  1. All our log sales include 5% which we pay to the vat man. Our pub customers can claim it back so gives us the edge sometimes. We dont advertise the vat as it stops private people trying to knock it off the bill.
  2. I have full no claims and have always found NFu very good but they have just put all my vehicles from £400 ea to over £600
  3. I have been looking on there if you can get the vat back better to buy new from jonsie. I bet it makes at least 550
  4. No offence was taken. We all have to make a margin. I dont know why retailers get so hung up on % margin. Fast moving non returning items like this must be ideal for them in the winter.
  5. That truck has to be a nightmare to get round roundabouts let alone corners. we use the same engines in our gensets and the fuel cost is horredous on red let alone white.
  6. Our customers retail them at between £3-£5 . We have sold them with our log deliveries for two years now 3 for £10 and they fly out very rarely do they not sell on a delivery. We dont sell them on the phone we hold them up and show the customer on delivery and give them the choice.
  7. Does he come from Manchester called ged
  8. Ditto you need to double the cost to cover the hour or so it takes to fight them into a net. £5 a bag minimum wholesale or retail.
  9. 240hp its running on 10 stud axles. The fans on front I think are for the intercooler. I think the standard 2400 sits a foot higher with intercooler under cab.
  10. Mix it with beech and sycamore and charge a premium when there is a foot of snow on the ground.
  11. yes we use the orange gripz gloves from arco when using the processor. When a wet log slips out your hand it hits the floor when wearing these gloves you recover it and sprain your wrists. The extra grip also gives you more confidence to pick up larger cord.
  12. So far yes but need to try it properly loaded in anger yet. Have loaded 1/2 tonne butts while the bed is empty. I would imagine you need to treat with respect until its half loaded now the front 20 ft is missing. Should be able to load 2 tonne stuff then. The air suspension is excellent and it rides a treat when empty.
  13. But your logs are top quality and dry so give out twice the heat which is cheaper than the soggy willow she got from the other place.
  14. ouch I dont own one would not trust myself with one and wont be getting one
  15. Just a quick update been too busy to put the trailer to work but been doing some fettling. I have been amazed at the amount of time small jobs can eat into your week. Its been in this week for some more serious brkts on the chassis and two pins about a foot behind the head board. Now have some work for it and cant get a tractor on hire because its harvest season the mog is owned by a friend who is too far away.
  16. And you dont need to talk to a call centre in deli
  17. I remember your post from this time last year and you were spot on almost to the week. I would be interested on your observations as we go on.
  18. Ours is 99%
  19. Has anyone ever sold garden Land and been involved with an option agreement. How did it turn out. Did the developer stitch you up at the 11th hour with a poor value ? . I have looked on line for info but no one ever seems to appraise or complain.
  20. Baz when your wood comes in it will weigh 600kg per loose cut cubic meter. Thats because its full of water. When you cut it up and leave it for 18 months the water evaporates. So 40 bags is right. Before you send next load out cut log in half measure moisture in the middle.
  21. He is 100 miles from us so transport would kill it. I would not bid till you have seen what you are buying. I am sure he will have alot more go and see him. I have viewed alot of skips full of processed logs in other locations and things are often not as described ie bins hold less than they thought, its green not seasoned, The load has a lot of trash in it, the small amount of softwood turns out to be 75% . Eye contact and handshake worth the trip if only down the road.
  22. I dont understand how a cu metre of dry logs with airspace loose loaded can weigh 630kg when a solid cu metre of green timber weighs approx 1000kg. my 2cu metres of dry beech weighs in at 750kg
  23. I enjoy it but am in it for the money or at least to earn a living. Problem is traditionally tree surgeons have supplied the demand with about 15 loads near christmas for beer money. There are not that many people who sell cheap logs, most realise cordwood and cherry has doubled in cost in five years. If it helps I have charged nearer the top price and in five years have always sold out but dont have a huge part of my business invested in logs.
  24. As a rough and ready rule I have room on my trailer for 20 cu metres of timber. Roughly 50% air space so 10 cu metres of solid tmber = 10 tonnes when green. If its part seasoned and weighs 8 tonne all the better I dont want to buy water or pay fuel to take it home.
