    Wooden Ring

Thank you:001_smile: Time will tell with these. The way I first started making rings the grain went across the ring and they were prone to breaking if not careful. I've now come up with a method so the grain follows the ring around so they are a lot stronger (touch wood) than the first type.

I'll have to check but I'm almost sure I saw some of that where I get my wood hama. What would be a nice contrast for the inner ring? I make them out of two bits of wood, an inner and an outer ring. Tom's was made of Cherry for the inner and Rio Rosewood for the outer.

Cheers Tom, it was a pleasure making it for you. Glad it's a nice as you hoped and that it fits you ok too(always a slight worry that!). On to yours now Steve, it'll be a wee while because I'm working away for the rest of the week:thumbup1:
  4. Happy birthday to you, mashed potatoes and stew....... Congratulations Steve and everyone who make it such a wicked site (that's alllll of you)
  5. Cheers Hadders:001_smile: Yes I've seen him too and that gave me the idea of having a go. He's was a cool chap, would never paint just one tree, always two or three because 'every trees got to have a friend', bless him! I'm away working from tomorrow for the rest of week and will be mega busy so if I don't answer then that's why - I will get back to you, be good to catch up. Thanks everyone:thumbup1: I might do an Arbtalk one somehow and stick it in the Christmas raffle, should just get it done by then haha
  6. Cheers everyone:thumbup: It was good fun doing it but you should have seen the mess I made. Did it with a 2 inch house brush, a 1 inch house brush. a knife and a fan brush - had to keep washing them out and beating the devil out if them to dry them - got a multi coloured log pile now!!
  7. Yesterday is history. Tommorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present.
  8. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!
  9. ........and it's got many a tree in it....
  10. I once had some people using my pics on ebay. I told ebay and they ban them on copyright grounds.
  11. Is that a trout just below the bottom right of the reedmace head?
  12. Cool, something going on near my old home of Woodhall Spa. Will pop to see my parents and nip there to have a look round too.
  13. I think you might be right about climbing them by myself! Shame really because they're huge trees and have been good to practise in, but it would be sods law if i didn't take heed of what's been said and something went amiss! Best go on the hunt for somemore.
  14. Na neither would I. There are quite a few I stay well clear of just incase. Always by myself so I do take extra care, it's just that most of the tops have some damage or other Will this damage eventually end up killing the trees?
  15. Really! Blimmy, who would have thought they could have done that, some of the branches are massive! The wood in the damaged parts looks like it's dead, but then further up it looks fine and there are loads of good leaves on them. Would all this make them weak? Just wondering because I spend a lot of time up them practising branch walking, swinging from one place to another and just trying to get round them as quickly as possible.
  16. I've found a load of nice big beech trees that I go and climb as often as possible. Whilst up them I've noticed this in them all Why are they like this then? Still got loads of leaves and look healthy!?
  17. haha it may not be the same for yours as others have said. Nearly everything on a pajero has to be difficult and different, well, the one i've got has, it's a right crock!!
  18. I've juat done all the brakes on a pajero. All the sliders were totally seized up but managed to get them out in the end. Whilst looking on the net I saw that you should'nt use copper grease to grease them up, it'll make them seize again in no time. It said that you shoud use silicone grease fro these parts they'll be right for years. Maybe worth whipping them out again before they do re-seize and slap some on.
  19. Cheers for the information Andy, it looks very interesting. I've always done some sort of further education, either for work reasons or for pleasure, as I enjoy learning. I nearly have working with trees as a job, and when I'm not working, it's a hobby. I get a buzz learning what I can about trees and anything to do with them, so this would be a great mix of both.
  20. Is it something you do from home?
  21. Not been at it very long so only got a few pics. In this one I was 60,000ft up, just on the edge of space......really really - now there's action for ya
  22. Cheers Dean:001_smile: I wondered what it was he was doing. I used some bee's wax on the smooth bits on mine, you can't really tell in the pics but it did give it a bit of a shine.
