  1. if your unsure, get yourself to a comp or a trade show and ask some1 to show you first. idealy a 11mm rope, the prussik loop needs to be about 6ft ish (i said ish rupe!) long, and itl be a good idea if your just playin about to have a second line installed next to the fl line, or some other means of fool-proof getting down method!
  2. you wont do! the isa are notoriously unhelpful for an organisation who are supposed to care!! try the online shop, or try somewhere like sherriltree.com or treesource. maybe even honeybros at a long shot? or just ring the chapter office, and speak to the very unhelpful people on the other end. i tried the course and test last year, its nothing to write home about!
  3. the only prob i get is the lockjack unit being too close to the harness for ascending. some peeps put a bit of cord or a sling between the harness and LJ to give a gap. a cheaper method is to get a LJ twin. this is cheaper then a LJsport, and then you still have to get the cord at more expense. ie LJ twin 170ish. LJ sport 190ish + cord@£££
  4. i do use the same one, but as its not to hand i cant tell wots written on it!! its got the sheave between the pulleys, and i use the blaze with no probs (cus im still waitin for the poison ivy, HINT!!!!)
  5. years ago, where my dad works, they used to have a reguler income of "yts" workers. one lad fell for every trick every time! whilst renovatin a trailer, my dad and collegues thought it amussing to send the lad to the fitters for a 30 ish half-inch holes! half n hour later, he came back......"have you got a bag to put them in?" he was sent away with a bag! half n hour later, he came back......"have you got an axe to cut them with?" he was sent away with an axe! this went on for most of the day, backwards n forwards....... another time was the old stripped paint joke, he came back and said "theyve only got checkered, youl have to move the squares across!"
  6. hhhmmmmmm, methinks gettin hands-on will help, other then that, id suggest pesterin someone local, like a dealer, or a cutter?
  7. assuming its a "regular"(?) bar and chain, then you can just maintain it in the same way. a pic or two might be usefull? most nptc trainers will do a basic mainenance course (not cs30), but itl be enough to get you sorted?
  8. Hi peeps! as part of my teching course, i need to do a "micro-teach" Its basically a 30ish minute lesson that i have to deliver to a class. im planning to base mine on chainsaw ppe, ie-why, when, what types etc... i need a few gruesome pics of chainsaw related accidents, does any one know where to get any? they need to be downloadable onto a powerpoint presentation, although i could probably manage with a colour printout cheers peeps!
  9. afag's are available in the sub-forum, hse legislation, go to the top of this page

    391 & 362

so u mean a minor periodical update?? jeez! and i thought I was the anorak!!
  11. HAHA!!!!!!!!! ive got a HHHUUUGGGEEE list!!! we once had a young lad who mysteriously got promoted to supervisor, such was his relationship with the manager. one day, he wouldnt let a couple of guys take the spare van to the shop for a drink. so mid afternoon, he decided to dissapear up the road with the blower, clearin up behind us, whilst chattin on the fone. bear in mind only two climbers on site, me and him when he came back, i played dead up the tree! apparently his face was a real picture! i couldnt see cus i was danglin upside down 'unconcious'
  12. D'OH!!!!!!!! try a saw! ok, il be serious then! chainsaw, pref ms260 or 357xp size, 15" ish bar. ppe as per afag. fuel and oil, fellin lever maintenance tools, such as files + guides, combi-spanner small screwdriver rags/paper towels old paintbrush (1") ps - this list is not exhaustive!! your course instructor should have most bits that you dont, or be able to advise on what to get n where. have fun!
  13. if youv had a couple of years out, your head should be in the right place for learning. just have a look at the courses, see what the lecturers say at an open day. you should have diff lecturers anyway cuz its diff courses. i was there when the arb course was part of the hort course. i dont know whos moved to where.
  14. i would have the nc, (if they still do it!) the nc is the same as the first year nd, so if you get on ok, you can switch to the second year nd later. yeah the gamekeepers were always the trouble makers!! if you stick grounding with your mate, you might get a few nptcs if your lucky after a few years. with a college course youl get more out in less time. i was at riseholme a few yearsback.
  15. id say get yourself over to riseholme college and look at a couple of courses there, like the nc or the nd. its not a bad place, theres a couple of great lecturers there. it comes under the university of lincoln website.
  16. i would be inclined to say the 39 is a basic course, which shows more safety, starting, cutting procedures than full-on takedowns. both the 40/41 are the advanced courses, but are both just as relevant as each other. id say always have all of the tickets, but at the very least use the supervision rule, ie a person ticketed to 38/39 can do advanced operations whilst under supervision from a suitable person with a 40/41.

    391 & 362

jeez guys!! the 036, 360,361 are the same saws! just with periodical minor updates just as the rest of the range! the 361 is bein discontinued, and is bein replaced wiv the 362, the main diff is the 2-mix 2stroke engine, the actual performance is very minimaly different, if not at all. but yes, i would quite happily reccomend a 36 to anyone as a reguler saw, bein a user for yonks!! The same applies to the 390/391, exept this saw is more of a hobby/loggin saw. just dont go for the largest reccommended bar either. id suggest a shorter 16" bar, as you will notice a considerable increase in power, assuming the chain is absolutly pucker sharp.
  18. id go for a decent 2st oil, such as the stihl, husky, or oregon, even the aspen sounds good but neve tried it! dont skimp on either cus itl give u probs!
  19. ive only heard that the newer 4-mix engines prefer the newer 2stroke mixing oil, simply cus of the construction of the engines and the materials used.
  20. i dont think there is a specified limit, there is however, a failable item in a driving test known as "not making sufficient progress" this basically means dont drive slow, or impede the progress of others, but methinks its open to interpretation
  21. i believe there is an exemption for certain peeps, but never us!! i remember a while back, tractors could take 2 or 3 trailed implements, and some toff put the stoppers on it!
  22. treesource honey bros treeworker.co.uk landmark trading.co.uk
  23. the n.c and the first year n.d is basically the same. its a very practical course, and if done proper you should easily be able to sail the nptc 30,31,38,39. admitidly ive neva landed a job based on my n.c or n.d, as cheap employers only care about the basics to cover themselves. personnaly i think the n.c and the n.d are good, as youl learnt what you need to know the first time the easy way. and yes id quite happily reccommend them to anyone interested in making the effort.
