  1. I think the question should be is it worth £40 a tonne like ash beech or oak because I am getting offered some really strange cord wood I think 5 years ago it would have been called arb arisings just shows how short supply hard wood is getting.
  2. That bits too long that bits too fat, too dark, too rotten too wet too dry, that bit on th bottom looks ideal, heres a pound sorry about all the mess.
  3. So does red oak look or feel anything like english oak.
  4. International 684 with adaptor on 1000 pto. Engine runs at 1100rpm lasts weeks if not months on a tank.
  5. Good luck with your new venture. If anyone needs kindling in the south of England let me know.
  6. Rodeo is a good truck and well proven now. I am a Hilux fan but would prefer a late Rodeo over a late Hilux if that makes sence. The Rodeo was rated to tow 3 tonne as well.
  7. Yes it probably weighs 2.5 tonne empty. Often they have twin rear wheels and chew the juice. They look a bit chunkier and you can make brum brum noises and pretend your yorkie man.
  8. Watch out for the tax man if you do more than 60 percent for one customer and he provides the tools and materials they wont consider you se. Get plenty of other invoices through the books.
  9. 260 is an old model speak to jonsie his ad is on the right will do best deal. The others sound chinese personally would not touch them with a barge pole.
  10. I knew the american H&S culture had arrived when all the american companies in the uk started moving to China because they dont have any. About seven years ago I had to do a long winded statement for a generator install on a new shopping centre roof. When we arrived on site the roof was covered in pieces of wood with nails sticking up. There was a security man checking people in for H&S and was handing out a piece of paper listing all the hazards. When I asked why they had not picked up the rubbish and disposed of it his reply was not my job, now you know about it we dont need to. While we installed the generator he laid in the sun sunbathing. Now my point is there are a few old hands like me who have 20+ years experience working hard in blazing sun bowing and scrapeing to a whole army of untalented, unskilled, lazy pen pushing idiots like this. I can understand why alot of my old work mates have dropped £4 an hr to deliver tesco food at minimum wage.
  11. My next purchase would be to block hire a holiday camp next to the sea and invite all arbtalkers for a party and barbecue on the beach. ( just remember I aint won yet )
  12. 2cm stacked probably does fill three builders bags but not cu m ones 800x800x800 =0.56 cu metre 900x900x900 =0.73 cu metre 1000x1000x1000 = 1 cu metre Unfortunately to the untrained eye the bags look the same size.
  13. My first purchase would be a very large paper shredder.
  14. 45 bags seems alot but if it was 35% then you will get more volume for your tonne. Was it softwood
  15. If you need something to get 700kg across a field for 200,000 miles get a hilux . If you try and put 1500kg of chip in the back you will snap the chassis if you are going to abuse it it will cost you a packet. The Landrover can be abused its cheap to rebuild and will handle too much weight better but is inclined to fall to bits however you treat it. The Landrover leaks water some of the engines were dreadful and most of the gearboxes and heaters apart from that they are ok. What you have to remember is that is what all vehicles were like in 1953.
  16. I dont think anyone slated him just asked for more info on how it was measured. If someone payed £50 + vat then transport and could not claim the vat back. They could be paying £80 to get 1.6 cu metres of firewood after you have taken cost of processing and delivery it does not leave much if you charge the average of about £80 a loose metre.
  17. while that Stephen Blair is away I am going to catch up on his posts only about another 19,000 tonight and I will beat him.
  18. I can understand your grief problem is what to do about it. The general idea seems to be hang in there and tread water. Things do have a habit of turning full circle. The h&s thing is so out of control I can see it collapsing in the next year or so. The rest of europe is laughing at our army of chubby old fellas walking round with clip boards.
  19. Large businesses have been making life difficult for the small man for years. Just look at supermarkets and corner shops. Unfortunately after thatchers idea of starting lots of small businesses successive governments have not been so supportive. Its alot easier to keep tabs on people if they are paye. One weapon large companies have locked onto is the whole health and safety rubbish complimented with accredition. If you have a whole office full of managers and chiefs you can print of pages of bull and buy the right certificates. A small business needs to pay the mortgage and buy the road tax. I often find large companies onsite with lots of paper work loads of chiefs but no indians so the performance on site is poor. The other tool they make use of is get small contractor to do the work go bust and start next day buy all the kit back for next to nothing. This has been going on for ten years and is getting beyond the joke.
  20. I think there is alot of variables in the thrown idea ie large sticks in a small box. 10" logs in a metre bag settle and lock down well hard to see them swelling 2.5 times but you could be right.
  21. One tonne of wet beech measures 1cu metre of solid wood so if it was cut up how many 1cu metre bulk bags would you get. Weight is irelevant for this but useful when buying cord.
  22. Think the unbraked trailer is so you can carry your maintenance records and tachographs with out being overweight. If I had the operators licence would need the trailer just so I felt like I was getting my monies worth.
