  1. I cant remember what was checked as it stopped about 6 months ago. I would of started with the obvious and worked through new plug clean air filter check spark and then onto strip carb which looked spotless. I can remember not having the right carb kit so may need to order one. What surprised me was how it was fine for years then instant problem not a gradual loss of power. Sounds like it could be the rubber fuel line.
  2. I notice the prices on Auto trader are generally 15% cheaper than the dreamers and chancers on ebay.
  3. The good one in the picture was probably sold over a year ago and they just keep pumping out what ever turns up.
  4. I have stripped the carb and found no problems. I did a search on here and some one had exactly the same problem back in January. I am thinking along the lines of a new saw as the 39 was used when I got it and its done 5 years 10 hours a week so had my monies worth.
  5. Did you get to the bottom of this problem mine has just started doing the same thing.
  6. Thanks for that. I have never seen that site before looks good for lots of other stuff like the annoying fuel caps that wear out. Feel an order coming on.
  7. I did a similar thing about 15 years ago when clean Landcruisers were hard to find. Mint in the photos so my brother and me two flights £30 ea did not need return as would be driving back on ferry. Got there it had a respray and stuffed interior tired old wreck. Plane back was £200 ea. I now buy close to home where ever possible and add the £400 + delivery and buy a better vehicle.
  8. NOOOOOOOO 372 395 461 660 or ps-7910
  9. I never drove the latest dmax but from what people have said the new one is nicer to drive and the Rodeo ( now about 2 years old ) only tows 3000kg I think the old Rodeo was a good truck and does not have a dpf fitted so one less problem. I think peteB or chris shepperd on here had one and ran huge miles without problem.
  10. I am even more confused now Best saw I ever had was a small husky which punched well above its weight. I find I can cut straighter with husky for some reason. so now its 372 395 461 or 660
  11. If you carry on its lots of hard work for some money. If you sell it standing its some money for no work with some logs for your own fire. When we did logs I found the owners and middle men had the best deal.
  12. Thats 4 votes for the 461. I am surprised I thought every one would say go 660 as they are simpler to repair. I suppose they are fair bit heavier unless you are cutting 3ft butts all the time a bit overkill.
  13. I think they are still the best truck if you need to tow 3 tonnes or more. If you dont then I would be tempted to spring a few more quid and get the Hilux. All modern diesels are packed with technology to keep the emissions down and they all have their moments. By the time you buy they should have this little glitch sorted. If you want trouble buy a d4 in six months I have had front diff fail, turbo and rear handbrake shoes burn out. removable tow bar worn out in 6 months and endless tyres at £180 ea. Fantastic to drive best to borrow one rather than own.
  14. I have a working 260 but my ms 38 and ms390 have just packed up after 5 years of hard use. Both my bigger saws had 20" bars on but I always felt I was missing a bigger saw when doing logs. I have packed up logs but still do a bit for my own wood burner and have a fair bit to ring that is over 2ft. I am thinking ms660 or ms461 I am vat registered so can get it back on a new saw. Or I could talk nicely to spud and see if he can breath some life back in to the two old girls. What do people think
  15. I seem to of bent the metal contact inside my ms390 and now the on off choke switch does not function properly. Thinking it may be easier to ask spud to work his magic.
  16. agreed. You need the truck up together it will save your neck if you hit some unexpected tram lines or cross wind. a trailer tail end heavy is a recipe for disaster if you get a snake on. I actually find the big sprinters tow better than loose old 4x4 s
  17. Good to hear if they find a way of keeping the diesel in the top of the engine I may change my d4 for one. My discovery is superb for towing 3500kg with 245bhp and weighing nearly 3000kg but shockingly unreliable you cant own one.
  18. The d max already has plenty of power for towing already thats not the problem. Its stopping the stuff and keeping it safely on the road with only two wheels driving and controlling. Yes they have a problem with fuel dilution caused by the pdf trying to regenerate. Not all of them have the problem if you have you will also find the fuel consumption has gone from late 30's to low 20's. I hope they get a proper solution with this as the Rodeo was a good vehicle and was on the way to restoring their name after the disaster 3.0 litre trooper.
  19. I have a large green mech and tried all the above and give up and just blast it on the floor and scoop up with bobcat. The green mech seems to have a strong blast which is a good thing especially when things get wet and gooey
  20. I think you can load your defender up and still put 3500kg behind and stay under the gross train of around 6000kg. The double cab you can put 1000kg in the boot but then only 2500kg on the hook. I dont fancy the idea of empty boot and 3500kg pushing me sideways down a hill in the wet in 2 wheel drive. I personally dont feel right with 3500kg behind any of the Landrovers 2500 is enough unless its a d3 or d4 . The Amazon copes easily with 3500kg a decent lorry is a much better idea.
  21. 46 which I thought was really old till I got here then realised 26-46 goes in a blink. If you are young dont waste it death feels like a life time away when your young but its not if you see what I mean
  22. I did some reasearch a few months back to cover about 100ftx20 so need a few sheets. I prefer plastic coated ind sheets. Came to the conclusion that I would be going to exeter ( cladco ) or Birmingham to get the right price. Not had the time yet may be worth a look on ebay as you dont need a huge amount wont be worth travelling far to save a few quid.
  23. True but the beauty of the double cabs is flexibility. Nice to drive on a run dont leak water and the heater works.. You can carry passengers and tools. They can tow 3500kg if needed although I found the ride poor with leaf springs on the Navarra as they bounce up and down with a trailer on. If u want a rugged work horse that moves max weight across rough ground without o licence the defender is still the vehicle to have especially if you only work local. The coil springs are better for towing and the option of low box without axles locked is great for pulling a full trailer away on a hill or crawling for hours in heavy traffic takes the strain off the clutch.
  24. raise it half way then unplug the controller make sure no one leans under it. If it stops dropping then the controller is shorted if it still drops the controller is ok. Strange it stays when fully tipped sounds like must be pressure relief valve as there is less weight on the ram when fully tipped.
  25. Was it defo set fire or possibly an electrical fault. Was the battery still connected. I am looking for a decent telehandler and will keep it insured mainly for fear of rodent/ bird nests electrical failure causing fire damage.
