  1. I have just had a telephone call……”Welcome to the PPI Helpline – according to our records you have not received your compensation payment for miss-sold Payment Protection Insurance”………As I have never had such insurance I put the phone down, - No doubt the message would have gone on to say “ For more information press the # key on your phone”…, and you would be connected to one of those premium lines which run up huge bills. This is clearly aimed at taking advantage of the vulnerable folk who may be pursuing a genuine claim. Please be aware!! I have informed our local police and on Monday will be contacting Trading Standards and the local Press.
  2. As you have the name of the boots you might try the makers website, they will probably have a section on care for their products, or maybe email the customers services dept.
  3. I didn't see this link posted by another member (if has been - appologies) - some really wonderful work. Competition Results
  4. Dave, that was a very thoughtful and considerate question. Thank you. I would agree with the other contributors that any risk to road users is minimal. The real 'killer' on the road for motorcyclists in particular is the build up of diesel oil at junctions, bus-stops and the like.
  5. Sadly the problem is widespread, not just farm and agri-premisis, but even on allotments and gardens - thanks for the timely reminder, and I hope everything is sorted out for you soon. p.s. - Its always worth marking stuff with post-codes.
  6. Hi Sterio and Windfall, Thanks for your responses, I love the 'new poem' a-a
  7. Hi, I am a new member, but an old hand. I just thought the firewood folk would like this: The Firewood Rhyme - Anon Logs to Burn, Logs to burn, Logs to burn, Logs to save the coal a turn, Here's a word to make you wise, When you hear the woodman's cries. Never heed his usual tale, That he has good logs for sale, But read these lines and really learn, The proper kind of logs to burn. Oak logs will warm you well, If they're old and dry. Larch logs of pine will smell, But the sparks will fly. Beech logs for Christmas time, Yew logs heat well. "Scotch" logs it is a crime, For anyone to sell. Birch logs will burn too fast, Chestnut scarce at all. Hawthorn logs are good to last, If you cut them in the fall. Holly logs will burn like wax, You should burn them green, Elm logs like smouldering flax, No flame to be seen. Pear logs and apple logs, They will scent your room, Cherry logs across the dogs, Smell like flowers in bloom But ash logs, all smooth and grey, Burn them green or old; Buy up all that come your way, They're worth their weight in gold.
  8. Sorry Agg, I wasn't advocating Anvil Secateurs, although for some jobs they are much better than bypass types. Like everyone in the Universe I have Felco, but wanted to draw attention to a good quality product from an very well established make.
  9. Just seen the posts on secateurs - Do you know the brand Loewe from Germany? I have a pair of their anvil secateurs, which are very robust and typical, excellent German quality - web - Original LÖWE - Original Löwe
  10. I'm feeling quite chuffed! - at a car-boot the other week I bought a Felco 600 folding pruning saw, brand new in original packing £8.00 !! this was from a tool dealer who had many other brand-name goods at very low prices.
