  1. You can get a really lush fir burger in kings cross Sydney
  2. Probably the best most apt statement I have read on this forum in a long time, RobArb, did you go to the same school as me and David Cardin ? I think that's how you spell his name, you know, grass hopper, blind man with white eyes who kicked the b Jesus out of every one, in fact that was the teacher grass hopper was the student, with a bold head, when they crossed his path, and told it as it is, a bit like you, and me:lol: Confucius say only fool climb trees:001_tt2: Just remembered his name was Cane
  3. Its a really old heavy saw by today's standards , personally I would leave well alone, the picture looks better than it really is, we last used them about 15 ish years ago. But if you are really interested then buy it but its not worth more than £50
  4. Over the last say 9 years I have planted between 500 to a 1000 new trees each year, about 10% are standards up to root balled extra heavy's , the rest being whips , so it helps me feel good, especially with regard to tree losses which will always be inevitable when working with trees which grow within the urban environment .
  5. THAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT:thumbup: They can all stand by there beds then .
  6. Being outspoken and telling it how it is. word of mouth for me and cyberspace
  7. Something if its an organization or company, or someone if its a person or relative of a deceased person
  8. Its just a way of halting something dead in its tracks, especially so as there is no PI in place.
  9. I think knowing what I do now, if it was my forum I'd make sure that that very clever, well put together and short Caveat appeared at the top of the" Home " page, for all to observe before entering into the pages of the website , in small text but legible:thumbup1:
  10. So this does mean that should the proverbial ever hit the fan , the author of the post could/would be liable and made accountable !! Excellent caveat Steve, that will certainly resolve any issues on your behalf , I assume,by law, you would have to divulge any information regarding the original author and any mitigating evidence including additional input/posts .
  11. Well said:thumbup1: I also worry about the rapid rate of development and expansion of this Forum - Does the site have adequate Professional Indemnity Insurance to permit its members to submit posts relating to Tree Hazard Assessment ? or does the site assume all its members to be Qualified to the level of a professional tree inspector and hold the appropriate insurances ? even making tree management recommendations can be incriminating if something untoward were to happen. Please don't all jump on me and Tony I know you are only full of goodness so its not a dig at your intentions at all . I am more thinking about the influx of none tree related individuals / Home owners who have had a site visit from a tree surgeon and who then may prefer to seek and then take advice from this Forum because they prefer what some one is advising on here as apposed to what some one on the ground is advising, who probably does have insurance and who may be better Qualified .
  12. I'm guessing its your proposal/specifications that they are not happy with, do they comply with BS3998:2010 Recommendations ? That's a start.
  13. Also check the original order "Errors"4.7 Errors in the 1st Schedule of the TPO or on the map come to light after the TPO has been confirmed, though the period allowed for the making of objections and representations before confirmation should enssure that errors are kept to a minimum. When an error comes to light the LPA should consider using their variation or revocation powers to put it right. Hope this helps. If you would like more advice" TPOs a Guide to the Law and Good Practice" is a must or let me know what you have done wrong and i will look it up for you.
  14. Well said, i think the same:thumbup1: Times are really hard at the mo.
  15. I was recently told that there are a large backlog of appeals at the moment , that's why they are taking so long, I was also told, reliably, that LPA's are now reluctant to TPO trees because of funding cut backs . If you think you have a case now is the time to appeal .
  16. I very much take on board what you are saying, yes i am insured to produce Subsidence Risk Assessments , I did when i first obtained insurance to carry out these type of surveys and reports have to provide evidence to my insurance company including my qualifications and experience in this field together with a number of examples of the reports and type of work i am involved with. Regarding my own expansion into this area (soil) its just evolved over time, the other draw has been from 5837 and the cross over point where different surveys can join. Now i know i am referencing from 5837:2005 but i suppose its your own interpretation of the document-"1.4(d) the approximate location of trees on land adjacent to the development site that might influence the site or might be important as part of the local landscape character." "Influence" being the key word, above or below ground. The water uptake of a given sp should be taken into account as well as shade pattern, future growth and its suitability in general as a retained tree. Where clay soils are known to be present a cross reference to NHBC Chap 4.2 will provide the equation to calculate the extent to which the zone of influence can be measured. Assumptions on the PI of a soil can be made using field tests and GS sheets (As an indication only) definitive results can only be obtained by laboratory analysis. In a way I just collect samples and data , its all fairly straightforward to me, if that's the way my investigations take me. I know this ref is from the land survey but if it's not being raised in other reports/surveys it should be. I don't go in both guns firing but i do read all other reports first if available to see if anything has been missed.
  17. PH is just 1 consideration more to do with plant & tree selection with regard to the new planting scheme for a development. Within my geographical area we are mostly on clay soils so I am more interested in assessing & providing if appropriate an indication of plasticity index of a soil or I can even provide a measurement value of the category of soil taken from a site. The definitive soil type of a site can only be identified by laboratory analysis and to provide this I send the samples off. British Geological Survey sheets provide additional information regarding the underlying strata of a site. Samples are taken from a range of locations around the build area and at a range of depths using spade and a small auger, a simple tactile test also helps. Details of the location and depth from where the samples were taken are also included within my reports. I also carry out Subsidence Risk Assessments.
  18. A good example of an issue which I raised within one of my reports was this -Background - I was the last to be asked to produce 5837 report it had been overlooked and it was needed urgently, the proposal was to create a new wing for a private care home (new 3 storey wing), all the other reports were in and the drawings had been completed by the commissioned architects and surveyors. There was supposedly an issue with a tpo'd tree regarding protection which I dealt with without any problems. One thing which no one had taken into account was the presence of a large poplar tree located off site and some distance away from the proposal. I cross referenced all relevant info 5837 guidance nhbc guidance including gs maps and carried out some soil tests and gave the info regarding foundation type to protect the tpo'd tree and recommended that they re-instruct the structural engineer/surveyor to review my findings because of the given soil type which I had identified at that site and most importantly the precise extent that the poplar tree could influence soil change at that location. As a direct result of my detailed input the whole foundation design for that proposal was changed considerably much to the annoyance of the developer but the client was extremely pleased with my findings and to the extent of detail that I had produced. The architect also was extremely pleased with my findings.
  19. What about Jimmy then Steve?
  20. You are correct, my comments were more towards those reports which I produce for the more domestic type of application ie single development or a garden plot or extension. There is no harm in commenting on a potential issue if you can quantify your findings or if your own knowledge extends a little further. When I left school I gained additional qualifications at college for the construction industry up to that of a building control officer and so the blend of knowledge which I now possess including my current arb qualifications works very well for me.
  21. Hi Steve, any chance you can change mine to Jim or has that one gone.
  22. Sorry i did not mean fully blocked, looking at the photo the bottom roller looks like its got unchipped mulch compacted around the bottom roller, i'v had this b4 and once it was all cleaned out it was fine. The cause of it was blunt blades and a wide anvil gap. When it was chipping was the chip nice and small/clean? if it was stringy you should check it out. Have you had it long?
  23. Your bottom roller is blocked, you need to clear it , take of the bottom roller guard and empty out the mulch. I'd also change the blades while you are at it and check the anvil gap.
  24. The tree will be fine, it was just a flash fire, the loss was habitat and the life that live'd in it.
  25. The dead wood will just sit there, its one of the only trees i will trust to rope of dead wood. I love it, its as old as time:thumbup1:
