Was reading through something you wrote other day and thought, people like him are the salt of the earth, Not sure that words can put into context what your family are going through. Hope that the little un makes it, the hospital staff do know how to turn these situs around and know what to do, my mouth went dry when read this message.mates daughter was born early, caught mrsa, heart probs alllsorts, shes fantastic now. 5. I have just had a climber work for me today, and hes using the phatstrop, When you are using a handheld pruning saw, and the branch gets caught in wind or what ever you wa to put the saw away quickly, with the phat strop you just drop it, A silky does not make it boing back up, hes used it a couple of times doing work for me, and I have to say I will be getting one at the first opportunity. Im sold by it, I wouldnt like to hang hammers etc off it, but its perfect for silkies. Sooo much easier than struggling to put your saw away whilst handholding branches ready to throw clear of any obstacles below, you could quite easy make a strop out of pull cord etc, but the longer it is imo the more chance of it getting snagged. Its length flex and ease of use is a very well thought out idea imho. just thought would let you all know. Thanks Jaime
  6. i got a 064av new pot piston, runs 36 bar, just dont hammer the throttle, use conscientiously, will be fine, swap to small bar when you can i.e 25"
  7. Monkey'd that picture has made me speechless, cant think of the right words to describe how that pic would make me feel were it my pop, Nice touch, to what has turned into a very proud to be british thread. :ridinghorse::ridinghorse:
  8. To those that have recognised the true value in being British, hats off to you. Anything that installs pride in this country and its heritage in my eyes is to be given the respect it deserves. Just seeing any of our armed forces, in any public event or scenario, makes me proud to know that they, and other organisations; the Royals, are what makes this country and its true inhabitants the real country it is, and will long continue to be regardless of creed or colour. "Proud of Britain"
  9. I have 2 carritools fitted to mine, despise the things, if youre in a tight crown they just seem to clip onto branches that are normally to thick to break free of, and I have to reposition to get free, pita. For saw connection I use metal ring at the back in red But I attach a rock climbing type dooberry thing that has a small non lockable crab eachend, and about 4-5" of webbing between them, 1 end connects to my saw the other to a locked crab as far forward towards my green side strop point as poss, and stays attached to the saw, just make sure that you dont buy a clip thats to long, mines cool as at no point will it come into contact with the chaimn etc as its not long enough, (go outdoors £12) Iirc from reading the instructions a bit to in depth, the lower paler green rings are not advised that you can hang from them at a certain degrees below point of anchorage, they are far more comfortable though than the upper rings, as the uppers pinch my more than an inch gut terribly lol. paler ones do work well when snatching off the main stem too.
  10. The legal duty for trees to be inspected, in a round about way is under occupiers liabilty act 57 & 84, Where land owners have a duty of care to ensure that any persons entering their land whether invited or not doesnt come to any 'foreseeable harm, I.E falling branches hits someone, what was the fault in that case paul, would it have been picked up under a "professional" inspection, was she able to prove any record of assessment history. thanks jaime It was the case that if they didnt have the relevant expertise to do a sufficient assessment and didnt seek that expertise then they could be deemed negligent, How will this case law change things, be interesting to know the case name/reference
  11. We'll never lose that mentality in society, Why do we go the trade fair? To buy cheaper gear... AWG is just looking for things to get our teeth into really. The daily grind, With the intention of producing things to enable contractors to operate more effectively, With the topics addressed, But its a circle, Company managers may want to implement the relevant stuff but do not have the working knowledge of it or the staff dont play ball, So if the employees get chance to air their views then I can give that feed back to AWG, And maybe do something constructive
  12. The people, As in the public, I agree, Is it possible that as we stand in gardens talking about what we do, do we know the key pertinent facts about the relevant legislation etc that 'could' sway the way they perceive our company practices, to make them pay that bit extra because they know we are more clued up than that other bloke, And perhaps install a bit more confidence and value for money, What are the legalities with customers employing non-complient companies should anything go wrong, Can they find themselves being questioned about why they didnt do a more thorough check, they do in other industries, I know that they dont know whats what, But if we highlight that we reduce the likelihood of accidents by this that and that then maybe they begin to see and learn, and as a result of that appreciate the true nature and value in using your company, The right company!! What do you think to that way of thinking,
  13. slap ma girdle, Im not sure what Is needed, Im putting the question out there, Whats going on whether domestic, small commercial, even in the councils, We All have different agendas but are we all experiencing the same problems and frustrations, lets highlight these issues get some awareness of them to the AA From what I could gather the AA are looking to help us to raise our game, If some of you want to join the scheme great, good for you, If you want to run a smart company to the standards of the big boys, but dont join i personally have no opinion on that, Im not fussed who joins what or when, Just trying to raise my game by utilising the work that the AA are doing for the industry and get home to my kids in one piece Simples!!
