  1. The sides are a type of hardened ply, can't remember the name of it and the rest is alloy and steel. Price wise I think it was around £5.5k + vat. The older one is around 9 years old and has been used and abused and is still standing...just!
  2. Cheers, Southern Vehicle Bodies (used to be truckcom) down near Brighton. They are very good that's our third one off them and they do Connick's down here as well and their trucks always look pretty smart

  4. haha yeah know what you mean. I would estimate that at 3pm tomorrow nearly 90% of tree trucks will be over weight on their way back home!
  5. Not sure on mpg as we have a tank in the yard but wouldn't think it would be more than 25mpg unloaded. The payloads aren't great as they weigh a lot as a chassis cab but then everything fells uprated on these. Payload of one below is around 500kg
  6. Saw this one on eBay very nice but it's the 120bhp version, the 150 would be better nice truck never the less though
  7. IMO the best option for tree work. The large engine pulls like a train and the gearing of them makes towing easy. They are essentially little trucks and not vans as Ian said. We have two of them, one is an 06 and the other is a 63 plate. If you can get the twin wheel n35 150bhp version. Our newer one is also the wide cab version so takes three blokes and kit easier. The only downside I would say is that servicing is dearer than things like transits as you are paying truck rates at the dealer but I wouldn't let that put you off. If I were starting up tomorrow I would search for an isuzu as I don't think they can be beaten

    Read through the assessment schedule as he will ask you questions based on the content. Also your not expected to be an expert climber at this stage but show you can do everything in a safe controlled manner

  13. 11mm in metal you mean? Apart from a bigger breaking strain which is irrevelvant really what's the benefit of the extra money?
  14. I've just replaced my old green rope guide as its over 5 years with a another of the same type. What's the main difference between the old pulley types and the cocoon type?
  15. Theres been loads of threads on here about them, best cambium saver you can buy IME not cheap but over 5 years costs pence per day
  16. Your L200 looks really smart and good quality from the pictures, you must be pleased with it

Without knowing what rope you are using and looking at the swl of each item I would say that the weakest link in the chain would be the rope, taking into account circles go failure etc. The wll on my ISC steel biners is 50kn from memory. On Honey's website they have a lot of the manufactures info on mbs, swl etc so might be a good place to start if you want to really drill down what the system is rated to in optimum conditions. Swing checks are fine for lighter stuff but impact blocks are better for larger loads of course
  18. Do you mean the red swing check pulleys for rigging? If so a tape sling round the tree with a steel karabiner to attach them together is fine. Just don't larks foot the tape sling round the pulley and then the tree as the metal on the pulley combined with the forces of lowering may cause the sling to break. Have I understood you correctly?
  19. One of the reasons I didn't rate our A530 was the angled hopper that angled back towards you if you know what I mean, i.e. it wasn't a fold down hopper like the forst or the 150's. From people who have used both do you think this makes a difference? We did look at changing the hopper to one that folded down but traded it in before hand.
  20. If you see an engineer working locally they will often come and drop a line for you and put it back up for a drink. Obviously not the offical way but the other option is to call Openreach but be prepared to be passed on, put on hold etc
  21. Yep in reality you can't really compare the two as such. The 190 is bigger and heavier than the Jensen and has a bigger capacity which I why I thought the tw150 is a better comparison as opposed to the larger 190. Each to their own, I just wasn't keen on the a530 we had even though I was in no wy comparing it to the previous 190 as I think that would have been unfair on the smaller machine. As well as sharp blades which you point out I think it is worth sharpening the feed rollers as once we had done this it seemed like an improvement. In short the a530 had a lot of he charteristocs of the new forst's (for obvious reasons) bit just lacked that bit extra IME

  24. We had a a530 really didn't rate it had to sned a lot of brash down to get it through became a pain after a while. I suppose it depends one what kind of work you do, lots of take downs and large fells IME the a530 isn't the best. Again also had a 190 at a previous place and it was far better than the Jensen a530. From memory of the 530 I would say that the 530 is more comparable with the timberwolf 150. We now run forst 6 inches and i believe they are superior to the a530. Weight of the machines may be a consideration depending on your set up
  25. Not a desperate site the check but on the official dart charge site there was a box under a sub heading where you could enter the reg and pay for previous crossings. When I did this it came back with nothing. I was going to call them to check but forgot in the end and as nothing came through the post thought I would let sleeping dogs lie!
