  1. If you split it now should be ok. It goes very light when dried out.
  2. I am giving these 1.5 cu bags a go this year. Will be interested to see if we have any mould problems and how many seasons they last. About £5 ea with vat
  3. I have found the ibc tanks ideal if you remove the plastic tank. Put a sheet over the top logs seem to dry better this way than any other.
  4. This lots mostly oak so need to get on with it.
  5. I tried the billet idea and found that the most time consuming. To save time we put in vented 1.5 cu bags with tipping loops on bottom. Or we fill polytunnel with concrete floor for scooping up later with bobcat. We ring and split as soon as possible. Stuff 12" and under 1m lengths ideal for putting through processor. Big stuff leave in 1o ft long easier to dice up at yard:thumbup1:
  6. I am unbiased as have both lr and jap. I tow a 3.5 tonne trailer and have not managed to snap a half shaft in twenty years. The towing cap through boggy fields is very low possibly 750kg from memory. The half shafts are the last resort before you start breaking crown wheels etc. The defenders are the most robust on the market but they could have been improved over the years the fact that they still sell in numbers proves how poor the jap stuff has become. The Aussys and yanks pay alot less for jap stuff than us and fuel alot cheaper. who can afford a £54,000 Landcruiser when a Defender is £22,000.
  7. Getting rid of dmf on commercial vehicles is normally a good idea. If the engine was ok in the transit and has plenty of torque which it has, cant see why it would be a problem in a defender. I think alot of problems are caused when its not the owner driver. If you are not paying the bills u dont need to be sympathetic to the machine.
  8. I would have thought 25 - 30 a tonne plus delivery its not worth as much as cord as there is more work in it and it has some softwood.
  9. How can they possibly have problems with a design they have been trying to screw together for the last 4 million years. Apart from the engine the rest has hardly changed since 1956. Does the latest version still have the transit engine ?.
  10. If its cut and split I would measure up the trailer and sell by the loose cubic metre. They all ways know how much they will get irrespective of moisture content and you wont be fighting to get the wood out as wet as possible.
  11. I dont know about new shoguns but the old ones were only 2.8 tonne tow
  12. I think a large saw with 25 inch bar may be quieter than a medium size saw screaming for longer What do we think
  13. If the 362 is full of electronics it could be set up to stop you thrashing it till its up to temp. I think the carbs adjust for temp and altitude so could be usefull if you get a job up a mountain.
  14. I am finding cord wood is not much easier than arb waste because its getting bigger and in short supply. I just paid £2000 out plus now some wages and fuel. Wont sell a stick of it till December. Oct Nov will be a waste of time while the £75 a transit load boys have some left. I will get a nice warm feeling in Dec Jan
  15. arctic trailers seem to get 4 stacks of 3metre but 8 wheelers take 3 stakes of 2.4 if that makes sense
  16. Beans then for breakfast dinner and tea:biggrin: The cheap meters are crude but good enough for logs if the batteries are fresh.
  17. If I have to pull 3.5 tonnes from one end of the uk to the other without effort there is only one vehicle we use Landcruiser Amazon.
  18. The wood was pre seasoned and he was afraid you were going to take his premium hardwood away.
  19. If you have the access and storage space I would get 8 wheeler in with 17 tonnes on of ash and oak. I would avoid beech as it will go punky in a year. You will have firewood for years and its not going to get any cheaper. £52 a tonne delivered.
  20. I agree with this. We bought a new d22 navara in 2002 because it was rated for 3 tonne towing . I got rid very soon as it was terrible with any trailer on loaded or empty. Most pick ups weigh about 1700kg and have leaf springs. The larger 4x4 weigh 2300kg have coil springs on the back and are a bit more forgiving when towing.
  21. The beech and syc should be ok, I thought that seasoned as it went up the conveyor
