  1. apparently the police were busy dealing with a protest that needed special care and attention, apperntly some people were complaing that the batter on their fish didnt meet regulations, and therefore the force was stretched. Human rights im afraid. stretching the country to the point of demise.lol
  2. I imagine that under section ??? of the ???? there will be a line that supports this case, but with the system being the way it is there will equally be a line that suports the lad. apparently the lad had been abusive for a good ten minutes prior to filming commencing, so at some point i beleive that I would have stood up, and kindly asked the lad to assist me in my returning to my family, by removing himself from his seat, and had he declined to offer me tha assistance id have asked the other passengers would they him removing from the train, then id have asked all paying passengers to turn off their mobilephones, before getting written confirmation of what appears to be support for the alleged bully, then id have got all passenges to put their coats over the cctv cameras and then proceeded to do what appears to have happened, i.e. that the lad had delayed the train for a considerble amount of time prior to filming, and had exhausted the patience of the paying public, therefore frustrating the public into a position of annoyance that had the potential to escalate. Upon being given permision by the train inspector for my offer of assistance id have put on silk gloves so as to not antagonise any skin allergy he had, then used the ladies silk scarf to detain him on the train with his hands behind his back, where by i and the young children present;to ease the young mans discomfort, would escort/ lift him from the train with his rucksack attached to him ,and laid him down on some foam that i would have had shipped in. Thereby ensuring that in this remote town peace and tranquility could be reinstated in a timely manner and allow good citizens to continue with their lives.
  3. When i detained a gentleman for damaging my car, the police upon their arrival said, you do realise you could have used reasonable force to detain him, the reason they said this was because they knew that because I only saw him go around the other side of the car and didnt see him actually scratch the car, which he did, they knew I wouldnt get justice, and was there way of saying; imho, you should have shoe'd him pal, because hes going to walk scot free, and he did.
  4. Have you seen the metallic green one they do, soo sexy, i was going to get one but decided to keep the Vauxhall brava, with all the weld shes had, she weighs the same as your two put together, so i got it uprated and now she rocks, pmsl
  5. One thing to possibly consider is if the tree formed part of a line of trees or other adjacent vegetation in his ownership, then the law of 'joint severance ownership' may cause him to have to accept the tree is his until HE can prove its not. Its something like that, but this law has proved well worth it to some people. The report may have requested that for a complete assessment to be made then the ivy would need to be removed, check to see if there were any time constraints for any further recomendations or actions, the report author may be well covered with caveats however this may have put the onus on to the report recipient. Always interesting, however prepare to move house as the neighbour and you are likely to fall out lol
  6. Congrats and welcome to Arb dads army
  7. Altohugh if we prune when the tree is active (full leaf) it may help to seal up any of the initial cells around the cambial zone, especially if you look at the principles of pruning prunus relating to timing. Before you jump on it, "initial" not the complete wound!!!! being blase
  8. Jesus, shotgun, I hope not, a good dig 4-1 any member of the public would be proud. My mates car got keyed, would be ten years ago, we detained the man purely by standing in front of him, when the police arrived and upon quickly realising that we didnt have a leg to stand on as we only saw him walk around the other side of the car and not actually do the scratching they said "you do realise you could have used reasonable force to detain him" My mate was seething but i wasnt having them knock him about outsied my house, Mrs at home with the kids and that during the day at the time, nooooooo no!!!
  9. Just bought one of these, It aint a bad little saw very light and you do not know its on your harness,Stihl recommend the 16" bar, it does cut well with it, it isnt a 260 but it has impressed me logging down cherry and ash, and good on the conny 2! Bought it as a chipper saw and for hedges but will not let it be used on the ground now. Anybody else using this saw?
  10. Yeah, what did you do, I love to hear the gory bits, and all the better if someone writes a good bit of humour in to the tale. How many digs did you get in??
  11. lol you know you cant wait to get out there grafting with your offspring, watching them learn life skills and how to carry out and solve problems and complete tasks. Then boasting in here, "my nipper arb through and through like a duck to water," hehe
  12. hi treequipe thanks for that, its more tips that have been learnt through experience, a point of reference for people to refer to to get tips on what to be aware of the real biggies, probably aimed at newbies to the industry, What would you teach your kids if they were getting into arb to keep them safe and one step ahead of the game as such?
