  1. You haven't given any SWL requirements or price limits. You could start off by looking at Young's chandlers (Lewmar 72mm Synchro Fiddle Block) Dee
  2. About 100% of my house does - but maybe that's not much help .... is it? .... no? ...... no
  3. No - I don't think all members of the public are fools when it comes to using a chainsaw. I also don't think that all professional chainsaw users are beyond reproach either. I think that after the skills have been learned and practised - you still have to choose when and how to use them. It is at THIS point that the true professionals come to the fore. Judgement.
  4. Looking forward to it.
  5. Sorry, I thought my previous thread might have been interpreted that way. Well done, Greg.
  6. What did it have a 'softish landing' on?
  7. Oh I see. I was just going to sing him the first few bars of the song!
  8. Without wanting to know about your experience in tree work, I would suggest you recall what you've worked with in the past and in the local area. Assess if these set-ups were good or bad - and then plan a gradual build up of your own rigging gear as you find that each piece is worth having. Dee
  9. My Imori rope arrived today from Fletcher Stewart. A big thanks to the sponsor ARBJOBS who kindly donated the prize. And thanks to Steve and his countless staff who organised it all.
  10. It's an exercising question, Oddbird. I agree with the above - and I also think that some of the rules that are laid down for us to follow are not assembled by people who actually do the job.
  11. There you go, Mick.

I've eventually got Tanner on Arbdogs. Of course I've now had to change my avatar so that I don't seem repetitive! And in doing so - I being SO predictable! Ah well.

  12. My dog 'Tanner'.
  13. As the above comments say - you have to be happy with it. Another thing you could fiddle with would be to turn your distel round on the rope - so that the tails of the hitch are on the outside and away from the krab. Dee

    Grillon

Hi Dave, I use a Petzl oval in the other end of the Grillon rope. The plastic cap over the sewn eye should 'give' enough to allow a normal sized krab to be forced through it. Dee
  15. What about using, instead of a timber-hitch, some belay device (fig 8) that secures your SRT line at the anchor point until a ground belay is required. When needed, the safety lock-off is untied, and the climber is lowered on the 'descender' device.
  16. Thank God for that, Roni! I was starting to develop a 'small rope' complex!
  17. Gone - but obviously not forgotten. You do him proud, boys. Dee
  18. Hi Turkeyoak, some of the cambium savers are fitted with a small ring and a bigger one. This is probably the simplest configuration. One of mine is a Petzl Treesbee - it has a large ring on one end and a maillon on the other. This allows for more adaptation eg. fitting a pulley to the maillon so that friction is decreased. Have you had a chance to try any out?
  19. But I still can't seem to separate the 'good' bits of the Bible from the bits that condone slavery, murdering offspring etc. I, in my ignorance, presumed Biblical teachings had to be followed, wholesale, or not at all. I'm now led to believe that we can pick and choose. Dee
  20. I'm not sure if I would want to know their whereabouts!
  21. So am I, Matthew (on account of me being quite thick). But I've found that this set-up does have its uses. Throwline over the chosen crotch - static pulled up and over - knot on the static - pulley and climbing line connected to knot - the pulley hoisted to chosen crotch - climber connects to DRT system. And remember, with a static rope and equipment you still have the option of climbing SRT to chosen crotch and installing cambium saver etc.
  22. I agree, although one situation I can think of is when you set up an adjustable TIP ie. static rope placed over a crotch - pulley (with climbing line) hoisted into the tree with static line and then static tied off. In an emergency, the climber (and climbing line) may be lowered on static line.
  23. 150m ! or should that be " lowered by groundsman in a different county"
  24. I use 11mm LSK aswell. I think it's great to climb on but too stiff to have great 'handling'. But then, I don't use it for its handling characteristics.
  25. It's a novel idea in terms of illustration - but I don't quite understand the actual site. Does it seek to educate Lego-loving children in the proper ways of eg. owning a slave? Dee
