  1. These guys always seem to have a few for sale, found them through Autotrader when I was looking to buy a wee while ago. Used Car Sales in Bedfordshire - Samys Car Sales Ltd - Used Cars No links with them, and no idea what they're like - anyone on here dealt with them?
  2. Really appreciate the advice on this. It's caused me no end of grief - mental note to self "axes are sharp...." You fellas have given me way more advice than I got during and after the event from GP/hospital & physio combined! Will get cracking with the exercises ASAP. This thread has really spurred me on to start paying more atttention to my health. Thanks again both.
  3. Cheers IanH I had an MRI a couple of years ago but the results were inconclusive. No bits of cartilidge floating about or anything suspect. They did think it looked like there was scar tissue showing on the big tendon that runs out the top of the kneecap though (if that makes any sense). They also said the clunking was a result of the kneecap not running straight? When the axe connected, my leg was bent underneath me so they think the tendon may have been damaged then too. Make any sense?
  4. Cheers for the link, will watch later.
  5. Forget the name of the blue dye I was using - will dig it out and post later. Bought it in a one litre bottle same time as I bought the chemical. 60ml of it in a 16 litre knapsack for spot spraying was plenty, just don't get it on your shirt!!
  6. I've seen a couple of Dowlings Stoves before - they always look a bit err different, but seem to work really well. Good to see an innovative UK company too local business and all that.
  7. "Stephen Blair telling it like it is since Dec 2008!" Good advice as ever. It's easy to feel undervalued, always look for the positives in your situation, when they start to become difficult to find - make yourself a new situation. Chin up, good luck and congrats on the baby.
  8. Cheers for offering up your knowledge to us all. About 4 years ago I had a mishap whilst using an axe, the upshot was that I smacked my knee with the sharp end damaging my kneecap pretty badly. After the stitches came out and strapping came off I found i'd lost all the muscle on my thigh - no matter what i've done since I haven't been able to put it back on again. My knee feels constantly tight, and occasionally flares up becoming hot and swollen, clunks like you wouldn't believe too. Whenever i've seen physio they just give me elastic band type exercises that don't sem to help. I have a tendancy to protect it at work because it's weak, guess this probably isn't helping. Any ideas how to get it back in shape?
  9. Of the saws suggested i'd say 372XP too although my opinion's only based on using a mates not owning the saw. Like Combined Tree Services said if there's any way you can stretch to a 390XP do it - I love mine.
  10. I make birch oil/tar myself on a small scale for fixing & finishing woodcraft bits. What's he planning to do with the oil once it's made?
  11. Husky LS (low smoke) and Bio (forget which one) chain oil for me. Have a mate who's running the last of his stash of strawberry flavoured 2 stroke left over from his trials bike days in his saws at the mo' - has to be smelled to be believed!
  12. I'd be the first to admit that I paid over the odds - but I really wanted something with history etc.
  13. Cheers for that Tommer, am planning on taking it fairly easy. I'd wanted a disco commercial or similar, but for the kind of money the Ranger cost I couldn't find a decent one with history etc. We'll see how it goes.
  14. Have just taken out a policy with Trust Insurance today thanks to this thread. Way cheaper than anybody else, no worries about vehicle mods, and nice blokes too. Cheers for the recommendation.
  15. Couldn't afford to be without 4x4 any longer so went for it. Just driven the 90 miles home and am well pleased! Will see how it get's on with the rough stuff tomorrow.
  16. Don't know sorry. Good to see another Highlander on here though. Hopefully someone better informed will be along with some info for you shortly.
  17. I often use an axe in partnership with a saw - snedding, small stuff etc. Having the time to employ axe techniques and the like is a perk of my job. It'd be great to see a modern publication featuring axe use, it definately has it's place still. Keep us up to date on what happens. Good luck with it.
  18. Kepp mine on a cord round my neck - getting whistle envy now though (oooerrr!) have to get a bigger louder one! One 'o these maybe.... http://safetycentral.com/stormwhistle.html
  19. Blimey - Clinic Ace 360g/l in my local agri supply is £33 for 5l - must stock up before the price goes up!
  20. Lads and Lassies, Have been to see examples of most of the vehicles suggested in the "which cheap 4x4" thread I started, all of which have been rubbish for the most part - mainly because of the fact they've all been cheap. You get what you pay for and all that.... So, i've upped my budget and turned up the following: 1999 V reg Ford Ranger Mk1 Double Cab with 90k miles. Garage owned since new, full service history (serviced every 6k miles), brilliant condition cosmetically. It's £2600 + VAT. The price is non negotiable but includes alloys with snow tyres on, steelies with knobblies on, a monster strobe light set up, 12 months tax & MOT and a fresh service. It had a new clutch 1k miles ago too. I know the garage owner and he's straight up & down. Went in to see if he knew of anything for sale locally, he ummed and erred and then said "well it wasn't for sale but I could sell you my truck if you like". Forestry Commission used to use them.... anyone on here had/have one? What d'ya think? Ta.
