  1. Ahha, I just found the coolant sender unit on the side of the thermostat area, unplugged it and the gauge read nothing. Started it up and fan still came on. Must be the sender unit hey? Will get another a put it on and see tomorrow. Sound right yeah?
  2. No oil in water or vica versa, thermostate's opening ok, just gauge is Reading hi even when not running. When running it still says it's hi when it's not? Strange hey! Can't find where the temp switch is to unplug it? Think it's garage time tomorrow. Ta for help though fellas
  3. Brill, I'll have a go at all that then and see how it goes. Still think it's a bit odd the gauges in the red still when it's not running a is real cold - it's covered in snow at the mo! Thanks for the advice chaps
  4. Super duper I'll have a dabble at that. How did you break it? Hammer?
  5. Hmm sounds like it maybe that then, I might try sticking a new one in before I take it to a garage. It there a test I could do on it?
  6. Did it make it run funny too dude? Even if I don't start it up, just turn the ignition on second click the temp goes right up - even though it's stone cold - is that the same?
  7. After a wee while hot air comes into the van so does that say it's opened? As it thinks it's overheating when it's not would that make the turbo run funny as a safegard?
  8. Hiya chaps - happy new year. Just wondered if anyone know what might be amiss. Just gone out to my vito van and when I started it the temp gauge went straight to the red, even though it's cold. Checked the water and it's fine. Took it for a little spin and it seems to have lost power too. The fan is also on all the time now. It was fine and dandy yesterday, any ideas??

Just got one called Whatsapp, real good - you can texts, pics and sound recordings to anyone with an iPhone for free. Well worth having.
  10. I'm not sure if all 990's have it, later ones certainly do, but if you look on the underside of the fuel injector pump, there could/should be a small stem with a T-bar. This is your cold start assist. You unscrew it as far as it will turn (about 2~3 turns) to start in cold weather. It works by temporarily retarding the injection timing to get the fuel into the cylinder when the air is compressed to its highest pressure, and therefore at its hottest. Once the engine is started you screw the stem back in. If you don't, the engine will run rough because of the miss-timing. In severe cold, early models had an 'ether plug' in the inlet manifold, you can unscrew this, squirt on a little ether based starting fluid (Start Pilot, Easy-Start, Aerosett, etc. etc.) screw it back in and start-up. Later models had the more user friendly CAV 'Thermo-Start' plug in the manifold, with a corresponding 'HEAT' position on the ignition switch. This uses a simple glow-plug system, that allows a small amount of diesel fuel to seep onto the plug, where it vapourises to assist starting. Naturaly, the fuel is only released onto the plug when it's heating-up. These plugs do fail occasionaly so need checking and replacing if faulty. Pre-heat warm-up time is 20 to 40 seconds, so you would turn the key to 'HEAT' and hold it there for the required amount of time, then turn the key to 'START'. Just found this on the net
  11. Ta for that, will turn comp on and have a look - using my phone at the mo. Can see the one steve did though?

Copilot is a brill satnav, only £25 and just as good as my tomtom that got nicked, if not better. Add xnxx to your home screen if you like a bit porn in your van whilst having lunch - well, that's that a mate told me anyway.....
  15. That ms200t help please was put up for me, helped loads with the on off switch. Also type ms200t exploded diagram into google and you find the one for the whole lot. Took me an evening to sort the one I was using but got there in the end.
  16. I think it's good that they've made doing a pole rescue part of 38 now. I only passed mine a couple of weeks ago and didn't have to do one, only had to say how to do it. Then was with Bob on Friday when he hurt his shoulder and if he hadn't of been very cool and got himself down, and if Dave hadn't have been there too, then it would have been upto me. Would have got it done for sure but it would have been my first ever time on spikes and would have better if I'd done it before.
  17. popped into brandon today but they said that they don't deal for stihl anymore....boo
  18. Hmmm I've used them a fair bit to hire building equiptment and they've always been good to me - will pop in tomorrow and see what they say......
  19. Good old Wales - you may know some Geraint's then.....I'm a Geraint - you don't find many of us in sunny Sheffield....thou knows..... I'm glad I ask the question you know - nearly had myself convinced that I would get the £495 one from here but will keep on looking around now. The money I save I can spend on the other bit'n'bobs I need which'll be a great help. Ta muchly chaps Ger:-)
  20. Where did you get one for £400? Yeah want to get one before Vat goes up. Think I need one asap really!
  21. That's a good price!! I've been quoted £495 inc VAT in Sheffield and £488 inc VAT from Lincolnshire! I would phone the dealers on here but ther're all miles away and you have to go and collect it now don't you!?
  22. Hiya I was just wondering how much you chaps get your ms200t's for? There seems to be a vast difference in prices on the net so I just thought I'd check with you lot first? Ta muchly for your help Ger
  23. That's fantastic, thanks for your time and your help. What an ace site and what sound people you are. Geraint
  24. Hiya I think this is my first post - pity it's to do with something that's been a right old pain in the bot bot!!......Had my first day of 39 trainig today, the chap who runs it won't provide top handle saws - he doesnt like them - so I had to borrow the chaps who I've just stared working for saw. All was going well and then when another student was using it the trigger started sticking. the bloke who was doing the training said the spring must have come off on the trigger on the top of the handle because it wasn't springing back. he took the side of the handle off and it was the spring so it was put back on and all was good. Then the spade end thing on the wire that goes to the springy cut off switch thing snapped so that was the end of the saw for the day. Spent more time trying to mend it than we did up trees. Got a new spade end on the way home and fitted that so thought all was good again but now I've put it back together when you squeeze in both triggers and put the choke onto full they wont in lock in?????? I've had it to bits loads this evening, downloaded the exploded diagram and I can't for the life of me work out whats wrong!! there doesn't seem to be any bits missing from within the handle! Please if anyones got any ideas could you let me know? What a mad day hey!!!
