  1. Have a quiet word with the boss and explain if it does not stop you will start. Copy the letter changing a few details send everytime you see their van parked. Send a copy to them aswell. Check the planning permissions. Ask their blokes at the roach coach if they have any interesting jobs coming up, they will need to brag. Buy them a coffee ask them what they have been up to. I am not mature enough to take the moral high ground, I would fight fire with fire.
  2. Have a mk3 good robust truck bit slow. Mk 4 is nicer to drive loads more poke not as tough. both will handle a tonne if you are thinking of putting 2 tonnes of chip on dont bother buy a 130 defender. With basic serviceing you get in and flick the key starts first time and things rarely go wrong unlike some of the incredibly poor defenders we have had. The heater works and u dont get a gallon of water over u everytime u turn a corner.
  3. Boulters tippers tadley 2-3k dep on spec
  4. I would agree with this half a fire lighter is 1p trade price. A log is 40p. If your not in let it go out.
  5. when its burning well before going to bed put half the contents of the ash pan on top of the fire.
  6. with mud like that on a slope forget road tyres and ats you need a good mud terrain like the bfg. If you can hang on 3 weeks you may get through and save up for next winter. BfG are expensive but wear well and dont fall apart
  7. some rust a hand full of left over nuts and bolts a ballot paper and a betting slip Solihulls finest
  8. A percentage of new steel is now recycled but they struggle to get silicons out. If you buy a galv trailer check the plating is not peeling off or discoloured. Also check the chassis is not twisted as they heat them so hard now to make the galv stick.
  9. If you need someone to remove the timber I should have a 10 tonne crane trailer ready in the next month. I will assume you want to keep the timber unless I hear other wise.
  10. I did my 4 year apprenticeship with locomotors building specialist vehicles. We would not have built a vehicle like that on that chassis. If you look at the first picture who in their right mind would put that sort of weight on a 2mm box section 150mm x 75mm . That kit would have been put on something like a 7 tonne renault chassis or by todays standard a mit canter.
  11. I am shocked that people who expressed an interest did not go through with it. When we signed up we were short on logs and did not really need more business but I felt since I had gained a great deal from arbtalk and should give something back. If anyone is teetering on the edge get it done from acorns mighty oaks grow and the more you support it the better it will get. I am sure steve spends a huge amount of time and resources keeping the site running get your pennies out.
  12. Balsa is a hard wood but its very light and soft
  13. I think we could learn from europeans. When their governments get greedy and plunge the country into debt they stand up to them. This prevents the man in the street from becoming so much of a soft target. When fuel hit a pound a litre the country was virtually shut down in about 2 years its gone up nearly 50% yet nothing. I think alot of the backbone has retired or emigrated.
  14. We get 30 mpg on a run from our td5 disco van heavily loaded not hanging about. Its a lot lower than all the rest and all great cars but 4x4 in our job is ideal for snow or towing.
  15. I dont have one but am building a trailer with 10 tonne crane will carry 15 tonne of timber. I have found it easier out of season to hire a fastrack for about 250-350 a week
  16. I would def leave body on you could get a new body supplied and fitted for about 2k. If u put body on ebay it would make £500-£1000 .
  17. Not being able to get on to arbtalk is bad enough but having trouble with your end as well
  18. Makes you wonder how many of those vouchers actually get handed out. Still there is some kama the women handing them out may have a good use for them soon as well.
  19. I lost two saws in space of a month or so around the time tesco had a problem. One was a very old 051 so understandable but a nice husky went soon after. The only two saws I have blown in 20 years. Using shell since not had a problem.
  20. I have been through this. If you disconnect the maf I think you put a fault code on the ecu. With the maf disconnected the ecu defaults to an average setting which may at time not be good for mpg. Not sure about td5 but alot of engines too many fault codes and they go in to limp home mode. I bought a cheap maf off ebay and it just had a resistor in so dont go that route.
  21. 235 70 16 on our toyota tipper bfg Mt about a month ago. £480 inc vat balance and fitting for 4 in andover. Unstoppable even with only two wheel drive engaged rarely need 4wd.
  22. I would wait till bfg Mt back in stock alot of money but out live most tyres 2/1 . Dont go too wide as they will float on the mud and get stuck unless you are trying to make it look like a corsa then you need neons under the cills and blacked out lights wide tyres and wheel spacers:001_rolleyes:
  23. If anyone had an accident using one how could you explain you felt it was safe. I would imagine they are safer and more efficent when new. More likely to grab when worn. Not used one dont fancy using one.
  24. Just a quick up date got the bits from dealer. Muffler studs gasket and nuts all in inc vat £29. Thought that was ok for genuine
  25. Good thing about defender is you can get logs out in the snow when they cant deliver kero or coal.
