......!
  16. Hi all, couple of quick questions, Am about to order a ripping chain for a 20" bar and see it's priced per link. How many links do I need to order for a bar this size? What pitch and gauge should I be ordering? I spoke to Rob a while ago, but as far as I know he's away just now. Anybody know? Ta.