  14. Hama just out of curiosity is your company loler sheet the same as the AA stuff, Is it better, Believe me, if yours is better they will pay attention to it, Email it over to me ill give it to the group to work on, We dont get paid for the work, but we are all very keen to increase safety, productivity, awareness etc and enable us to stand proud as an industry, I dont think we'll achieve this over the next 5 years, But generations down the line may 10-15yrs, There was a chap who had twins off here, ive just had little boy, maybe they will reap the rewards, Hey who knows, Got to change something though else we will never stand proud throughout, I personally believe that if we are to improve the working conditions that we all endure daily, that by "sharing" info, documents, experiences of the workability of the systems used, maybe some out right form of standards will be achieved that we can all adopt to raise our game, i do recorded risk assessment and method statement and it does focus us, Anyway thanks for your comments lads, much appreciated
  15. James, I dont see why you couldnt come along, there is still scope for more input, people like yourself are ideal as you have in place the relevant stuff, Its not a kind of anyone can just turn up as and when, Its a voluntary thing and there will be AA staff there that we discuss things that the AA can do to raise the industry standards, one thing that i asked the other contractors at the meeting last week was, does doing the right thing and running it by the book focus the minds of employees once they get their head around it, and also do you have more pride in your company? Treemeup If you want the AAC to be sold to you contact AA teccie, Something was mentioned at the meeting of the newer simplified assessment process or criteria etc for smaller companies, not sure how big your firm is, but i was slightly intrigued, I remember reading in one of the arb news mags about a two man company that went arb approved, He did say he focused a lot more and was a lot more effective in business, But to be honest thats another thread, i have no working knowledge of the scheme to pass comment, Hama I will ask the question to them Can/does the loler/puwer have to carried out in the way it does, can it be simplified, some of you in here will know the answer to that question and may give guidance, A generic terms and conditions sheet would be of use, When I asked they said they would consider getting the legal team to ensure that whats produced is of sound content, and If I remember rightly some of the AAC were going to donate theres to enable a broader covering of all relevant issues within it, Could be a good place to start,
  16. Just to add, im not aaac, and have no intention of attaining it, its about the improvement of our working lives as my main interest
  17. Paul fill your boots, The more interaction between the AA and the people in here the better in my opinion, The way im looking at this, is not about obtaining a government standard, but perhaps producing stuff that will change the way we think as arborists, managers, sole traders, There are ways to do everything,Sacking people, employing people, Recording ppe issuance, At the end of the day how many of us really do know the significant points of bits of legislation that maybe we can either regurgitate to our employees or vice versa, on matters when we feel that our income is being jeapordised, or employees feel that their gaffer isnt complying with even the basic health and safety issues, How much value do we really put on returning home each day, maybe seeing family, loved ones, even the dog, We do dangerous work, I personally dont care what the rogue traders do, Thats their business, How beneficial would it be to go into qoutes armed with legally compliant info, to which you conform to, These issues have got to be highlighted and sold to customers, I think we need to educate ourselves, to enable us to educate our staff and even employers, which in turn will enable us to educate the public of what can be achieved with good tree care, At the end of the day, The compensation culture is here to stay, We either adopt the practices to make a change or we sit on our laptops moaning and groaning about it, until our firm is hauled into the courts, I think that the saying nowadays is that ignorance is no excuse, So if the AA are offering this service im going to try and get the mostout of it, Its f.o.c!!!
  18. Hello just an intro, I was asked to attend the AA arborist/contractors working group this week, to give some input as a sector of the arb industry,The group has been lacking in people on the tools over the last 12months, And the proportion of contractors at the meeting quadrupled, My current situation is im a sole trading arborist, Operating with two full time staff, (my Dad being one of them) At the meeting me and other non approved contractors and a couple of approved, were asked to give some input as to what was needed by the smaller organisations with the intention of improving the standards that our industry operates at, and to improve safety etc. I openly admit that being a sole trader im not doing the same level of health and safety recording as some of the larger companies are doing, Its logged upstairs, and as im onsite with every job whats the point, What became very apparent is the ease at which this recording can be done, and the benefits of it, This is only the start of improving the standards and in turn the public perception of our industry, I will be trying to increase my h & s monitoring within my company, And im aware that it will require a little extra time to start with, I came out of the meeting determined to make changes to my company and perhaps focus my business direction, My biggest problem is identifying the issues that arise on a daily basis, and retaining the thought till i get home to enable me to do something constructive about it, I reckoned that one of the best places to start would be to share this with arbtalk, Ive read many a thread in here over the last three years and we all have issues, (related to trees) There is another meeting coming up soon, and im trying to maintain some momentum with this as the AA were very keen to get the input of people working on domestic work and smaller scaled contracts as such, I have been asked to be the chairman of the AWG (arborists working group) So...What would make our working lives easier, What issues need addressing, What can i propose they start to look at to raise the standards etc I need your help with this lads and lasses thanks Jaime Bray
  19. I have to admit, Ive always wanted to get to that kind of material, but never had the time to produce it, Credit where credits due on that note, Nice gesture AA, Good to know its there for those that want to operate in a safe manner but have the paper back-up for when the proverbial happens, Which unfortunately seems to be becoming a bit to regular imo, Im off to staples to get me a folder and some binder seperators!!! Cheap thrills the first arb van folder, Going to start a thread "get your safety folders out for the lads" haha

  25. arent the banks looking to have non cheque system by 2012, customer the other day commented on it, and said that she doesnt fancy carrying around all that cash, and doesnt like credit cards, it may present few problems in next three years to those of us trying to stay a little more relaxed about modern day business and the gadgets,
