  1. Definitely on defenders and old discos but d3 onwards its lap of gods. No matter how serviced or driven hard makes no difference it's all luck. Mine was fully serviced and mint at 60 k never towed and used to go to golf courses. 10k miles with me and it just fell to bits and I am talking over 10 k in repairs.
  2. All wrong so far the net on left is 50x40. Net on right is 60 x 42 couple more guesses and I will reveal
  3. The bag on the left weighs 4kg what do you think the bag on the right weighs. What would you say looks best value for money if they were the same price ?
  4. Talk to Bristol batteries their own Avon brand is made by Varta. We have tried most of the brands over the years. Varta were ok but for some reason Avon have been even better on standby generators. Yuasa were a disaster on the trickle chargers but I have a feeling they like being charged hard on a vehicle if we increased the charge rate they survived better. I have just changed the Bosch battery on our bobcat and that did 14 years but they don't make them like they used to.
  5. If anyone wants to swap some dumpy bags of nice ash and beech slit to 10" for kindling that works for us.
  6. Jon my wife rejects most of the stuff that has a knot to keep the quality of our bags high. I can sell a dumpy bag of scruffy kindling for £25 I bet there is always 4 down the yard if anyone wants some.
  7. That's 3.6 cubic metres must be difficult to get them to fit. I used to get at least 114 in our 2 cu metre tipper. The other thing we found was cheap bags that stretch could cost you 20% more wood.
  8. The lower c of g seems to help when you have something heavy on especially if it has any height to it
  9. I made a firewood deck but never bothered to motorise it just used long hookeroons worked well. Load deck with forklift and 3-4 tonnes saves your back big time.
  10. Possibly as it comes out fairly neat on the shoot and gets untidy as it hits the bulk bag. But we can offer what people ask for. At times we have to pay £60 a tonne for decent wood and there is at least half a tonne in a bulk bag when its green. so the wood has cost £30 before you start. There are no bargains to be had these days unless someone is exploited margins are just too tight.
  11. Our nets are 40x50 and 124 bags used to fit snugly in our 2 cu metre tipper. A 0.72 dumpy bag of off cuts makes 35-40 bags of kindling. I would say I cubic metre of solid timber will make 80-90 bags. Jon your pm box is full it would take about an hour to fill a 1 cu metre dumpy bag. If people want to stuff their own bags we can do a metre cube dumpy from £72
  12. My best customers are people who used to make kindling. Unless you concentrate on making it in a biggish way there is no money in it. You may gain an extra 40 p profit on a bag but use a huge amount of time and equipment doing it. We have tried using everything to make kindling but nothing works as well or looks as good as 3x2 and skirting board. Neat tight packed bags fly off the shelf random packed bags with bark and knots are a struggle to sell and pack,on a pallet for delivery. Our kindlet can do 70 bags an hour. But working on your own with smallish pieces of timber and a few jams you will be lucky to make 40 bags of neat kindling per hour. Take of the time to cut the timber up and I think we make about 25 bags an hour per person. So two people working the machine will make 50 bags an hour.
  13. Is it just me or does that 1500kg crane on eBay have more like 3-4 tonne on it. I have picked up fresh sticks of pine that size that weigh 700 kg
  14. Funny thing is Mcds actually have a good rate of pay for flipping burgers and a good career path if you want to go on to management. Same as shelf stacking in telcos if you progress and manage a large tesco store you will be on 100 k plus with bonus. Beats being a skilled man stood in the rain 8 hours a day 18 k a year
  15. I am no lawn expert but I do know if I don't get time to get the sisis out end of September it stays in the shed till next year. The other big no no is scarifying in spring it tears the side shoots of the grass and leaves it bare yet everyone sees the moss and gets out their.
  16. Back up to nearly 2000 bags and increasing daily if anyone needs a top up. I was killing time at a petrol station yesterday before a funeral. I was on the a30 at bagshot in Surrey and they had bags a touch smaller than ours for £7.50 a bag:w00t: I have to admit I was not getting trampled in the rush but just shows they must sell them or they would not bother taking up the space.
  17. Lots of people seem to have full in boxs so it prompts them to have a look and free up some space.
  18. I went into the superstore yesterday first time in 6 months. 30 check outs 4 were open 3 people deep took half an hour to get through they just don't learn do they.
  19. I am a soft southerner anything below +6 is a big freeze 😊
  20. I was right looks like we could be in a freeze till March now so good for your log sales don't forget to hold up 3 nets of kindling for £12

    trailers

I traded my 16 ft ifor Williams 3500 kg platform for the equivalent Brian James. If people want I can do a review when I get a minute. I have had the bj for about 18 months. Both good trailers for different reasons.
  22. I see the Santander but it was paying 3 % on max 2k and you have to pay a fee. A few hoops to jump through and you have to pay tax on the interest.
  23. Think I have had 5 or 6 cheques for about £25 a time may be a couple for £50 about on par with an isa but you never know when u could get a big one. never with an isa.
  24. I would agree and it's only 1984 so not the dark ages. I would like to point out we were the 16 year old apprentices not the people dishing it out. I handed my notice in the week I finished my time.