  13. Thanks for the feedback, tHe poll is indicating that saturday sunday is prefered, if you do not wish to contribute to the thread could as many as possible mark the poll so as the AA can get a better and broader picture of prefered days, Saturday sunday, No loss of a days holiday if bosses wont pay for cpd, Lose day with family, return to work the monday tired and worn out, or enthused depending how much you drink, Friday sunday, Lose days holiday or if your lucky boss pays your wages for the day, day to get over the hangover (sunday) breaks the week up, These are just a few of my thoughts on the day selection, but I do feel that its important to get it right and ensure that as many people attend to get full benefit from such an event. Thoughts please lords and ladies
  14. What would be your top 20-25 tips for tree workers? Things like; Watch out for london plane in the summer. Watch out for Ash with innotus hispidus. Just because the chainsaw has stopped it doesnt mean that branches will not be falling still. Always put a stopper not in the end of your rope. One handed chainsaw use can often be minimised by better positioning. Be wary of Laurel chippings and the chemicals released. Arsenic? Never under estimate what the public will do when within the vicinity of a work site.
  15. David Lonsdale was talking briefly about this at barchams, IIRC, he was saying that when pruning near the trunk, it was better to leave a stub than carry out correct pruning cuts, as the die back will be localised to the stub and 'may' not cause decay to 'flow'- occur in the main trunk. Although, a question i ask of compliance with the new BS3998;2010.If we are to continue to sell trees as constituents and major contributors to the urban environment and if we begin to carryout pruning work that enables the tree to become a complete sealed unit, (callused over pruning wounds) then what will be the likely implication on urban ecology, if the habitats created by the work we do ( sometimes incorrectly) begins to be less so, will we be reducing the habitats that urban ecology is still very much struggling to provide in some of the harsher inner city environments?
  16. Pete, Do you have any pics of this, I was trying to remember how to do it the other day, I find it a lot better than carting kit up the tree, but for the life of me couldnt remember how to do it? Thanks Jaime
  17. Dear All,we will be holding an AWG (Arborists Working Group) meeting tommorrow. One of the topics that we will be looking to do some work on, with the intention of producing a set system for industry adoption is this topic; for the benefit of new arborists, and new staff, and to try and create a code for our industry. We will be using the valuable information enclosed within this thread as a good starting point for the task, please feel free to add to the current contents to try and assist us if you would please. Regards Jaime Bray
  18. we could get the owners of arbtalk to fund and sponsor it hehe
  19. so on my qoutes if i write due to the manner in which i can recycle green virgin waste, all rubbish is to be taken away free of charge for my use. and the presence of woodchipping material/equipment attached is for my ease of recycling for my own usage, needs to be tested in court lol, any takers?
  20. This is the problem, vosa staff do not know then for certain, I asked him about 4x4 he said yep still applies, I hope you are right though.
  21. May I ask, Is this research for a college assignment or for a business you have recently become involved in that you are looking to move forward?
  22. Im not sure, im hoping though as its quality! if your vehicles gvw and the weight of the trailer combined exceed 3500kg you need a ol. its nothing to do with laden -unladen, transit at 3500kg trailer can weigh nil kg, landy gvw 3050, trailer can weigh 450kg. 1kg over you need ol. train weight etc is neither nor anymore. I wonder how many of us wil be driving round with nearly empty fuel tanks in the chipper, top us as required, and get lots of really healthy condensation build up in the tank.
  23. I do already, how i set up, ones a tools and log wagon, the other chip and chipper tow, now ill just jiggle it about.
  24. If ever there was a silver lining, my vauxhall brava 4x4 pickup, is one of the lightest in its class. at 2650gvw, and with my chipper at circa 800kg, im just under 3500, and therefore do not need a ol, as my transit can be solely a chip truck. Website helpfindmea.co.uk gives good info on cars of varying makes, to find alternatives to ol licensing, id rather insure and run a new vehicle than go down the ol route, especially for people with no access to a ol yard, Also worth looking at the volkswagon caddy 4motion, had a drive in one the other day, cracking off road, and we were in a right muddy field.
