  1. Yep.. we have had eucalyptus ash and sycamore so far
  2. Yes,, I`m playing a game with my daughter (15) who thinks my obsession with wood is very sad, where she has to identify the species of wood before it goes on the fire .. god shes good
  3. Steve are you related to the robot in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
  4. Ditto... you will always be looking out of the corner of your eye thinking I can lift more than him (not that thats important of course )
  5. Snap .. if for any reason I miss a call (which is not very often) I phone back and grovel for forgiveness for not answering immediately.
  6. As I open my fifth beer and begin to type after a very hard day..... NO I DONT EQUATE SIZE WITH ANYTHING. I merely belief that whatever business you run or own you should do it in a professional manner and answering the phone is the very basics so if you cant get that right forget it.
  7. Each type of business is different with differing expectations from the customer. An answering machine is acceptable for a tree surgeon but not for high volume log sales. Most customers would simply move on.
  8. I have never actually managed to do it under false pretence because they never answer and yes answering the phone is a sign of a professional business.
  9. Selling the freehold and leasing back is normally the death throes
  10. If you dont grow and move with the market you stagnate and die ... WOOLWORTHS
  11. And unprofessional... I have literally never had another log supplier answer the phone when I have rung to compare prices A tree surgeon said to me recently (a member on here) that not many people are doing firewood as a fully fledged business like I am (he worded it a little more complimentary but modesty forbids )
  12. I have just been reading another thread about gardeners making ends meet in winter and some people suggest doing logs to tide them over. I see or hope that my firewood business will be able to stand on its own as a very profitable business. I know that many people will say that it depends on your expectations of income but to be a proper business it has got to continue to grow. How does everyone else view their firewood business .. bit of money on the side or a stand alone business???
  13. No, but at times I have actually been further. I have never charged for a delivery yet ( with the exception of single Barrow Bags ) but with the price of diesel that may have to change.
  14. So do you think that the ones still supplying are working for peanuts or have the others got their gearing wrong?
  15. Hi Steve.. how are things looking for completing the work on the Firewood site so we can view and edit details?
  16. Its not that bad Jon it wasnt a work vehicle hes just a bit of a poser and likes to think hes in the country set
  17. Sorry I dont have any but if anyone has any suspicions I could ask for more info.
  18. The worrying thing about the posts on this thread so far is that we all seem to be starry eyed newbies full of optimism .... have all the wise old battle scarred wildebeests shown sense and moved on to greener pastures
  19. Hi all... a friend who is a tree surgeon had his Land Rover Defender 90 TD5 stolen from Millford Derby Saturday night to Sunday afternoon. Just in case anyone hears of anything.
  20. Please dont tell me that you have been in the petrol business Tom following our last conversation about coincidences
